   It's a science fiction book taking place in London in a marxist-type future(if I'm remembering corectly?) It's been years sinse I've read that one.

   Great book, wonderful language, and very relevant themes.
   
   I must say I also did enjoy the movie, which is somewhat different from the book. Why skip the last chapter, Madame X, I kinda liked it.

      I liked the original publication, with only 20 chapters, much better. I know that Burgess has said that the final chapter is necessary to make it a "novel" because a novel has to show change, but it didn't show change--20 chapters flowed rationally together and then in between 20 and 21 someone waved a magic wand...I thought it was a cheat, and especially disappointing after the rest of the novel had been so well developed.

      I didn't know about the original publication ... if it's just added on like that, you're absolutely right, one should simply ignore it. I don't personally think that people can change (much), but I still hope they do...
