Hi - I am a keen horse rider and usually ride at least once a week. Last week I spent a few days down in Dorset (UK) and went riding out down there on Friday and what a lovely day it was.

I also go on holiday each year with my daughter, who also loves to ride, last year we went to Ireland, which was great, as we got to gallop at full tilt along the beaches there - WOW that was fantastic!!!

The previous year we went to South Africa and went on safari, did some cattle hearding and I even got to fight some fires - what a great holiday this was.

So tell me if you horse ride and any great places to go - was thinking about going to the States this year in real "Cow Boy" country... any ideas peeps?

i used to show, i still enjoy riding... my favorite experience was riding a pure blooded Egyptian Arabian around the pyramids in Cairo. never been on a horse with such fire! of course it was trained completely different than i was used to, but the power struggle just added to the experience...

Sounds like a great ride - its great when a horse is very forward going and loves to go fast!

I used to ride and own horses (there's a post in my personal blog about those days).

Great memories, altho I did sustain many injuries back then

I remember when I first got into riding, I said to all my friends that I was going to be the first person to ride a horse, and never come off it !!

    Yeah right ! LOL

LOL - I think falling off is part of the game really, it's trying not to come off too badly!

Before the court case and subsequent banning order I had rode every horse within 10 miles of my house.
I had a preference for doe eyed mares and Geldings.

Court case and banning???? is that banning horse riding???
    2. aningeniousname
      Yeah apparently it's "illegal"

Ignore the pink donkeh he means a different type of riding.

I don't think so, I think we are both talking about the joys of mounting a mare and riding her like there's no tomorrow and a badly functioning judicial system.
I personally prefer bareback riding I think it's more responsive and you can feel the horse more. How about you, do you like bareback riding mares too?

Not sure what you are on @aningeniousname and I see what you mean @crpitt!

Oh, Anin, you are once again at your tricks. Shall I remind everyone what you did to my kitty cat thread?

I used to ride when I was younger, it's been over twenty years and my fear of pain rules my sense of adventure now.

That's a shame,as it is so goodto get out on a lovely day on horse-back

I used to ride as a kid and showed once. I loved it, but when I was 10, my best friend (who was taking lessons with me) had a really bad fall. I was pulled from my lessons. I still love horses, but now I am really allergic so have to keep riding down to once a year or so.

Unfortunately, trail rides on rented horses are really frustrating. The Horses so used to bad riders, they are numbed to any commands and try to smack you into a tree.

I am fortunate with the place I go and I tend to ride the same horse and he is great, althoug some places we ride the trees are low and when we are galloping or cantering I have to duck down low, as I am 6'6" and the horse is over 17 hands!! - allergic to horses is a real pain though!

    Hi

You bring back good memories of my younger days. Wish I still had time.

Hi Stryger - good to here from you - hope you are ok and that sunny SA is treating you well. It's a shame that you cannot make the time for horse riding, but I know what you mean I just re-newed my shot-gun certificate and was speaking to the officer about not having the time to shoot and did not do any diving last year either! Must make more time for my favourite hobbies!

      Hi
I'm fine, and you. Winter is coming on in sunny SA. Now between 15 deg C in the mornings and about 25 - 29 deg's C, midday. Getting quite chilly :-)

When are you coming to SA again, too enjoy a ride at Vaalwater

I am good thank you, just got back from skiing in France. That sounds really chilly 25-29 at mid-day!! LOL. Not sure when I'm coming to SA, as I am in the middle of buying a couple of new businesses so could be a while, but perhaps later this year you never know. If I do will let you know so we can catch up for a beer
