Archaeologists have just discovered another ancient temple in Peru, near Cuzco. They think it predates the Inca empire. ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jvuJgQSbgzEnKgvnOLUlXXlZoXsgD8VDF56G0

Can you imagine hiking along and stumbling upon one of these places? What ancient sites have you visited and/or are interested in and why?

I've visited Tikal, Quirigua (Guatemala) and Copan (Honduras). Here is an image of TIKAL, Guatemala (you know, where they filmed a Survivor series!):

I visited Masada near the Dead Sea in Israel ... it was fantastic! The ride up was darn scary tho. I visited a few other places in Israel as well, they were all great, but Masada stands out in my mind as quite spectacular.

If I knew how to insert a photo I would!

I always wanted to visit Macchu Picchu in Peru... My friend went couple years back and couldn't stop raving about it.

Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to visit many ancient civilizations... yet

Haven't had the opportunity to visit many ancient places. Pompeii was really interesting, though. It was astonishing just to wonder around and imagine what the civilization must have been like.

I'd love to go to see many of the South American sites some day!

I've only seen Stone Henge and that was from the motorway. That one will always be my favourite. Although I wouldn't mind seeing the Great wall of China and the pyramids some day.

My husband and I have visited ancient pre-inca and inca ruins, temples and citadels in Junin, Ayacucho and Cusco in Peru. These places are in the central and southern Andes of Peru. There are more ancient ruins/constructions in the north of Peru but we haven't been there yet. We go for a 6 week holiday every year and a half or so and travelling the central and southern Andes take all of our available time.

You can visit my travel blog at:

I also sell Peruvian handcrafts on my ebay shop at:

Hope one day we can visit many other ancient places like some of you...

I have been to the Pyramids in Egypt, and I have visited the sites of all of the Seven Churches of Revelation in Turkey. My favorite was Ephesus.
