I'm up late and too lazy to get the remote control - consequently I'm stuck surfing the net while Jerry Springer is on.

Are these people for real? I can't work it out - some of it seems like really bad acting, they are trying to look angry with just a slight smile they can't keep off their face. If they are real, why do they even go on this show? Have they no dignity?

If they're real, how do the people who are on the show get 'surprised' by the revelations that the their boyfriend/girlfriend springs on them. If Iwere in the car (god forbid) on the way to appear on the Jerry Springer show on the request of my partner, there's no way I'd wait till he sprung whatever it was about on international tv - I'd be nagging it out of him in the car! Surely these people are well paid very bad actors?

Of course the show is staged. Most "reality" shows are.

There staged in a controlled way i reckon, to make it look real but in reality.

I hope not. I can't bear to watch that stuff, not even for the shock factor, it's all so staged it's insulting to the viewers.

They are real in the sense that they get paid to make it look terrible. Probably the underlying story is a bit real, then they expand on it.

Guys in the office loved the show for fun! They don't want to miss the show every lunch, lols! It grossed me out though...to each it's own eh?

    They gotta be plastic people.

Most all shows they tell the audience when to clap and boo. So you have to figure the entire show is done the same way. This works with all shows not just the talk shows.

The only thing I know for sure is I am saying, "no thank you," if I ever get a call from the Jerry Springer show, saying they have a friend of mine that wants to reveal something to me on the show. The only way I am going on the Jerry Springer show is if I am the one who called them with the idea.

The people who appear on the show seem legit to me... I think it's like wehireu said. I think the show causes them to get carried away in certain ways, but the overall situations and people are real in all the cases I have seen, so far as I can tell.

The audience yelling and cheering is just people partying at the show.

No. At least not always, I had a friend who was cast on 7 different occasions as "the white trash cheater" on Springer back in the 90s. He also did stints on Rikki Lake and Sally Jesse Raphael.

You'd have thought that people would catch on when they see the same person being a white trash cheater over and over, with different names.

Unfortunately I know someone like that too. She did the Richard Bey Show three different times with her husband. Richard Bey was around in the early '90's and ran mostly in the North eastern US.

She was so proud of the tapes. I found it sickening to watch.

I hope the guests are real, or else my entire world will be crushed!

Those idiots couldn't possibly be real, and if they are, which on some level, I know they are...

Just too scary to think about.

I think they are likely to give the USA a bad reputation, or add to it at least.

Sure, but I still believe people like this that are starving for attention, are Universal.
    1. Lucyvp
Yep, you're probably right, but Americans do it with showbiz pizazz and then beam it across the world lol.

I'm pretty sure they're real, it's sad that the show plays on their unfortunate situations and behaviours. But it's not just in the US ... ever see TV from the UK or Japan? Very strange stuff! lol People are weird universally ... not geographically

I had an employee who appeared on Jerry Springer, Jenny Jones, and Ricki Lake with her boyfriend. They would do them to get free trips. In fact, they appeared three times on Jenny Jones as different couples.

When I asked did not not verify her story, her response was "Nope. They got what they wanted, and I got what I wanted."
