added top commenters on my blog - has anyone seen good increase in discussions?

trying to see if adding the top commenters plugins for WP would help increase more bloggers put in their opinion of my post and create discussions

has anyone added the top commenters and had success with more discussions?

no, i haven't but i feel like trying it soon, i just have the recent comments widget and find that really cool^^

Had it on an old block and it can create quite a contest between posters if you have the traffic and some reason for them to be on the list

I love comments and the interactions a blog allows.

I am in a very narrow niche (video games) and gamers are typically pretty competitive so I found something that helps encourage participation. Each month I do a Monthly Update, outlining various blog stats, top 10 articles, top 10 commenters, etc. When I list the commenters, I also link whatever site they would like. They love battling it out. I have not seen a decline in the quality of comments either. All comments remain on topic and worthy of discussion. I have seen my average number of comments rise per article, people love participating and seeing their name up there, I love interacting with my readers, it just seems to be a win-win situation.

Ian, I addded the top commentators thing on my blog (you're on there hehe), and honestly I didn't notice any changes in the number of comments, but anyway it's cool to give a little link love to my top commentators so it's all good

  yes! I just like commenting on your topics, cause they either hit at one point or recently - with the plugin I just wanted to see if it will great like a comment competition within the blog

I added that plugin to my blog when it was a month old and it helped me get early commenters. It really depends on the type of visitor.

i think that it definitely boosted my comments. Make sure it enables a link to the commenter's webpage.
