Well, I'm very interested in the Japanese culture and would love to go there one day! I blame my uncle for this haha. I love their drawing techniques and all the hidden meanings in their behavior. It's an interesting country.

You got a nice blog with nice drawings! you could be an anime artist then I got some anime-related posts too on mine, thanks

Thanks for visiting! Yeah, my uncle inspired me to get into anime! He is such an excellent illustrator! Too bad, he doesn't draw that much lately
  2. footiam
Yes. Interested in all cultures in fact.
  3. nothingprofound
Yes, I'm interested in all aspects of Japanese/Korean culture especially their manners, art and poetry.

Hi NP!! Have you ever been there?
    2. nothingprofound
TJ-never been. But many of my close friends over the years have been Japanese. I've always felt a real kinship with Eastern philosophy. I love Japanese film and I studied Karate with a Japanese master for many years.
    3. Rashai
NP: Are you doing 'Haiku' too?
    4. nothingprofound
Rashai-I write aphorisms, which are a kind of Western haiku. They combine my philosophical interests with my love of poetry.
    5. TJlubrano
@ NP: That's really cool or should I say Sugoi!! Karate huh? Interesting! Do you have a black belt? Is that called a Dan grade? *makes a mental note not to stalk too close*
    6. nothingprofound
TJ-I never officially got my black belt, but I had all the black belt skills. I've always hated grades and ranks and categories, so I insisted on wearing a white belt all the time. So I could be an eternal beginner. I'm weird.
    7. TJlubrano
That is very cool! and for the record, I don't think your weird :). You're are following your own rules and have your own mindset on how things should be. I think that by giving a rank or grade to something,it automatically creates groups and levels of power. The idea of being an eternal beginner sounds very interesting. It gives me the feeling that as an eternal beginner you're open minded and eager to learn new things. That even though you have the highest possible 'rank', you still can learn from others.

Thanks all for the replies, I do love their culture and art (especially anime and movie) with all of its adorable quirkiness, not to mention their healthy yet yummy food! I got two blogs for each passion (Japan & Korean), please stop by when you have time.
    Cheers..

Anin-name your three or four or five favorite Japanese films.
    2. aningeniousname
      In no particular order:
      Sonatine
      Yojimbo
      Seppuku
      Violent cop
      Rashomon
    3. Rashai
You both are anime maniacs, aren't you?
  7. nothingprofound
    Mine are:
    Woman in the Dunes
    Ikiru
    Twenty four eyes
    The Tokyo story
    Ugetsu

Have you seen Sanjuro, the sequel to Yojimbo. It's also great.
    1. aningeniousname
Is Tokyo story the Ozu film? I think I have seen that. Ikiru is good too. I haven't seen Sanjuro I didn't even know there was a sequel I will keep my eyes peeled for that one.
  8. nothingprofound
Yes, Tokyo story is Ozu. I love all his films. Kurosawa's too. "The Burmese Harp" is another great Japanese film. I'm more familiar with old Japanese cinema than new.

Based on your other favorites, I think you might like "Harakiri." Or is that the same as Seppuku?
    1. aningeniousname
I don't know if "Harakiri" is an alternate title for "Seppuku" but it's by Koybayashi and if you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. It is one of the best films I have ever seen and Koybayashi is more highly regarded in Japan than Kurosawa is.
I will look out for "Burmese harp"
    2. nothingprofound
Yep, same film. One of my favorites. I'll never forget the intensity on the main actor's face. I love Kobayashi and Mizoguchi too.
    3. aningeniousname
What has Mizoguchi done? I don't think I have heard of him before.
    4. aningeniousname
      Wrong spot!
  9. nothingprofound
Ugetsu-in my opinion one of the greatest films ever made

    Sansho the Baliff-another great film

    Street of Shame

    Osaka Elegy
    1. aningeniousname
Ahhh I have seen Sansho the bailiff but for some reason I thought it was Koybayashi.
      Have you seen Kitano's dolls?
  10. nothingprofound
No. Kitano's dolls-is that the name of a movie?
    1. aningeniousname
The film is called "Dolls" and it's by Takeshi Kitano
      www.imdb.com/title/tt0330229/
      Very interesting film.

      Right spot at last!
