The Open is quite interesting this year.
Woods failed to make the cut.
Harrington is failing to put up a fight to defend his title.
Watson at 59 is flying, and he is 5 under at the time of writing this.
Beautiful setting at Turnberry on the Firth of Clyde.
Lovely weather (at 3pm GMT on Saturday).
Who would want to miss it?

i haven't been watching it on TV... but have been following the open in the news. Tiger Woods not making the cut was shocking. And i wonder what 'the golden bear' has to say about Watson leading the field at age 59?

TURNBERRY, Scotland — Jack Nicklaus has entered the age of text messaging. Well, sort of.

Truth is, he composed the message, but relied on his wife, Barbara, to forward it to Tom Watson, minutes after he watched his longtime friend birdie the 16th and 17th holes to seize a one-stroke lead through three rounds of the 138th British Open.

“Like everybody else,” Nicklaus said in a story posted on his Web site, “I had some tears in my eyes.”

Nicklaus, who was on the short end to Watson in arguably the greatest head-to-head duel in major championship history, the famed “Duel in the Sun” here at Turnberry in 1977, said he watched most of the front nine and all of the back nine once Watson took to the course. “I did manage to play some tennis before it and in between some holes.”

He would not reveal what the text message said (”That is something between the two of us,” he wrote), but Nicklaus offered his thoughts on the fourth round.

“I think (Watson) will deal with it fine. Whether or not he wins, it doesn’t make a difference. What he has accomplished already is a phenomenal achievement. I just really hope he wins.”

It was quite fitting in a way that yesterday Watson was partnered by Mannasero, the 16 year old amateur from Italy, youngest player on the golf course, who has already guaranteed himself the Silver Medal.

No, I'm instead getting my asterik kicked playing tiger woods 2010.

You got 2010?Crap...I'm still stuck on 2009...time to get an upgrade.
    2. dbowles1017
Yeah dude get with it! NCAA football 2010 is out too. Madden comes out next month.
    3. runningshoes
Wish i had the moolah to buy the damn games man!Is the tiger woods 2010 good? coz Id rather save the cash for madden..
    4. dbowles1017
The only real difference is putting. There's a new system. It's kind of easier, but I'm just sucking it up right now.
    5. runningshoes
I thin Il stick with saving the cash then.....Am not much of tiger woods(the game) fan anyway....Need for speed-shift is coming out in september...cant wait for that one!

Currently there's a 3-way tie at the top, with Matt Goggin, Lee Westwood, and Tom Watson all on 3 under par.

Westwood was well fancied before the Championship began, and is probably the strongest of the home contenders.

Goggin is from Tasmania. He resides in South Carolina.

If Watson pulls this off, it won't be a fluke. Leading after 4 rounds means he was the best damn player out there regardless of age.

Play finished a few minutes ago, with Watson in the clubhouse as the outright leader. An incredible story.

Glad Tiger missed the cut ... but, hated to see Weir at +5, as well. It would be a wonderful story is Watson could win.

Just wish they'd stop harping on the fact he's 59. I've played with 70+ year olds that can still shoot around par from the tips ...

@Rory: Just wish they'd stop harping on the fact he's 59

The media, especially in England, is obsessed with age.

If he pulls this off (I hope to God he does), it will rank up there as one of the greatest achievements in the history of golf, perhaps only eclipsed by Tiger winning the US Open two years ago with a fractured leg.

Turnberry has been the equalizer, as the Open courses so many times are. The style of play required to win an Open is simply different from any other major.

I'm looking forward to Watson winning. That'll be one helluva story.

Over here, we have mixed feelings about it. We love Tom Watson, but we would still be overjoyed to see Fisher or Westwood win it, and have an English champion.

The leader board first page are starting to go out now. There are some players among those who are 4 or 5 shots back making serious challenges. There have been a number of birdies and eagles already today, and one albatross.

Tom Watson is coming out now to the first tee.
There are birdies and eagles flying in all over the place.
Ernie Els and Chris Wood both just got eagles to go back to par for the tournament.

Watson has dropped a shot, and now Fisher has leapfrogged into an outright lead at -5
