After reading multiple traffic building / SEO success stories I figured it was time to hit the pavement and try it for myself. I was a seasoned traffic vet back in web 1.0 when I was manually coding websites every day. But after a couple of years away from development in the corporate sales world it was time to brush the cobwebs off and see what I could muster with my part time blog impaul.com.
Quick Stats from July 1 - July 31
* July traffic report - 22,537 hits, 16,351 users
* spent one hour a day
* 14 posts
* 31 comments
Goal - My original goal was very simple - 1,000 hits, 500 users for the month of July. I had one simple rule to follow spend no more than 1 hour of work on impaul.com a day. This includes writing and promotion. Note: I used zero money just time (arguably is worth quite a bit of money).
Results - The traffic results for July exceeded my goals with 22,537 hits, 16,351 users.
Why? - I had three reasons for this experiment. 1) Pride. Build something from nothing and to hone my traffic building skills. 2) Build credibility. As I begin to selectively accept writing (mashable maybe?), site development and SEO side jobs I needed to ensure clients and myself that I can perform. 3) I wanted to keep impaul.com fresh. I hate having stale websites. Unfortunately, with my travel schedule I still have trouble making time for this site.
