Well the first question is: do you have traffic ?
If not try Hubpages rather cause it drives traffic for you, knowing nothing about adsense and seo I made 80$ per month with adsense:

I've made $10 yesterday alone with Adsense on 1 blog. And it's all legitimate clicks. Use the 300*250 ad format. But ads before your content so they are the first thing people see. Get a lot of traffic but only targeted visitors. Try to blend the color of your Adsense ads with your site's layout. Using Adsense is one of the easiest ways to make money online. It might not make you rich but it can provide extra revenue.

I don't think I will give up on Adsense. To say that "everyone" knows about adsense if flawed. Most of my friends and family get confused when I mention Adsense. I have to constantly remind my girlfriend not to click on the adsense ads when she reads my blog from our home PC
Like blackzedd mentioned: a site where your target reader is not so net savvy is the best place to put Adsense. -
I'm pretty satisfied with AdSense, though it's not the only ad content I feature. I do try to set up the page so the ad content doesn't overwhelm. And if you use the tools, you can match ads to your subject areas. They've been so good at matching that sometimes, I have to resist clicking on my own ads because I'm actually interested in a product. I agree you must have the traffic. When I have a day with at least 1,000 unique visitors, I see some nice results.
My traffic seems to really dip and spike though, depending on what I write about.
best, KBD -
I don't think that adsense is s**k...In my blogs I earn $15.00 everyday...It's depend on how interesting your sites/blogs is..

I'm still learning the ropes with AdSense & have never made more than $20 in a single day but it seems to me that those of you who think too many people "know" about AdSense are thinking too small. There are tons of new internet users online everyday who have never seen or heard of such a thing. Seems to me that if your blog / website is not getting many clicks even though you have traffic then perhaps it's the quality of the traffic and not the ads themselves. I mean if your blog or website is only attracting internet savvy peeps...then maybe it's time for a re-org? Just my humble opinion. Lots of folks make money online, maybe not the millions we hear about but they are out there....I mean someone is paying for all those clicks, right?

Thanks for listening. -
I know: AdSense sucks.
Now, in my world, it works pretty well. I'm getting a response rate of about 0.5% - not all that spectacular, but not bad, either.
I worked for about 20 years in direct mail, an industry that's not, I think, all that unlike online advertising. I'm taking a page view as equivalent to one mailing piece.
In direct mail, if a company makes a sale from one-half of one percent of the pieces it sends, it's not doing too badly. Nobody's going to be too happy, but it probably won't be viewed as a disaster.
Getting 3% response, or anything above that, would be reason to break out the champaign.
As for me, I'm trying to boost that 0.5% rate, but I'm trying harder to boost traffic.
Which is a whole different topic. -
You also have to remember that the traffic you are getting will have a large impact on the result.
Adsense is contextual (to some extent successfully) which means that the ad will reflect the topic of the page or post.
Because of this, people who arrive on your site from a search engine, probably looked for something close to whats in the ads. The result is that they are more prone to click ads than people who arrive through social networks etc.
Without search engine traffic, your revenue will be low.
My adsense is very high on the days when i get lots of Search Engine Traffic. and almost 90% less on a day when its Social network heavy. -

AdSense actually works quite well. It took me about a year to figure out how to use it correctly - but if you get it working right it makes more than any other CPC network.

@lath
Read the Google adsense policies & terms of service. Know that clicking ads as you suggest is click fraud that can get you banned & blacklisted. www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=48182

I think it's not because of AdSense is suck or what. If you need more click on AdSense, do not make blog about blogging and anything that have to do with Ads and so on.
Change the niche like "online dating". Usually, those people rarely pay attention, whatever that attract their eyes, they'll click. -
Adsense is never history , make money with it depends on a few things: 1-your target audience,don't expect to make big money with personal blog, most reader would be returning people so they might only click once in their lifetime. 2-if you have a say, website about all the available apartments in new York city, you would sure get huge traffic and clicks because people are " searching". Google beats yahoo because it emphasizes Search. The question you should ask is: what people are looking for? Do my ads provide what they are looking for?(apartments ads) . 3- I'm going to eat breakfast now .....sorry

The bottom line is that cheap credit is no more. Companies are cutting back on their marketing and advertising budgets and fewer people are clicking ads. Add it that the fact that very few bloggers have the degree of expertise required to produce content that brings in the massive number of hits on advertisements that are required to make a living from blogging.
You will never make a significant income from blogging and relying solely on Adsnense if you lack expertise in a specific niche and you do NOT know how to:
* be a skillful blogger;
* create an archive full of quality content;
* structure a search engine optimized blog;
* promote your blog via social networks and other means;
* establish and maintain a faithful and growing readership (organic traffic)
I don’t think there is a single best way to make money by blogging. I think the nature of the blog, the niche it’s in, and the quality of the contents are all factors that go into selecting the combination of advertising and affiliate plans that may be workable for any given blog.

I think most people just Google what they are looking for. Once in a great while they may come across something they want to click on.

Pose a question related to your theme, but don't provide any answers yourself, try to attrct ads which will prove useful links. An example is product review. The post might attract potential buyers, but they may click on ads if they are links for related products.
You will not get many adsense clicks from blog traffic. Nearly all of it will come from search engine traffic. In my own case, it's people coming to my site looking to download free stuff. The ads direct them to additional sites.
