hehe...I'm picturing a steak floating in a bowl...

      hehehee...cute imagery!

Ya know, if you took a few big portobello mushrooms and grilled them, I'll be they would work to make this a vegetarian soup! You could garnish it with sprouts...onion sprouts would be tasty!

sprouts are evil, but the mushrooms sound gooood!

I'm not too keen on bean sprouts, but fresh onion sprouts are delicious! Warm bread, real butter, and a sprinkling of onion sprouts...delish!

I also love mushrooms. If you do any kind of grilling, try spritzing a few portobellos with some Marsala and then grilling them like meat patties. Man, they are so good that way, I'd rather have them than a meat patty for a sandwich!

hmm...I think we are talking about different things...these are what I mean by sprouts:

Oh, I love Brussels sprouts! But I'm not terribly turned by the idea of roasting them. I like them steamed then rolled in butter, or as a substitute for cabbage in colcannon. With potatoes and onions added, they taste completely different!

too many years of being forced to eat them at Christmas...yukkety

I can relate...there are plenty of things I won't eat today for exactly the same reason!

      BTW...happy birthday!

      Thank ye!

That does look tasty... I'm gonna have to try this next time I get steaks.
    1. SweetViolet
Yup...it is tasty. Just cook up an extra one and it makes dinner for the following night!

This looks super. I'm definitely going to try it and serve sourdough bread with it. Thanks.

It's good...and it's low cal and low cost. Hits all the marks for me!

Sweetviolet, you are a woman after my heart!

Well, I did use "man food" as one of my tags! I've never had a man turn his nose up at this...the minute I say "steak" their eyes light up...and the soup really does taste like steak!
    2. jeremyjanson
      Ooooolala!

Although it is sacrilegious to carve a steak to pieces, that looks good enough to eat!

    Can ya send some over?

    EDIT: Are those your pictures?
    1. SweetViolet
No, those are not my pics...attribution is at the end of the recipe. But the pictures do look like the food that the recipe makes. Sometimes free pics from the web (I use only sites that offer free pics...I have quite a list of them!) actually show the food better than my own pics. But not always!

My husband made this last night. It was great. He also made vegetable kebobs and we had sourdough bread too.

I am so glad you liked it!

Amazing how the soup actually tastes like steak, isn't it?

I checked it out. Sounds like a pretty tasty summertime dish on a cooler summer night here in the mountains. Thank you.

You're welcome. I hope you enjoy it.

It's getting close to supper time. Hmmmm ... what to make on this sweltering hot day? I have dolmas (grape leaves stuffed with a mixture of rice and lamb) ready. Now I'm thinking tabouli, and cucumber and tomato salad, with black olives and chopped fresh dill ) -- all cold.
