I firmly believe in ghosts and the supernaturial, both positive and negative energies. I have a ghost in my house, as a matter of fact, but a very friendly, tranquil one.
Amityville Horror ...the story of the Lutz family and their haunted home.... what do you believe?

Whatever the truth is, the movie, The Amityville Horror, will remain one of the most chillingly realistic records of paranormal events.

unfortunately even the movie is "out of order" as it doesn't tell everything chronoligically (ie: the priest went to bless the house in the beginning, not towards the end of the Lutz's stay as per the movie). But I agree, it is chilling!

I don't believe in it, but I wouldn't call it hogwash.

LOL seriously - evade much? I've had friends who have dealt with mean spirits - would mess with their stuff, turn things upside down, etc.... but thankfully nothing like the amityville horror. I knew from day 1 that I had a ghost and was thankful that he wasn't mean - he just likes to let me know he's around once in awhile LOL

Holly, it's simple. I don't believe it myself, but I wouldn't call somebody else's belief "hogwash."

Sjtavo.....how do you know for certain there's a ghost in your house? Have you seen an apparition or just had paranormal experiences?

I've had experiences. the first day I moved in, I noticed my linen closet door wasn't closing - the latch is tricky and unless you jimmy the doorknob, the door won't shut. After messing with it for a few minutes, I decided to give up and went into my kitchen. Then I heard a door shut hard...I walked back and my linen closet door was closed securely. I had two choices...I could freak or I could talk. So yes, I stood there and explained that I loved this house, I meant no disrespect and hoped we could both stay here in peace (I know someone who could help me resolve a problem spirit so I wasn't terribly concerned). Sine then, he (don't ask me why, I just feel it's a He) will still occassionally mess with the linen closet door or rap on the windows....(freaked a guy out so much one night he left!) I also have a cat and animals are known to perceive spirits and my cat will occassionally become raptured with, well, air?? LOL

my exs house was haunted. We heard people crying banging on the closet doors, had stuff moves when no one was home, it was a nightmare. Hiw ghost were mean spirited and evil. I wont go in to many details but I hated stay ing there so much when we got our divorce I let him keep his place.
    1. sjtavo
well I'm sure he appreciated that! Negative spirits really need to be purged and sent to where they belong - they are tortured and feed off the energy of the inhabitants (ie: if you guys were fighting or in very good moods, they'd feed off that energy and it's possibly the activity in the house increased at times like that?)

Sjtavo.....you should buy a digital recorder and try to capture some EVPs.

If I were being bothered by him I think I would try to capture "proof" but since we get along and he doesn't seem to feed too much off my energy, we just co-exist peacefully. My alcoholic neighbor bothers me more than my ghost!

I believe that people sincerely believe in it, and respect that. But I believe there is typically a non-paranormal explanation for things.

I both work and live in buildings that are old-- from the 1800s. You get goofy architectual elements that end up acting in unexpected ways due to changes over time, weather and updating.

For instance, the first night I was in my house it absolutely sounded like someone was walking up my hard-wood steps from downstairs to the upstairs, one at a time. Scared the bejeebers out of me, and I was convinced I had an intruder...

Turns out, a main central air vent was right under them. And as it would heat or cool, so would the wooden steps. Making my invisible intruder.

I'm used to it now-- but what a fright I'd had!

I agree that many sounds you can explain away with a shifting or settling house, AC, etc... doors shutting and latching by themselves, voices, etc.... i don't think a house's ventilation system can talk LOL

No, but acoustics can pick up certain things we sometimes wouldn't expect. And also just like the brain tends to make shapes seem like faces, it also tends to register certain tones/sounds like voices.

And doors shutting and latching by themselves can be uneven floors/doorframes (one of my own doors does this) and the momentum of the door swinging.

Now I'm getting in a Halloween mood.
The story was proved a hoax, but what a great movie.
    A Halloween must have.

i seem to find conflicting reports on both sides - that it was a hoax, that it wasn't a hoax...
