It seems like everyone have been starting contests now and I'm sure you guys know of this if you keep track of the blogs in the blogosphere or Entrecard. Entrecard is the main reason all these contests are popping up, but bloggers are mainly giving away entre credits for subscribers and for visitors. In return, the bloggers that start the contests aren't really getting much in return.
I hope that got your interest because if it did, please read the full post here:

What I did was also experiment a bit and I embedded my last entrecard contest at the end of the post. With no doubt, the contest didn't get as much attention as if it was out as ONE post on the main page. What do you guys think about this?

That is absolutely not the case in my opinion. People will enter a competition, only if they wish to. I am also not so sure that they are really competitions - but rather they are challeges where the blogger sets out a small exercise.
I have seen (and occasionally participated) in some great challenges, from decoding a series of cryptic messages to the recent fabulous photo editing challenge from ChicaX.
Using ChicaX's challenge as an example - It is a very simple exercise that allows bloggers to have a go at being creative with a pre-selected photograph. The essential ingredient was that Chica stipulated that any blogger who wanted to take up the challenge also had to post how they edited the photograph (not just simply displaying their edited image). Thus allowing people to exhibit their creativity and share their knowledge & tips of what is actually quite a complicated piece of software
This simple theme has given an enormous number of people a lot of fun this week - and it is that element of fun that people look for in a post. The Entrecard is simply a little way of showing her appreciation of their collective efforts.
So I guess my answer to the questions is that as long as the competition/challenge has an element of enjoyment then it is not "one too many". However, I do agree that the blogging world must not become saturated with mindless challanges that have no meaning or creative worth.
Thanks for posting an interesting discussion point and have a wonderful weekend
