I'm currently in the process of writing a short story and a novel.

One is about estranged sisters. One of them dies and the other one finds out her sister was a lesbian.

The other is about the power of friendship and how it can transcend time, continents and the internet.

So anyone else writing a book? What genre? What's it about? Participating in NaNoWriMo?

I'm writing a fantasy [short?] story about a corrupt theocracy persecuting a society of magic users... and that's just the first two chapters. The rest of the story focuses on inter-universe travel and the quest for Akashah-- the plane of pure magic. I eventually plan to turn the story into an Action RPG if I don't feel up to writing the whole thing.

      I'd like to read it.

I like the concept of your story. I would definitely read it.

I have about three in progress right now - but the main focus is the sequel to the one I just published - Sci-Fi/Fantasy.
I'm going to take a stab at NaNWriMo though - so I'm going to backlog my current projects for that one. The premise goes a little like:

"Kamella Attari and Rose Thorne, expatriates of the Guild of Assassins try to restore their estranged relationship amidst the chaos of intergalactic war. Their ship, the Rembrandt becomes host to the Nyacene, supposed priestess of an ancient warrior cult."

It doesn't make much sense at first glance - but it's the final installment of a Sci-Fi trilogy that I've been toying with on and off for a while now.

I have just finished proof reading my first novel. For some technical constraints i cannot reveal the story here but i must say it is a fiction. A story of a girl from her 15th year till her end. Her tryst with destinies and the forces of the world at large. It has got every thing from sex to seduction, politics to prostitution and finally the end. A story based totally in rural background without any cell phone and modern day dating.

At present i am writing a proposal for the same and exploring the possibilities of publication.

    Thanks

I am toying with the idea of doing NaNoWriMo next month, but I haven't decided on the themes yet. I am thinking drama, some love triangle of 1940's or something.

    My current active writing projects:

I just started writing the the fourth book in a series while waiting for my editor to read through the line edits of book one and my agent to give me back two.

The first two books concern mainly werewolves trying to keep the secret of theirs and the rest of the preternatural existence secret from humans. Book three concerns the human world trying to come to terms with the fact that werewolves, other lycanthropes and the rest of the fey have existed side by side with them for far longer than there have been stories about them. Books 4 and 5 deal with the power struggle among the preternatural community now that they can do it and don't have to worry about being found out. Book 6 which I have tenative approval for will be what happens when the vamps are found out, both to the vamps and to the other preternaturals who failed to make their existence known.

The second series I am writing is a sci-fi series that has sent a fair sized chunk of Ohio centered around Dayton back in time to 5600 BC and shifted its location to an area that will be quickly covered by a historic flooding of the Black Sea. I am working on a series of short stories involving this setting at the moment.

The same event that sent that group back has spawned 5 more series involving the event. Each has between 1 and 3 completed cooks with at least one in the works

I have another series set in 2025. Dimensional gates start appearing on earth leading to other worlds in 2012. After 13 years of shifting people out and setting up business ventures on these planets the gates suddenly close. I have 2 book series in this each one dealing with a group of teenagers who got cut off from the world. The one aimed at teenage guys has a young teen geek whose family owned the world suddenly in charge of 25,000 on the planet. The second series is aimed at teen girls. The protagonist, a 15 year old girl struggles to find her place in this new world and deal with all sorts of other modern teen girl issues when you are forced to live with almost no modern convienences. I have a third book in this series aimed at adults and it deals with the aftermath of the situation on earth.

The last book that is getting any regularly scheduled writing time also deals with humans and preternaturals in a more open arrangement. It is sort of like Sunnydale where people experience all sorts of weird things but try and rationalize it out as being part of their imagination. In this series Faerie the land of the fey is the place all humans go to when they dream. In essence we dreamed the fey and foul alike into existence and they found a way to walk out of that world into ours. It is also how gods and goddesses came to be. There are some humans though that know all or parts of this and some of them live in both worlds.

I've been attempting to write a book for a while now. It's a fantasy/adventure type book revolving around the central character of a goddess who has to redeem herself for committing crimes that she was forced to commit as an impressionable child. It also goes into detail about her friends and twin sister.

I have three novels in progress right now. I'm trying to decide which one to aim to finish during November--although I'm not officially participating in NaNo it often motivates me to finish books just because there's so much buzz going on, and I'm trading in a 100-hour-a-week job for a 40-hour one in November, so I expect to finally have some time to write again.

i'm currently writing a non-fictional book on "Relationship Issues of Adolescents and Young Adults" ... its going to be purely a Psychology book meant for the general audience and will be an attempt to spread awareness about some of the relationship issues of the youth; relationships that are outside the family.

I'm rewriting the second draft of a humorous science-fantasy story.

It's great to be able to dig into it again. Blogging, I believe, has helped me a lot, in this respect. I'm much more directed and focused in my scenes.
  20. melindaville
I just completed the rough draft of my memoir (working title is Lost and Found: A Journey) about my experiences as a former actor, punk rock musician, sex industry worker, heroin addict and my fifteen year journey of recovery. It's great if I do say so myself! (Lol--just kidding--I am just now starting to read the rough draft!).

      Hi Melinda,
Are you doing your own editing? Fun isn't it? I'm back for a little while on BC, taking a refresher before heading back to the sequel.

  24. aningeniousname
I'm writing a novel about a handsome yet brilliant lavender Aardvark called Anin who discovers that the ark of the covenant is buried under the constantly shifting Nazi controlled Egyptian sands.
It is then a race against time, love and the fiendish Nazi hordes to find the long lost ark of Moses and put it in a big warehouse on the M62 just outside Keighley.
I call it "Anin Smith and The Raiders of the lost Aardv-ark"
    1. legbamel
You know, I think Hollywood would be interested in developing a script for that.
    2. aningeniousname
You would think so wouldn't you! I sent it to Stephen Speilberg years ago but I never heard anything back at all.
  25. legbamel
I've been fiddling with a novel for two years, but rarely sit down and really work at it. I've been considering and researching it for even longer than that. It's about secret survivalists and the zomb-pocalypse (although that's a stupid word and I'd never use it in the book itself except as a joke): how they planned, how they survive, and what happens after the zombies have consumed all their "food".

I've written thousands of aphorisms over the last few years, which I've never shown or shared with anyone. I just starting posting some of them to various web sites on the net, and have gotten a pretty good response. I'm trying to make a little book out of them, which I'll probably self-publish and send to close friends. Aphorisms are probably the least marketable genre of writing, and I'm sure that's why I chose them. I'm suspicious of all thoughts , beliefs and opinions, of speech and writing in general, and the aphorism is the closest I can come to saying nothing while still saying "something."

I am finishing my second book of nonfiction for the publisher of my first book (links are on my website www.gaylepritchardart.com). I am writing a biography of an amazing artist, Susan Shie, and can't wait until it's finished.

I've written a few book length posts before. Two are over 100 pages long, so I guess those could count as books : )

I haven't tried to write any novels or anything, but I did start a book on self defense for the physically challenged, but never finished it. The "books" I did write, they were rebuttals to books written by christian apologists.
  31. royiszoso
I'm writing a collection of short stories based on the theme :"Eastern Dreams, Western Obsessions"...It's about how the east (specifically India) views the west and people from the west...like the west over-exotifies the east, so does the east over-exotifies the west...I've finished writing a few of them (Golden Forests, The Hermit, The Soofganiots, Katyusha, The First Meeting)...I also tried experimenting with my voice and wrote a story titled Cow Country, but I thought it was too bizarre so I didn't put it up on my blog (blingblingauschwitz.blogspot.com)

Such a question should never be asked. I'm working on two completely different concepts right now, building backstory and history for my worlds.

One is the story of a changeling from another world, brought to Earth to restore her people and save her home.

One is the story of a genetic construct after an interstellar battle takes place in Earth's skies. Who are the Enhanced and where do they come from?

I've recently released a book about a brand new way to analyse your life called "Life Cycles". It has dual Finalist Awards USA Book News and many positive reviews. It is different to astrology and numerology because it is based on biographical evidence. It has it's own terms and icons. My blog is usually about current affairs stories that prove the evidence is everywhere. My post is on the internet singing sensation Susan Boyle,

    Neil.

I just started another murder mystery and the main character is also a writer. Got tired of using the same character in my books. Do any of you use your own name or do you use a pseudonym? I have found it is better to not use your name if you are a female, especially when your books are not girlish or pertain mostly to women.
    1. shankha72113
Write with a pseudonym. That helps you write with all your imaginations. You may establish a character which will be famous in future. Wish you all the best. :-)

Just finished my historical novel and it is with the Publisher. Working on the sequel. It was an inspiring project and the writing part brought on a mixture of emotions. I hope you're having fun with your novel!

I've written several things in varying genres. At present I am at the final editing stage of book one of a 3 book Fantasy Adventure novel that I hope to send to a publisher in the next couple of months. It's filled with magic, scary monsters, benevolent beings, sweet fairy-like creatures and young people on a journey of discovery. Oh, and Death plays a major role. But what is key to 'Death' is that he is a character simply doing his job.

Another book that I've written is 1000 miles away from the fantasy story. It's a no holds barred advice book for men in their 40s (though anyone with gumption is more than welcomed to read it). I've been told it's sort of like Dennis Miller meets George Carlin meets Erma Bombeck. And it's one of those things that, if published, will have an 'explicit language' warning on the cover.

I've also written a few 'tragi-mances', tales of love that deal with real life struggles. There are no foreign princes who find romance in the smiles of the young virginal women who enter their lives quite by accident.

And last but not least is my blog. I've had a few people suggest to me that I compile my musings into a book (or books as there are recurring themes in the blog). I am seriously considering that avenue.

My blog whenasouthernwomanrambles.blogspot.com/ is essentially a humorous blog filled with a variety of things: my thoughts on people/things I've encountered, a series I call 'Six Degrees of Historically Significant Separation' (I taught history for 12 years), and a few bits called 'Tragic Tales of Beauty'.

Yes, my writing style is sort of 'all over the place' BUT I always make sure to keep myself 'in the zone' when I'm writing...whatever zone it may be!

Please feel free to stop by for a minute!
  38. cliff1974
I've written a science fiction novella with time travel as its theme called "Out of Time." My newest novel is science fiction, called "Don't Mess With Earth" which is a mix of sci-fi, fantasy, alternate history. I'm currently working on a sequel to this novel, plus eventually re-writing "Out of Time" and writing a fiction novel tha isn't sci-fi.

    @electricmermaid

Your novel sounds very interesting! I'm also working on a contemporary novel that dives into the depths of relationships. Mine is centered around a tragedy that hits a small town in Missouri, devastating the unbreakable bonds of family and friendship for two young girls.

If interested, you can read updates and other fiction on my blog: slice-of-fiction.blogspot.com. I look forward to hearing more about your piece in the works!
