I often wonder which I like better - animals or people? I also wonder if this makes me just a tad bit antisocial.

What do you think? If you sometimes (or even most of the time) like animals better than people, why? Thanks so much for your thoughts and opinions!

Well, I have a turtle. He's bitten me a few times, but we've since reconciled.

The thing about animals is they're mostly innocent. As far as we (I) know, they mostly act according to their instincts or the natural way of things. People, on the other hand...
  2. kataztrophy
It's easy to say animals are innocent compared to people. Interaction between the two are totally different. If a Puppy could cuss you out, it probably would(depending on it's upbringing).
  3. morgantj
    people are animals
    1. Svelmoe
Indeed. But animals aren't people (they are food, then again - Soylent Green are people :D)

CONGRATULATIONS! You understand the first rule of reverse logic.

I sometimes wonder what I like better also.
My black lab, Buddy, is always in a happy mood. I am sure if Buddy could talk there would have been several times that he would have cussed me out; especially the times I went canoing and left him at home to contend with my cat, Lobo.

You are all HYSTERICAL!!! Thanks for the replies!

      My pleasure!

Definitely animals, although I do agree they might cuss you out if they could. I know one of my cats would, for not letting her go out on the deck, for kicking her off of my laptop, for yelling at her when she gets on the kitchen counters... for typing too loudly right now while she is giving me "the look"...

      Focus you're a hoot!
    2. brigid
As said above, animals are innocent. And as also said they'd likely cuss you out on certain occasions.

Of course, human babies are innocent, and my Grandma has stated on occasion that if we could understand what they were babbling we'd probably be washing their mouths out with soap.

I uploaded in my Japanese blog about related topic. All exsistances in this Universe are connected and the essence is the same, but to make changes it had started to devide like bunches of tree.We man-kind has the tendency to feel great about exsistances which are similar(closer in the history) to us,it because of our basic love for our ownselves, which is for the straggle of exsistance. But I think when your soul gets closer to the essence, you can feel love for every kind of things. We are all same and different,anyway....
But I say the animals are closer to the essence,so more likely they are more beautiful to me.

If you are really the person your dog believes you to be, you will have achieved something great in this lifetime.
  14. accidentalsexiness
I pick animals, they have no malice.
  15. ThriftShopRomantic
I would say animals, only this neighbor cat likes to roll over, unveil her very furry belly for me to scratch and then...

    BITE my hand.

Yet I STILL fall for it.

    I'm a moron.
    1. mariamichelle
      You are too FUNNY
    2. morgantj
@mariamichelle, looking back at your replies, you are too agreeable.
    3. brigid
The cat is playing. Unless he draws blood, then you have a problem.

Anyway, I've had cats do that to me many times. It's kinda like what they do with balls of yarn, only with your hand.

If you want the cat to let go, let your arm go limp. Chances are good the cat with let go and may even express concern. (Subtle though that expression may be.)

I've noticed this trend. Americans have become obsessed with pets. Yeah I know with the consolidation of the food and supply industries, came huge marketing campaigns but the American consumer took to it in an especially big way. Might have something to do with the average American feeling a little more isolated somehow and pet ownership does mimic social interaction. Of course it's a one-sided social interaction as the pet is not capable of interaction on a human level.

So the human owner can read what he wants out of it. It's kind of sad how many people believe their dog has emotions. thoughts and feelings that are distinctly human. Sorry folks, your pet's brain isn't wired for sympathy, empathy, longing, joy or love. I'm not a religious person but I do know that Human Beings are indeed special. And the argument that animals are not violent or malicious is ridiculous. When humans behave in a way that is appalling, we are appalled usually cause that person has not acted with human intellect and emotion but on baser instinct, in other words more like an animal.

When a wolfe kills another member of the pack, what's it doing? When a lion takes out little lion cubs, what is that? It's all part of nature and anyone who has really observed nature and animals can tell you one thing for sure about nature, It's Damn Brutal.

I'm not saying I hate animals. I have no feelings about them. I can't hate a dog for just being a dog. I actually find some animals amusing to look at, watch lots of nature programming etc. The premise of this thread is ridiculous though. C'mon humans or animals. I would assume it's a joke but the way some people are......
    1. mattiasx
I strongly disagree with your comment about animals not feeling emotions. I've seen dogs that have been terrified (ie. previous owners abused them). While they don't display what they're feeling through facial expressions, a lot is evident through their body language. While their thoughts may not be as complex as ours, I wouldn't go so far as to say that they don't feel any emotions at all.
  17. accidentalsexiness
People kill people all the time too. So nature is brutal on both sides. I feel sorry for you that you don't have feelings for the living creatures that are part of the world you live in.

    Peace...

Animals a lot of the time. I get a long with them better, for one thing. I don't know why, but I find it a lot easier to understand animals than people.

I also have the most adorable rabbit in the world. Who desperately needs a nail trim. If I can get him to sit still long enough.

Read through this ... it's so great!

    Dog's Purpose (from a 6-year-old)

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to
examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's
owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached
to Belker, and they were hoping for
    a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of
cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker,
and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old
    dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told
me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to
observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn
    something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in
my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so
calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered
if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes,

    Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition
without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for
a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the
s ad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.

Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped
    up, "I know why."

Startled, we all turned to him. What came
out of his mouth next stunned me. I 'd never heard a more
    comforting explanation.

He said, "People are born so that they
can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all
the time and being nice, right?" The six-year-old continued,
"Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

    Live simply.

    Love generously.

    Care deeply.

    Speak kindly.

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you
    would learn things like_

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to
    be Pure Ecstasy.

    Take naps.

    Stretch before rising.

    Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

    Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you're not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and
    nuzzle them gently.

ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!
    1. brigid
That's so touching. I think I may cry.

Poor doggy. And what a smart little boy.

In case you have not noticed, people are the animals at the top of the planetary food chain.

I'm a person! and that's absolutely fine to like people like me better than "conventional" people if you know what I mean. But in my case, I like "conventional" people better than people like me...

"Dogs never bite me. Just humans."
  24. irync
I know I love dogs better than some people.
  25. Rozie818
My trust goes to a animal before any human. You just can't trust humans.
  26. Rozie818
A few years ago the ASPCA had a commercial where a man came home from work in his business suit and was greeted by his puppy at the door. Bright eyed and tail wagging. The man went into his bedroom and started to change his cloths.
He put on a bra, a dress, makeup, lipstick etc. He stood and looked at his puppy The camera cut back to the puppy that was still bright eyed and tail wagging. And all was said is "They just don't care" unconditional and non bias love. Something man should adapt.

As a dog I have received several
    compliments just like this:
-- "He looks like a little person!"
From my perspective...What do you guys think
I like most? Humans or animals?
I like "animal lovers" (people) and dog lovers (animals:-)

    A good quote:
"He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds. He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea. He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason for being; by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.) When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant. His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to wait for me... whenever... wherever - in case I need him. And I expect I will - as I always have. He is just my dog." - Gene Hill

I always like people better than lower life forms there is never an issue for me, people always come first.
  29. drjay1966
Mark Twain said, “if you pick up a stray dog, feed him and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the primary difference between dog and man.”
  30. LauraBelle
Animals are less likely to hurt you.
  31. JaydenVasara
my soft spot is for animals...they don't talk back to you, they depend on you for everything, they're loyal, etc. (obviously there are exceptions, but for the most part) - but that's just me. people like angelina jolie obviously go the other way.
  32. satijournal
People can be tiring to be around. I've never felt that way about a dog. They're always cool. I think I'll take mine for a walk now to show my appreciation.
  33. dosyrosie
Animals all the way, haven't met an animal that has let me down, argued for no reason, insulted me! But I've met plenty of humans who've done those things. I think the problem is humans are cleverer than animals (for the most part) and because of that have a tendancy to do things for their own gain, even if it means being sneaky or underhand. Animals are straight down the line, what you see is what you get etc.. of course there are exceptions but as a generalisation.
  34. Bricore
I like both BUT I spend more time with my animals then I do people. We live where there isn't a lot of people and I have 11 dairy goats, a few horses, some high maintenance English angoras, and some chickens.
  35. hatingtherain
    people,definitely

    but i do like kitties
  36. m2urray
I've pretty much given up on the human race. Animals, on the other hand, are pure, instinctive and devoid of emotion and reason, they just "Do".
    1. hatingtherain
Animals are not devoid of emotion or reason. What makes you think that?
  37. m2urray
I am meaning that animals do not have emotion or reason to the same extent that us humans have and I am reminded of some reasearcher who said "Fish have Feelings"!
  38. jeremyjanson
Humans. Humans are much more interesting exactly because they don't always do what you want, and you can love them on a level deeper because of that, though horses do come close.
  39. selfstudy
humans are the highest form of animals....

i go for animals like human..:)
  40. amybyrd21
I like animals better most of the time. They generally act better, do not do thigs on purpose most of the time. They listen to you with out answering back. They are eaiser to take care of. They will love you no matter what you do.
