Anyone Transfer from Blogger to Wordpress?

So, I read that since Google owns Blogger, if it gets rid of the service Blogs hosted on Blogger will be lost forever and while there is truth to that, I wish that maybe I had started me blog on another platform.
Now, it's going to be difficult to transfer my blog because if I do that now, all of my incoming links and subscribers and PR ranking would be gone, wouldn't they?
It would be nice if Google just added a premium service where some Blogger hosted blogs can have the option to pay for an upgraded service that would not be removed if Google ever got rid of the Free Blogger hosting service.
Has anyone ever transferred a blog to wordpress or another blog hosting service?
What was the experience like, and did you loose your Page rank, links and subscribers?
Is there a way to keep my links, PR and Subscribers?

Yes, if you export your blog contents out of a blogspot blog and into a wordpress.com blog the links to the posts on the blogspot sub-domain will be broken and the new blog will have to establish a PageRank starting from zero. In addition, as you cannot hotlink to any images you had in your blogspot posts hosted on the Blogger servers you will have to upload them all into the wordpress.com servers. However, I don't believe you will necessarily lose all your subscribers.

No, I'm sorry there isn't. However, it's my experience that if you have faithful readers you will be able to establish PageRank for the new blog within about 4 - 6 months.-
Wouldn't it be possible to buy the domain name still hosting it on Blogger and then later move it, keeping the PR and everything in tact?
I thought I remember someone saying that when you buy your domain name and list it on Blogger, they will transfer all information to the new domain name (if you are using Blogger still), then when you switch to Wordpress, that information will all still be viable.
Of course, if you are using the free hosted Wordpress and Blogger that won't work but I honestly think it is much better for people to purchase their own domain (if they can, of course). -

Because the member asking this question did not mention purchasing a domain and paying for domain mapping I didn't cover that aspect. I assumed what was being asked about was a straight free hosted blog import from a blogspot subdomain to a free hosted subdomain on wordpress.com and provided the answer for that scenario only.
This can become complex because there are two wordpress options and we don't have enough information from the member who posted this with regard to issues like domains, domain mapping, does he/she want to be able to advertise, etc.

wordpress.com is a free hosted multiuser blogging platform and you domain mapping from wordpress.com support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/
Question: I own domain.com, can I map that to my wordpress.com blog?
Answer: Yes!
Important Notes:
* If your domain registrar needs action from us before they will change the DNS, please get in touch with all details.
* Since every registrar is different, we cannot advise on how to change your nameservers. We recommend that you search your registrar’s help/support article base.
* Mapped blogs are still subject to the wordpress.com Terms of Service. en.wordpress.com/tos/
* Purchasing the wordpress.com Domain Mapping upgrade does NOT give you the permission to use advertising, post any kind of prohibited code, or upload any themes or plugins.
* You will NOT have FTP access to your blog. If you want this, you should head on over wordpress.org

Hello I will do that myself in the future and will explain how to do the stuff.
For the moment you can at least add your own domain to your blogger spot so that people will get accustomed to yourlo new domain and get all your blogspot url redirected to this domain.

So, let me find out if I have this straight:
If I get my own domain name and use it on my Blogger blog for a month or so and then transfer the blog to Wordpress, I can keep my links? OR is it the subscribers that I keep? Will I have to change the URL in feedburner or will that automatically redirect from my Self Hosted domain (Example: www.myblog.com)? -
Also,
I read on another forum that "301 perma redirection" will preserve a blog's page rank and tell google or other search engines that the blog has moved to a new place and all traffic will be directed to the new blog.
Is anyone familiar with this "301 perma redirection" that was mentioned by a blogger? -
timethief,
Yes, I want to be able to use advertisements on my blog, and Plugins, the whole nine.
I read a while back that there were two versions of Wordpress and one does not allow bloggers to use advertisements like Google Adsense or Kontera, etc. and I don't want that version then.
I am alright with using a paid version. I just want to be able to maintain my page rank and links or at least keep my subscribers. -

There is NO PAID version of wordpress software. It is open source software. What you pay for is web hosting and who you pay it to is the web host of your choice.
The free hosted version is a separate company called Automattic that has a project called "wordpress.com" which is using wpMU (multiuser) software.
The self hosted version is free open source software that you can download from wordpress.org and then hire a web hosting service for.
This post explains how the two differ: wordpress.com and wordpress.org: the differences

How and why to get your own domain
onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/06/26/how-and-why-to-get-your-own-domain/
If you want advertising on your blog then none of the wordpress.com domain mapping option information I typed into my second comment above will apply to you.
(1) You will get your free software from wordpress.org
(2) You will have to hire a web host of your choice (these web hosts are recommended wordpress.org/hosting )
(3) These videos will be helpful when it comes to setting up.

(4) And thereafter you will have to post to the member manned forum at wordpress.org/support for all technical support.
(5) Blogger 301 redirects

Hope this helps. Happy blogging

You can pay for certain features in wordpress.com, such as the ability to customize the CSS. I just use the free version.

I was very happy switching from Blogger to hosted Word Press. I made the switch before I had accumulated much page rank, so that was not a big issue for me. I imported the blogger blog into WP, then went back and edited each post leaving only a book cover image and a link to the post on the new site, so I don't think I lost any visitors.
It is a big project, but well worth doing if you are serious about blogging. -
Instead of exporintg and importing use wordpress blog conversion tool in self hosted service. and apply URL redirection in blogspot. so every incoming links in your Blog spot will get redirected to your own domain.
With this you can save incoming links for your domain name alone. If you use the same permalinks (type) it will ease out your work. images will be host linked. -

When you say "wordpress" do you mean free hosted wordpress.com?
Exporting wordpress blog contents
There is an import and export function for this purpose in your dashboard
-> Dashboard -> Tools -> Export -> WordPress
(1) You can export the contents of one blog (posts, comments, pages, sub-pages, categories) in the form of an xml file to your desktop and, then you can import the xml file into the another blog site.
When you click the button WordPress will create an XML file for you to save to your computer. This format, which we call WordPress eXtended RSS or WXR, will contain your posts, comments, custom fields, and categories.
(2) The blogroll links must be separately exported.
If you had links, you can export them out at mydomain.com/wp-links-opml.php (You must change “my domain” to your own subdomain's url, of course.) Open that exported blogroll (links) xml file in a plain text editor like NotePad and save as a *.txt file. The blogroll (links) xml file needs to be saved as a *.txt doc in a plain text editor like Notepad. This is because if you were to save it as a text rich text document using for example Microsoft Wordpad or Word (horrors!) those programs would add in all kinds of garbage like fonts and unusual html formatting code that mess will it up for what we’re doing here.
In your new Blogger blog look for the importing function. -

Indeed it does seem counter intuitive doesn't it? There are a number of bloggers who automatically assume they can advertise on free hosted wordpress.com blogs. They do not read the TOS (section 2 - 5th bullet down) which states a wordpress.com blog cannot be used to drive traffic to third party sites). They do not read the FAQs. They get a free hosted wordpress.com blog and then discover they can't have Adsense or any advertising at all. They either discover this by put up advertising, getting reported and having Automattic staff tell them to remove it. Or they appear in the support forum asking volunteers how to insert Adsense ads. I'm assuming this is the case here.
