That's an interesting question! I think lots of people are offended by the completely wrong things. Some people are more offended by words than by actions, for example.
  2. wandadog13
    I resent that question (lol)

Seriously, modern life is the problem - everything at break-neck speed - people have no time for each other let alone other people... it all gets too much I think.
  3. robinj
I think people are more conscious of what they will or will not accept and rather than sit back and let people cross their boundaries they are speaking up.

A quick google search on these words:

    offend - 13,700,000 results
    offended - 21,300,000 results

    Houston, we have a problem.
    1. clioandme
How do those numbers by themselves add up to a problem? They're just numbers with no context.
    2. acousticguitarist
houston, we have bigger problems than that

I can't breathe wrong on people around me. They fly off the handle. NY thing maybe.
    1. offendedblogger
heh maybe you need to change the brand of your mouthwash mike

and that answer begs the question, is there a right way to breathe on people???
  6. Rich
Yes, I think they are easily offended. They are quick to take action, especially online, without ever considering intent ad sometimes failing to see the difference between cynicism and criticism is vast.
  7. suburbqueen
A lot of people are absolutely too easily offended and usually go on tangents without taking the whole situation in...it's often these people who end up with their foot in their mouth.
  8. BlogBadly
Hey, I don't appreciate you snooping around into MY BELIEFS AND OPINIONS ON THIS TOPIC. That offends me! Gosh!

But, seriously, I guess so. Some things that I hear people get angry about just seem like nothing to me.
  9. techfun
yes - at the same time, many people also seem to be more prone to just blurting out whatever comes into their head. Tact and civility seem to be losing ground amount young adults I deal with.

Many folks seem to think that as long as they preface it with "no offense but..." they can say bit of crap they want and peope should not react negatively.

People are easily offended when there is money to be made from suing the bugger with the foul mouth.
    1. offendedblogger
Isn't that the truth. Last week I blogged about a Turkish lawyer who is suing an Italian soccer team because their new jersey offended him ~ they have a big red cross on them.

Yes, the Italians are reviving the crusades... using soccer guys, who friggen knew??
  11. lordsomber
Yes they are. And what's worse is that they go looking for offense. Basta!
    1. Rich
Exactly that. It's so easy to find what you look for too.
  12. Merlyn73
Well it HAS gotten so bad that laws are being made to prevent people from being offended. And that is the big question, where does the line between the right of free speech and and the right not to be offended go? And which is more important. I think I can be offended and go about my day afterwards, but take away my right to free speech and it's a different ball of wax.

Maybe a free society should have a disclaimer at the beginning of its constitution like they have at the beginning of a South Park episode.
    1. offendedblogger
Merlyn gets my "Offender of the Moment" award for that comment.

People are way too offended. That's why I started blogging about it. I don't like everything I hear, read, or see but I am a rabid defender of the 1st amendment.
    2. lordsomber
Erm... there is no right not to be offended.

You'd be hard pressed to offend me, but we are waaaaaaaaay to easily offended as a species.

    People ARE offended to easily.
  16. zawadi
i think most bloggers are FAKE lol.... they can't speak what they feel because they are so afraid of hurting someone's feelings, so they write around a topic skippin like a fool.

I hate that really.... People are too sensitive, because they need a good kick in the backside and they will toughen up lol

hugs I do cry easily, but im a fighter and come back swingin

It's hard to be nostalgic when you can't remember anything. But, with strain, I seem to vaguely recall a life more easily navigable--before political correctness.

Easy way to circumvent: Simply shout, death to all fanatics, and go from there. As it's said, if life were fair, Elvis would still be alive and all the impersonators would be dead.
  18. cooper
in general posting specifically to offend has no purpose, but people do tend to get offended when they ask a question and one give an answer which they don't like. I tend to let the chips fall personally as if one has to tippy toe around life not really saying what I see as truth then their really is no point now is there.

Tis an ode to the avatar of offended blogger

Oh I forgot BRAS and GIRLS.
    3. offendedblogger
hahaha right on! Father Jack was yesterday, I have his "FECK OFF CUP" video in my sidebar...God I love that old drunk.

Today I am "Can I borrow the car, Eddie?" haha

People who don't know who Father Jack is are SERIOUSLY missing out!

I think there are many people working on using PC (politically correct) terminologies, but they don't really think about why. I think sensitivity is hard to come by these days.
  21. clioandme
There are too sides to your question. One talks about "too offended," and I am seeing responses to that. The other talks about "these days." What kind of comparisons are you trying to make? These days as opposed to when?

Two historical examples: Have you had a look at the aristocratic society presented in Stanley Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon"? Or how about the people in the French movie, "Ridicule", which portrays life at Versailes before the French Revolution? Perhaps you could offer something more recent and more relevant to people on this forum?
  22. Stinkypaw
For certain things people are over sensitive and for other things it's almost as if we are desensitize or something...
    1. offendedblogger
It isn't just here either, I sort through thousands of global offenses a day some days.

It is like a plague sweeping the world....

(That's right, I have no life haha)
  23. WilDip
Yes. Simple answer to a simple question.
  24. paulyn
I guess so. Some people are too easily offended by anything. Guess it might just be all about stress.
    1. offendedblogger
I think you are right, Paulyn. The more stressed someone is, the easier it is for them to be offended. On the other end of the spectrum, the less stressed you are, the easier it is to be offensive haha...
  25. Descartes
Interesting question, yeah, people are way too easily offended. I was just kicked of Newsvine
yesterday for offending the good people of that social network.
It wasn't even for dropping links to my blog in the comments.
    1. offendedblogger
Well what were you thinking hanging out there? Those guys wear Dora the Explorer pullups still, sheesh!

Everything makes them whine and cry. *rolling eyes*

Haha, actually never been there but I imagine that's the case.

Check out my Blog regarding "Political Correctness".
We can no longer communicate because everyone finds something offensive.
    1. offendedblogger
      I renamed Political Correctness "FOO".

      Fear of Offending.

It seemed more fitting, for some reason.

      I pity the FOO's.
  27. nibbie03
I think people enjoy being offended (a little)...
    1. offendedblogger
I know I enjoy it. I can't go a day without allowing myself that little pleasure.
  28. garydenness
Yup, some people are too easily offended. But some peeps out there are too quick to offend - free speech is an (political) ideal that is best used and not abused. Should people have the right to offend? It's tricky. Everyone should have the right to state what they believe, though others may disagree with it. It may offend some, but it shouldn't be written with that intention in the first place.
  29. kdawg68
god yes they are. Folks need to grow some thick skin and quit worrying about their perceived god-given right to be offended by everything.

My typical schtick when someone says I've offended them is to counter that I'm offended by their claim of offense.

Usually this illustrates the ridiculousness of their crusade.
  30. QuestionHillary
    The nerve to ask!

    I'm offended already!

You, my friend, need a vasectomy! How the hell can you afford so many bastard children?

      No offense, of course...
