So why talk about "human rights" then? Human rights are universal. The Bill of Rights includes some that we might consider inherent to our humanity, but most of them predate the Enlightenment and Western principles of universality. (See the English Parliament's Declaration of Right in 1625 and the English Bill of Rights in 1689.)
The US, by the way, is also a signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. That doesn't mean your rights in this country are limited to it. It just means those are the rights upon which the representatives of humanity were able to agree everyone on the planet should possess. The right to own a gun does not rise to that level. Not even fierce gun rights proponents in our government are going around demanding that citizens everywhere in the world have the right to arm themselves. Could you imagine it?
And while your rhetoric suggests there is no point in debating the UN with you, I will point out that we helped create the UN for US political interests. That's why we fund it too. Anti-UN rhetoric and politics by the likes of former Senator Jesse Helms did this country a disservice. But not even Helms would be foolish enough to use the term dictator in the way you have here. -
Mark that is pure bovine byproduct. Are you saying that self-defense isn't a human right?
Edit:
"Not even fierce gun rights proponents in our government are going around demanding that citizens everywhere in the world have the right to arm themselves. Could you imagine it?"
Most of those individuals who support gun ownership that I know, do. I could care less about what members of the "Government" think. I think you're out of touch with those who believe that the Rights outlined in the Bill of Rights are Universal.
But I'll repeat the question. Do you believe you have a right to defend yourself and your family, or not?

None of my blogs are specifically focused on human rights.
But I do touch on the issues from time to time.
One, "Another War-on-Terror Blog" ( anotherwaronterrorblog.blogspot.com/ ), deals more often than the others. I'm not sure what you'd think of it, though.-
I added your blog URL to mine
and will be perfect if you can do same:

Human Rights Day - December 10, 2009
Objective:
Celebrate Human Rights Day and stand up with people all over the world who want to make human rights a reality for everyone.
Human Rights Day marks the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) adopted on December 10, 1948 that set down the basic principles at the very heart of the human rights movement. The UDHR has enabled remarkable progress in human rights, inspiring international human rights standards, laws and institutions that have improved the lives of many around the world.
The day is a high point in the calendar of United Nations and is normally marked by both high-level political conferences and meetings and by cultural events and exhibitions dealing with human rights issues. Many non-profit organizations and human rights activists also schedule special events to commemorate the day. Look out for events in your community!
