Hey, Yesterday I was driving along the Pacific Highway heading out of Sydney (Australia)

I didn't notice but i had a quick nap - next i realise im veering towards the sandstone wall. Im definte that if not for the viberating lanes which woke me up I would have had a horrible crash.

How to recognise when your falling asleep

Have you had a similar experience? - what do you do when your driving and tired?

The one time I did that, I was (I thought) wide awake and on my way to work. I remember driving toward a stop light, which was green, and then I remember someone putting stitches in my nose. I hit the light pole, on which that green light hung. That's how fast it was. I didn't even nod off, I switched off.

There was a lot going on in my life, then, and I'd been up for about three days. I felt fine, but apparently my brain decided I could use a four-day rest, with bonus drugs. I could have done without the broken arm, though.

    hey..

how lucky you are? I always got enough sleep for long trip and never have that experience yet.

That site, www.eurocarsmazda.com.au, has good tips on how to avoid falling asleep behind the wheel.

Some of you might find it useful.

    cheers

I was on a trip once sleeping in the back of a station wagon. (tells ya that this was a while ago huh?) I woke up air-born, bouncing all over, as the car ran off the road. Thankfully, the side of the road was soft construction dirt and not a cliff, and none were hurt. The driver had fallen asleep.
You give good advice in your post

I had that happen in college. I felt myself falling asleep on the way to school and I had to open the windows (it was winter) and blast some heavy metal.

    Hasn't happened since.

Yeah - its was definately scarey. But I can gladly say that its wasn't extreme as pamelabaker's story.

They did a 20/20 type show about this very subject and proved that tired drivers are just as dangerous as a intoxicated ones.
