Thanks for your kind words Karen.

I will visit your blog regularly. I just read a useful article there yesterday.
  2. karenlim
    Wow, this is exciting

    Anyone else?
  3. mrsnesbitt
Can you explain karen? Above my head chuck.
    D
    1. karenlim
heh heh no problem. Detail explanations can be found on jphilips link above.

In my simple words, basically we did something to our wordpress self published blogs which disables some codes. It allows us to credit a backlink to readers who leave a comment with an address to their blog/site. It helps them in their technorati authority, PR ranking, etc.

But I'm not sure if you can do it on blogspot
    2. dharmagypsy7
You can I think Andy Beards has a blog post about it. He was really helpful when I was trying to join his community on Bumpzee..
  4. anujseth
I have disabled nofollow on my blog --> OnlinePresence.BlogSailor.com/

Err...there is a community on BumpZee on just this. It has over 200 blogs registered --> www.bumpzee.com/no-nofollow/
  5. karenlim
    Hey anujseth,

Thanks for the heads up, heading over to take a look
  6. jerrydrussell
All of my blogs use dofollow, It means wathcing the blog spam a lot more carefully, but it rewards people who take the time to comment, so I'm all for it
  7. karenlim
    Hey Jerry,

Glad to know you Yap, put in place 2 spam filters. So far so good for me .

    Cheers
    Karen
  8. iluvmonkeys2

I'm on D-List too (even though I had no idea what D-List until I just read this thread!):

Yep my blog diydollars.com is on the ol' D-List.
  14. karenlim
Yeah, more in the family. Do you guys get an increase in reader comments after you join D-list?
  15. dharmagypsy7
Jolly Green Girl is (I think; it might have gotten screwed up when I changed my template) and will be (got the plugin for wordpress) when I move to my new host.

  21. karenlim
Welcome Aldian and guniwan to the D-list family

Up to now, I'd mistakenly believed this applied only to Wordpress bloggers.

I found out how to turn off "no follow" on my Blogger at:

    webstractions.blogspot.com/2007/05/removing-nofollow-from-blogger-styled.ht...

I had no idea that it was the default.

Thanks for the heads up, everyone!

    incinq.blogspot.com

I turned off "no follow" for both comments and backlinks... was that right? On that tutorial page I mentioned above:

      "Optionally remove Nofollow from backlinks

By doing another search for nofollow in your expanded template, you will find another one for your backlinks. You can choose to delete this as outlined above -- or not.

If you do delete the reference, do at your own risk. Backlinks are outside of your control and cannot be moderated."

      Thoughts?
    2. gabotron
I think this is similar to "Trackbacks" in WordPress. Blogger just termed it "Backlinks".

In WordPress, we see our Trackbacks/Linkbacks/Backlinks in the comments section by default. In Blogger, there will be a "Links to this Post" hyperlink (like in Lisa's LES blog 40ssingleness-learnenglish.blogspot.com/). By default, Google doesn't follow the links from "Links to this Post".

I guess you don't have the Backlinks feature enabled on your blog (you only have n Reflected which represents the comments), so there should be no need to remove no-follow on them.
    3. incinq
      Thanks, gabotron.
  23. hughhollowell
I did it about a month ago on my Politically Incorrect Business Blog at

    www.hughhollowell.net/blog/

Thus far, we have had no real increase in spam, but a much larger than typical response in comments. Overall, it seems one of the best things I have done. (Even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then!)
  24. Morriconei
I took nofollow out of my blogger page last night. I'm still not sure whether I did it right or not.
  25. terrymundo
I had this off a long time ago and also have this set on my work blogs. But after updates, it seems I didn't turn the plugin back on. Duh! So I'm back on the D-List for both www.terrenceculkin.com and technicallyforeign.com/. Its just the right thing to do.
  26. terencechang
I have this off for a while ...

  27. legbamel
I am as of today! I had no idea that nofollow was the default setting at Blogger. I also joined Bumpzee and am going to post about it tomorrow. Thanks for the thread.
  28. francescomapelli
    I am a B list

I'm keeping the nofollow for comments...

I don't want too much spammy comments... but I have a Top Commentators box in my sidebar that is dofollowed, to rewards only the real active users, and I dofollow trackback and pingback... (so if you want to link back to one of my posts, you'll have some pr back! )

    noobie here.

i just turned it off, using a DoFollow plugin
but i haven't understand how it works

i mean, how do i know that it's properly working?

    -> snuggle.here.de
    1. karenlim
I just checked yours. It's working properly.

If you want to check if a site follows:

      1) Go to blogs comment page.
      2) View the source code for that page
      3) Find a name of a commenter, if they follow you will see the tag rel="external". If they do not follow, you will see the tag rel="nofollow" .

  30. 42media
I'm moving all of my blogs onto the D-list.

Now I'm just hoping my spammers don't come back in droves...
    1. AldianP
You can use some captcha plugin to help preventing bot comment spams.
I use it and it reduce many bot comment spams

See it in action in my blog aldianprakoso.com

Askimet and Spam Karma are also great plugins for spam preventing!
    2. karenlim
I use askimet by default, works great. So far 0 bot spamming or should I say, all caught by it
    3. terrymundo
for one of the blogs at work that I have on my servers, askimet catches about 500+ spams a month. I still have all posts needing approval unless user was previously approved.
  31. crispnet
    I'm in the D-list! I'm a support of "U Comment I Follow"

Check out my nice "U Comment I Follow" badge >>

Just removed No Follow from comments and backlinks! Thanks for the tips!
    1. AldianP
Remember to have Askimet or Spam Karma installed and activated
    2. crispnet
Yeah...without it your blog will be spam. My Akismet save me from work as it trapped more than 500 spams since i started my blog 2 and a half months ago.

  34. dharmagypsy7
Ok can someone help me? I have the plugin goodlinks which is suppose to strip away the nofollow but then when I looked at the page source like Karen recommended. I see that it's still on there.. can someone tell me if this is correct and if anyone uses the plugin... is there something else I need to do?
  35. dharmagypsy7
Ok I figured it out.. thanks JP... followed your article stumbled

Anyone have info about Spam-filters for blogger? I removed No follow and I'm afraid I'm going to be drowning in spam.
    1. dharmagypsy7
Do you have Wordpress? You can install Akismet not sure about other platforms... for blogger you might want to put all the comments into moderation until you approve or if someone has commented before; it will automatically show up then.

  39. AndyBeard
I should point out I don't accept every blog into the community over on Bumpzee. If I can't find comments that are being followed or some indication that a blog has nofollow removed, I just reject them, and wait for the owner to contact me if they need help in complying.

I get a real feel for the amount of hard work the guys at Blogcatalog go through in evaluating new bloggers.
  40. ianternet
on the do follow list but I had to remove my badge just incase of buyblogcomments - this movement is very strong in which we need to stop spaming and reward bloggers

    but one person disagrees

    www.ianfernando.com/2007/buy-blog-comments-a-dark-day-in-the-blogosphere/#c...

he seems to want buyblogcomments.com on blogs - its a big argument on this on this topic on my blog, support by puttin in your input about this and how this buyblogcomments.com will defintely be tolerated in the blogosphere

I just did this last week. I never knew I was no follow until recently as I don't know anything about all that stuff, and really don't care but I did install a plugin to follow, and even wrote a post about it last week

    wonderlandornot.net/2007/07/14/follow-me-i-am-paying-for-comments/

I have had only minor increase in spam and have had to delete only a couple of comments.
  42. marenda
Today I installed the plugin I suppose my next step is writing a post about the update
