About Blog Catalog Rank Numbers...

I'm wondering, when someone
joins Blog Catalog, they are
given a rank right away. How
is that that determined? Does
a real live human (as opposed
to a fake dead human) go over
to their blog and check it out
and assign it a number? Or does
everybody start with the same
number which then goes up or down
based on the merits of their blog?

Right, I agree that those things
you mentioned are what determine
how your rank goes up and down,
after you have joined Blog Catalog.
But I was wondering about the rank
number you are given the moment
you join, before you have hits,
or people in your neighborhood...
how is that initial number figured
out? Anyone know? -
You can find some tips on increasing your blog rank in the following discussion:

we can't reveal all of our secrets though -
I have a follow-up question: Is the rank based only on the actions and ratings fellow blogcatalog users? Because the number of hits and visistors shown is far less than my stats on other sites for one day. Either I need to spend more time here or I need to stop looking at those numbers.

the more time you spend clicking around on BlogCatalog will help you increase your ranking. Mostly because everywhere you go your avatar is left behind for people to see and click. We also use these trails to determine who some of our most valuable users are, and place them on our BlogCatalog Fanatics list.
Another great way to increase your rank is to get your readers to visit BlogCatalog and leave a valuable review on your blog listing page.

I did a small regression based on what stats are available. I don't have anything close to an equation, but the following three things seems to make up the blog ranking:
1) Number of people in your neighborhood.
2) Lifetime visits
3) Lifetime hits
Site traffic and BlogCatalog friends do NOT seem to affect your score.
Other than a placement on the front page (which I'm not even certain most members of the site visit) I'm not really sure what the advantage is of having a high blog rank.
Especially if you can increase your rank without people ever visiting your site. Getting people to join your neighborhood and visit your internal page says nothing about your blog, it only says something about your BlogCatalog profile and your activity on the forums. -
Excuse my ignorance, but how do i know my blogcatalog rank? where can I see it? just leave me a message if anyone can help me on this.. Thx

Which is a better rank? 19.1 or 48.4? I just added my blog and got a rank of 19.1 whereas I can find very active blogs in here with a rank of 50+.

Is your goal to 100 than? or is the goal to be number 1? I am confused??
My rank seems to be steadily going up and getting closer to 100, so I am assuming that the goal is 100. Am I right? -

I have some questions:
1) Can BlogCatalog rank goes down if your competitors deliberately rate you low (eg: 1 star)?
2) What rank number does 'good' blog achieve? 100? 200? 500?-

A new kid on the block as of this morning, I'm over 2 years late answering your question, but I too wondered how brand new blogs were rated. It's now my guess that every new blog is given approximately the same rating. An average somewhere between 25 & 50 out of a 100. Any lower might be discouraging to some. And this gives plenty of room for bloggers to grow & raise their future ranking by participating in all the activities here, a win-win for all. Of course it's only a guess...

I clicked the username of the member who posted this thread two years ago on 5/31/07 and this is what I found:

IMHO it's unlikely that an Admin member may enter this resurrected thread and answer you. Therefore, I suggest that you contact Admin directly www.blogcatalog.com/contact/
