Do you find it offensive to be referred to as "a gay?" If so, why?

I've been referred to as "a white girl" so I don't see the problem.
The way I see it..."A" is only a vowel, it can do no harm. -
I find it a bit offensive. I'm not going to get upset with people, but I think it's offensive if you say "she/he is a gay" rather than "she/he is gay".
The implication of the definite article is that 'gay' is a thing not a description of a certain aspect of someone's life. Referring to someone as 'a lesbian' doesn't have the same connotations, presumably because the word 'lesbian' has not generally used by intolerant homophobes.
'gay', 'lesbian', 'homosexual' and 'heterosexual' are adjectives and when they are used as nouns it is usually for brevity so you don't have to say "gay man" or "heterosexual woman"...but if you put an 'a' in front of 'gay' it takes on accusatory and derogatory connotations. I imagine it's entirely die to the phrase's historic usage. -
I'm not A Gay...
I'm not 2 gay...
But yanno - uhm.... I really don't care what other's do in their bedrooms or WHO they do it with as long as it's willing and they are happy about it.
It's just - well - NONE of my business.
If someone called me gay - I'd say - well obviously you don't know me very well.
Offended? Nah. -
Well, if you ARE actually gay then what's the problem exactly? It's a shame the word gay has become an offensive term, though one has to admit that some persons who lean more to faggotry than homosexuality don't exactly give a decent image of being gay. I have nothing against gay people myself, I do hate the leather faggots though.
