I am really proud of our country and I am PROUD to see something happen that I did not think could happen in my generation.
I am happy for my parents who are both very successful and have worked hard and are smiling in their souls.
I am happy for the people that came before Obama and blazed a trail that has allowed for a man like Obama to be accepted because of his vision and his hope.

Obama has.... in a lot of ways transcended the color of his skin.

Today June 3, 2008 is a very special day to a lot of Americans from every race.

Today does not change anything, but it is a start that could be the type of change that was brought about by people like KING Jr., Kennedy and others.

I missed that, I'll have to see if CNN is running a repeat of it.

It's on his campaign site, and you can probably get an audio version on NPR. (I heard it live on the radio.)

Imagine going back in time and telling a slave that in 2008 there would be a black presidential candidate!

      They would never believe it.

you don't have to go back that far, you can go back 50 years!

My grandparents are in awe. My great grandmother is in tears. On my maternal side at least. The Mexican side is like "NOOOOOOOO!! We want Bill back!!"

    *lol*

But I agree - a wonderful, wonderful day.

I should think even Republicans can admit to the country having come a long way to be able to choose such a candidate. That's what this thread is about. Who you want to vote for is another issue.

(And your incessant link dropping is making you sound like a broken record.)

I posted about it on my blog. Not a post really just a notation because one can't have a blog without noting it.

Well I think if the US is going to tell the world about democracy and freedom, that frankly this is long overdue. I agree its a momentous occasion but now that you've reached this point I'd hate to see America go backwards next time round
