I am trying to figure out if I am doing anything right with this blogging thing however things like ranking confuse me it is important to know whether I am making any headway so here is my question please don't laugh I seriously don't know anything about this stuff

My guidetolifeblog has an alex rank of 449,101 which puts in the top 1.47% is this a good thing? Because I have misinterpreted numbers before thinking I was at the top end only to discover I was really at the bottom!!!! It has a google page rank of 3 and again I thought I was aiming at being a number 1 with this not 10 lol I just need a little encouragement to keep my faith in what I am doing :o)

449,101 - is excellent! With Alexa - the goal is to go down, down, down. And quite a few people are still up in the millions, so you're doing GREAT

Mine on that new blog is in the 700,000 range - and it started out something like a gazillion. LOL

Alexa rank is the lower the better, PR is the higher the better.

offendedblogger.com is in the 280,000 range for Alexa, which is actually much higher than it was before summer came.

    Mine shows 322,139.

But I thought it as higher the better!!
    Disappointed to know this

322,139 is not bad at all for a blog!

Search on Alexa for google.com or blogcatalog.com and you will see that lower is definitely better, though.

if it doesn't show up, than ask alexa to check it. I am not sure how to do it, but there is a place somewhere to enter your blog url and let alexa know to check it

Alexa isn't the best measurement system if you are simply trying to build readership and not sell advertising. I don't think Alexa is trying to be accurate but rather the Neilsen of the internet.

Use your traffic numbers as your measurement. Set your goals based on them, like increasing page views, or returning visitors, etc.

But most of all, concentrate on the content. It's the only thing you control 100% of the time.

I think you should build a blog for your readers and not for ranking purposes. If you blog is good, people will generally want to link with you, which make your blog more popular and in turn increase your rank.

Build for readers, not search engine or ranking.
