fantastic. Are you going to list them, or are you compensating for self-hatred by being a sarchastic @$$?
    2. voodooKobra
Hahahaha. I applaud your facetious response, dbowels.
    3. dbowles1017
You asked how many. So I told you how many.

      Feminism is a contemporary problem?
    2. jeremyjanson
      Of course it's a problem!
    3. Agit8r
      a problem for whom?
    4. jeremyjanson
Reaction's can be problems, like the reaction I had to peanuts at the age of 4. That problem put me in the hospital for months!
    5. Agit8r
are you comparing feminism to a peanut allergy?
    6. jeremyjanson
Yes. They both hurt me. I'm just a sensitive sensitive man.

this could be a viable answer... if men weren't disporpotionately represented in governments...
    2. freeatlast
Agit8r: Men disproportionally represented in government??!!! What planet do you live on???

      (work with me)
    3. Agit8r
well, I live in WA, where we have a female governor and two U.S. senators... but elsewhere...
    4. freeatlast
yes elsewhere... how about state reps, city, other states... I should look up the statistics, if there is a catchall place to find out the exact number/percentage of male to female representation.

Of course it is getting better, but a long road ahead.
    5. Agit8r
well here in spokane we have a female mayor (Mary Verner), and a female U.S. Representative (Cathy McMorris Rodgers).

In any case, I'm not certain that machismo is only displayed by men.

    Wow...have a tough day agit8r?
  3. rfburnhertz
agit8r, I could of course be wrong, but I go the idea from your question that you intended to go in a specific direction.

Maybe you should have gotten to your over all point which your question was meant to lead to.

Myself, I'm far more interested in that than in your question.
I'd like to know what you were leading up to, assuming you were leading up to something.
    1. drjay1966
Ummm...I could be wrong about this, but I think his overall point was that contemporary problems are the result of the self-hating over-compensating excessive cultural machismo that pervades everyday life.
    2. Agit8r
      thank you drjay1966

it was really a rhetorical question sparked by the "friend suicide" thread
    3. rfburnhertz
@drjay1966... ummm thanks for the tip.
      @Agit8r, I haven't seen that thread yet.
I'll search it out, I assumed there was something behind the question.

    Machismo?...what is this, Brazil?
    1. Agit8r
      English word... Definition:

      1) A strong or exaggerated sense of masculinity stressing attributes such as physical courage, virility, domination of women, and aggressiveness.

you have to admit is it odd...
    3. jeremyjanson
      Sounds like a fun time.
    4. Agit8r
sure... if you're the Governor of California and are brain damaged from the anabolic steroids
    5. jeremyjanson
Or if you want to be...

Well, the economic crisis was precipitated by a bunch of people, likey a majority of them male, playing a long and stupid game of "dare" with other people's money. "I double dog dare you to leverage these options even though you just lost your shirt on those pork futures." "You're not too chicken to take on a reverse mortgage for $50,000 more than the house is actually worth, are you?" Is that the sort of thing for which you were looking?
    1. Agit8r
      yes, thank you : )

I would compare it to craps though... so just remember when (if) you see the next bull market, it's really bullcraps

Don't worry, the next generation is filled with pansies that wear girl pants and act like girls.
    1. Agit8r

The point is... oh f~ck it!
    2. trailofpen
      Must I reiterate... "Girl pants."

"How many contemporary problems are the result of the self-hating over-compensating excessive cultural machismo that pervades everyday life?"

Did you just string those words together at random so that your respondents could free-associate, or did you actually have a point that you wished to communicate?
    1. jeremyjanson
I think mostly he just hates manliness. In WA, he's surrounded by too much of it. Poor guy, all them lumberjacks with their big fat chainsaws and pickup trucks!

Or is Western WA just manlier and more awesome then Eastern?
  8. DailyBeerReview
Jeez. I can't even remember all the adjectives one after another. But this sounds a little bit America bashing. Correct me if I'm wrong.
    1. IanThal
I can think of many countries that take machismo to greater extremes than the United States.
    2. jeremyjanson
@IT: I know, we must catch up.
