I'm DEFINITELY confused.

If a woman has had sex with other women but not men, is she still considered to be a virgin?

No, she is not, why would she?

Um, if she had sex she's not a virgin, regardless of the specifics. That's pretty much how that works.

Sigh ... more Yahoo answers stuff.

Strictly speaking a virgin is a person (male or female) who has never experienced sexual intercourse.

Obviously there are situations where a hymen is broken without any intercourse taking place. Think of medical procedures and accidents, etc.. There are also situations where a female has experienced only anal intercourse and still has an unbroken hymen. Therefore an unbroken hymen cannot be a criteria for female "virginity".

Turning to males, there can be situations where a male has had anal sex with other males but has never had sexual intercourse with a female. In like fashion I say such males are not virgins.

My definition is a human male or female is a virgin if they have not experienced sexual intercourse with another person, and a penis or penis like object has not entered either their vagina or their anus.

Yup...other sexual activity doesn't count towards virginity status, although I have heard them referred to as "technical virgins" to indicate they may be virgins but they are far from sexually innocent.

I have read a blog post and the comments thereto, wherein young men from India were stating that having anal intercourse with other men was what they were doing to preserve their so-called "virginity" until marriage. I shook my head and clicked out, without leaving a comment. Sheesh ... what utter rubbish!

Well, that would seem to account for the rapid increase in HIV/AIDS in India in recent years...

Sadly, India has over five million people infected with the virus, the second highest rate in the world, after South Africa. The UN’s report on HIV/AIDS prevalence rates in South Asia states that the predominant mode of HIV transmission in India is heterosexual. The second highest mode of transmission is via drug injections. Homosexual transmission rates are not even mentioned in the report at all.

That's because homosexuality is illegal in India and not acknowledged. People who reported transmission via male-to-male anal intercourse could easily end up jailed...the penalty can actually be life imprisonment.

This news article addresses the problem: www.turkishweekly.net/news/83071/-un-decriminalization-of-homosexuality-in-.... Note, however, that the new law to which the article refers affects only the Delhi region, and not India as a whole.

Thanks for that link and for letting me know about the regional application of the new law too. The link above is not working due to the lack of space after the colon. this one does work www.turkishweekly.net/news/83071/-un-decriminalization-of-homosexuality-in-...

P.S. Please check your shoutbox as I left a link of interest for you there.

      Good answer

And by no means am I the brightest crayon in the box, but I'm not necessarily the dullest either.

I'm asking this question because of a recent conversation that I had about some of the women that I know and some of the lengths that they have gone to to hide the true number of sexual partners that they've had(not that it mattered). This discussion then led to someone becoming adamant about she herself being a virgin because of never being with a man.

An add-on question to the one above would be:
Do you think that the majority women stretch the truth about the number of sexual partners that they've had or is it just the ones that I run into?

I do not know what any other women claim and have no way of knowing what the majority claim so I won't be speculating on that.

yup that is the best answer ever ....that's how i "see" and understand what is virgin
