Hey there... I've just written a post about American Idol:

curageousideas.blogspot.com/2008/01/american-idol-flashback.html

But now I want to hear from you. Do you think some of the auditions are people who know they have no talent but just want to make a name for themselves and be on television? And what about Randy, Paula, and Simon? Are they just acting or exhibiting their true personalities?

I think people love to play the fool. There is no way that someone could sing that badly and not actually know they suck. As far as the judges I think they are more real. Paula is a people pleaser and has shown herself as that numerous times on different tv shows. Simon is a lovable jerk. I love watching the stupid people leave all pissed off but I also feel bad for those who were just okay and they leave crying. Now as far as randy goes, I have no idea in he is just acting.

Thanks Mlinauer... I broke out laughing at your comment. "There is no way that someone could sing that badly and not actually know they suck" It sounds like you've got a great handle on the show. Please come back.

I cannot sing. I am tone deaf. I opened my mouth and belted out one note and knew right there and then........I suck at singing. If I went before the judges and they asked me why I am there, I would have to explain how someone kidnapped me and are forcing me to sing for them or my beloved gold fish, blondie, would die. I love watching simon just berate them. I just wish he was nicer to those that can sing and are not right for the show.

I think the jokes with Simon and Ryan are written by a writer. Every show has writers right? Because the jokes seemed forced. Maybe I am wrong but they seem good friends off the show.

I think some go on just for TV time that can't sing and hope they get picked up on youtube and make money with their website.

  6. webrunner
of course some people are just hamming it up, there are alot of self-absorbed people out there looking for tv fame.
  7. acousticguitarist
i8t would be nice go on there, do something stupid and wear your blog url on your shirt
  8. BRQS
Ha, ha, .... That would draw some interesting comments for sure.

Thanks Webrunner... You're right about people looking for TV fame.
  10. BRQS
Just curious... Anyone watching it tonight?
  11. mikeny07
Yes I watch it every week. I love music as you can tell by all of my music blogs I have. I try to find people who might make it through and be great singers.

So far I am not that impressed with anyone.
  12. BRQS
Well let's see how this week goes. Let me know if you spot the next winner. Maybe I can make a few bucks in Vegas! (smile)

100%. If it wasn't smarmy and hyper, it wouldn't sell.

American Idol is a financial flaw. Most of the winners get dropped from their label because of poor sales. Try to guess why.
  15. robinj
no reality television is reality it is cut and paste commercialism
  16. BRQS
Rivers, I agree several of them get dropped from their labels but I see some are still doing quite well. Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry, and Carrie Underwood are hanging steady.
    1. riverstyxxx
Not really. History has a funny way of repeating itself in the mainstream industry. Once you go down, it's hard to get back up.

      www.hecklerspray.com/kelly-clarkson-sacks-off-her-own-tour/20078793.php

That's Kelly's summer tour canceled because of poor ticket sales. No Tour = No Money for her. Record sales pay dick to the actual artist, you should know this by now. One thing about these pop stars is they love making money, and they usually leave when it gets old or they get frustrated.

i still love Simon for his "honest" opinions. but of course, there is no reality in reality shows.
  18. BRQS
Riverstyxx, thanks for the informative link. Wow. Bad news! It seems to me like the entire music industry is going down. Free downloads and file sharing are having a big impact on profits. Do you feel like the American Idol winners are getting hit harder than other musicians?
  19. BRQS
Miund, seems like people either love Simon or hate him. I sometimes wonder (obviously per this post) if he's for real.

sorry didn't read your article... but i'd say American idol is 75% over reacting...
  21. damonm55
I always considered it "under acting".

Have you seen this? I don't know how old it is. I don't watch American Idol, so I'm not sure.

I thought it was kind of funny.
  23. Pentad
ok..I see it was from January.

American Idol sux! They already know who they are going to pick. You telling me from all those people that show up to those casting calls they are able to filter out thousands of people from each state. Come on it will take waaaaayyyyyy tooooo loooonnnggg.
  25. BRQS
Auburn and Damon, thanks for the comments... You guys have used different words to describe the same phenomenon! (Smile) Nice input.
  26. BRQS
Tamera, I watched the clip. It was funny. They seemed to be making a mockery of a few auditions. Pretty goofy!

    Thanks for sharing.

American Idol is just a stupid show to degrade people

I like American Idol because whether or not it's good or bad, it entertains.

Yes, I think some of the people auditioning are just doing it to get on TV. Remember William Hung? He sucked hard, but he was so bad and funny, he got a deal to cut a few albums... and PEOPLE BOUGHT THEM! I didn't buy, but I did listen to a few songs on his Christmas album. Hilarious.

Paula is crazy and on drugs, she has to be. I think Simon is honest. I think Randy is a mix of Simon and Paula. He's honest, but he's also nice about it.

Whoever writes the banter between Ryan and Simon should give it a rest.

I think some people honestly think they can sing. Don't you know people like that? I do. I also think some of them are just out for their 15 minutes of fame.

When Idol first came on it was entertaining. Now it's just old and now that the show is popular I'm sick of looking at all of that non-talent. Those people would stop showing up if they knew they weren't going to get on national t.v. for acting a fool.

I'd personally like them to concentrate on the real talent and give them their 15 minutes of fame, let us get to know them from the onset rather than those snippets they try to sneak in between the goofballs if you even get to see a snippet of them at all.

As for the trio, I think they're who they are... considering that they still know they're on national t.v. I don't think Simon gives a kitty.
  34. BRQS
Gallego... Do you think the show degrades people? Or do they degrade themselves? Thanks for the comment.
  35. BRQS
Thanks for the comment Jillsaxon. I remember Hung. I didn't know he cut a christmas album. Not that I would have bought one either. Funny!
  36. BRQS
Thanks 2sweetnsaxy..... Yeah, I know a few people who can't sing but think they can. But I know more people who can't sing and admit they can't... Right Tamera? Bad joke I know... laugh with me!
