Do you believe America's best days are in the past, or do you believe her best days lie ahead? (It will be interesting to see how your answers in this very unofficial poll compare with a similar poll by Rasmussen!)

I believe if America doesn't make changes soon, the whole country is going to end up in the pisser.

Depends upon the Americans and whether they preserve what is great about America or not.

Wow! And we posted at almost the exact same time!

Best days are always in the past. When we were young. And hearing the stories our grandparents told of when they were young.

I suppose it depends on what you consider what it's best days are or
Who decides this "preserve what is great about America" as jeremyjanson stated. The United States like all countries has a history of good and bad. I think "America" has a lot of influence and power and needs to be very careful as to how that influence and power is used.

Yes I do. I think America has "burned too many bridges". Just a little Canadian perspective

I beleive they are yet to come...

"May it be to the world, what I believe it will be, (to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all,) the signal of arousing men to burst the chains under which monkish ignorance and superstition had persuaded them to bind themselves, and to assume the blessings and security of self-government. All eyes are opened, or opening, to the rights of man. The general spread of the light of science has already laid open to every view the palpable truth, that the mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately, by the grace of God."--Thomas Jefferson (to Roger C. Weightman, June 24, 1826)

Ohhhh I liked that, but it wasn't written today

The question better asked is: Are YOUR best days in the past? America like any country will go thru ups and downs throughout history. If it looks down now, of what avail if it bounces after you are dead

I fear America’s best days are behind us. Our standard of living is on a permanent decline, has been for a while. Only now our decline is accelerating. Why?

Look at the new emerging world powers…China, Asia and India. What do these nations do? They favor their own economies and populations! America shows favoritism towards these nations too, instead of our own. And why? Because favoring other economies over our own makes rich Americans richer. And the rest of us poorer. Oh well! That is the price of consumerism.

Yes, unless some of my advice is taken serious and changes made.

America's best days are well behind it. But then again, the whole damned world's best days are well be behind it. Give me 1957 (or 1597 for that matter.)

i hope the best days aren't in the past, but i think a lot of people need to open their eyes and not be so prejudiced against EVERYTHING that's different from them... i grew up in a predominantly white, upper-middle class town (and moved away after i graduated from HS) but so many people i grew up with are extremely closed minded... for example, a large majority of them have posted things on facebook since the shooting at ft hood this afternoon saying that muslim people shouldn't be allowed in the army because they're all terrorists, and that obama hired the shooter himself...

too many people think things like this (at least where i'm from) and if it doesn't change, no one's going to survive...

Certainly the wealth and credit stupidity is past. I do think that we end up a poorer nation, but that won't be all bad if we find something other that consumerism to celebrate.

this generation is simply paying the bill for the last's bubble party. We may as well accept the duty and promise our children that we won't do the same
    2. jeremyjanson
I'm not entirely sure that's true. Nanotechnology may show a way out for that.
    3. Agit8r
cool! maybe we can create a nanotech bubble to screw our kids over with
    4. jeremyjanson
Technology bubbles are not usually as severe as credit bubbles (like the war tech bubble in 1991 and the dot com bubble in 2000) because they at least produce a useful product and thus a potential for using all this junk.
