My wife and third daughter were taken to the hospital last Wednesday, after a near-head-on accident. They got home that night, and our daughter probably won't need surgery - but it's been exciting.

And (Shameless Blog Promotion time), I've been posting about it in Through One Dad's Eye ( smalltowndad.blogspot.com/ ).

We've gotten real help from neighbors, and people we'll probably never see again ( smalltowndad.blogspot.com/2009/02/lots-of-good-folks-around-here.html ).

And, we've been offered help we don't particularly need - or want ( smalltowndad.blogspot.com/2009/02/ambulance-chasers.html ).

I probably won't be very active here at BlogCatalog for a while. I'm helping around the house - which may encourage my wife to have a very speedy recovery.

Now, to make this a discussion:

What sort of accidents have you, your friends, or family been involved in?

What was your experience like?

My father was a fighter pilot and had a crash landing...he suvived to fly again. In his 70s he was in a car that crashed into a lorry...one night in hospital.

I've had near misses...but am still around.

Hope your wife and daughter recover soon, and that was a narrow escape!

I sure hope that get well soon. I was in a 4 wheeler accident one time with my cuz, It was more like an atv,it had a huge basket on the back for hunting
and brining home dear. Anyway we were 9 yrs. old and we both got pinned underneath, while our babysitter was supposed to be watching us,she was up at the house with her boyfriend.
Anyway we got pinned underneath and some how the hot oil came leaking out. It gave us both 3rd degree burns on our back.
After 3 mos. in the hospital, 18 plastic surgery's between the both of us. We both only have faint scars now on our back, but the emotinal scars are so fresh it was like yesterday.
So definatly treat them with kid gloves, and when something like that does happen in life always remeber that you wouldn't be the person you are today.
So keep reminding them of that.

Oh yea. I forgot to say,it is awesome when people come together to help other people out. My cousin and I both missed 6 months of 5th grade, but
our teachers out of the kindness of their heart came over once a week, and gave us our school lessons so we could stay with our class.

I'm so sorry to hear that, but relieved that everyone should be just fine in time. You and your family will be in my thoughts and I hope for a speedy recovery.

The biggest crash in my family was my own, and I was unconscious for a couple of days, so I think I handled it just fine. I hate that darned stop light, though, and curse it every time I drive that way to this day.

I hope they recover as quickly as possible!
I have been in a couple accidents. When I was about 4 or 5 my parents car got hit and I got thrown out of the back of the car (was a hatch back) but I was ok just a concussion. When I was 18 a garbage truck ran a stop sign and hit my car but it was on a side road nobody was going too fast. Had over 30 stitches in my bottom lip, but you wouldn't even know as I had a good dr. Then a young kid rear-ended my bus. Nobody was hurt in that one.

While on the way home from a hs basketball game, my cousin who was on a school bus, passed up a fatal car accident. It was his girlfriend's car and she died. That was so sad. It was many years before he started dating again.

Personally I've been run off the road by lane changers and backed into by people who only use mirrors when backing out of parking spaces. Even had a semitruck back into me. Nothing serious, thank goodness, knock on wood.

I hope their recovery is swift, and I am glad that they were not killed. I am really glad your daughter doesn't need surgery. Car accidents like this can be so scary...

My heart is still weeping for a friend who died last week after being in the hospital for a week, suffering from severe head injuries, after a head-on collision. She will be greatly missed by her 2 young children, husband and friends, including me.
