After experiencing some new, personalized, and even hand-crafted Spamming techniques in the last couple of days, I was feeling kinda feisty and wrote a humor post about it--

www.cabbagesnkings.net/2009/07/ad-kiers-keyword-infesters-and-other.html

I know TT and some others had mentioned the new Keyword Infesters-- people who use SEO terms as their user names and leave comments to direct traffic.

And yesterday, I got a-- well, if you read the post, you'll see...

(Let's just say I'd like to tell this guy what to do with his shoe skates.)

Anyway, because so many of these new spamming techniques are not done by robots, they're not getting filtered out.

So how are you folks handling them? Have you seen an increase in these kinds of comments lately?

And do you have any that were particularly funny or infuriating to share?

Great article, TSR--and very funny cartoon! I left you a comment.

Thanks, Melinda! I knew here there would be a number of BCers who'd also feel the pain.

Read it. I agree. Also like your humor.
I had an incident with a splogger yesterday.
I wish those spammers and sploggers would ki$$ something.

Oh, Dennis, I hear that! Have you contacted the splogger about his tactics? In reading your comment, that was an all-new low even for sploggers, I thought.

Great blog article and left a comment (and I didn't leave any keywords either lol).
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Heh, well YOU I actually know.

And it's a lot easier in the comments to address "Jafabrit" than it is "Excellent Quality Shorts" or some such username nonsense:)

I even got a 1:2 comment request. The user offered two comments on my blog in return for one be me on her blog. So bloody innovative.

Oh, yes, that joy. I've seen those shiny proposals occasionally in spam threads here on BC.

At least, they get deleted pretty quickly!

Think of all the creative juices spammers are inspiring. I suppose for that we should be grateful to them. Very funny article. I left a comment.

Thank you, NP! They triggered my anti-spam Hulk Rage, is all.

Turned my avatar green 'n everything.

Christ, you are funny. I love it.

      Thanks, Mr. Whitman.

As I clearly haven't bothered to organize myself to get blog traffic, even the spammers can't find me. As Lily Tomlin once said, "I have to hang a porkchop around my neck to get the dog to play with me..."

Nonetheless, a few of them have stumbled through. I am now close, personal friends with FlashPlayer (now there's an original name) who spammed my blog. All we have in common is music, which as you know, is a very small field.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Cindy-- Ah, that FlashPlayer: behaves just as you'd expect a player would who thinks he's a bit flash. Stops by and uses you and your blog. Typical.

I &hearts your post funny lady

TT- I thought you might be able to relate!

Hmmmm ... I guess that you have detected that I have a rant or two about comment spammers and ad ki$$ers deep down inside that's screaming to be published.
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
Yeah, I suspected it was lurking there in the brainpan.

Also, I saw you'd posted a few days ago here on the username/keyword offenders. It had corresponded with some of my more recent spam friends, too.

Gee, you mean Mr. Coupons's first name isn't really McDonald's? (Who the hell looks for coupons for a place with a dollar menu?! If you're that broke, stay home.)
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Oh, I haven't gotten that one.

As recently as this morning, I keep getting "Down Comforter" and "Down Pillow" as the username in the comments on my thrifting blog. (Also Tommy Bahama Shorts.)

I've wondered how something so soft and fluffy as down could start ticking me off so much!

A humorous look and post about a serious and very annoying problem.

The ad kissers are especially annoying because they can get you banned. I really don't mind people leaving links, though, as long as they add something to the discussion.
