Below is a recent post on one of my blogs:

It’s not often I have a moan, but after reading an article about how people see weblogs as troublesome, felt I had to put in writing what I feel about it.

The following is part of that article:

“The main problem with blogs is that, as far as Google is concerned, they masquerade as useful information when all they contain is idle chatter,” wrote Roddy. “And through some fluke of their evil software, they seem to get indexed really fast, so when a major political or social event happens, Google is noised to the brim with blogs and you have to start at result number 40 or so before you get past the blogs.”

Now I don’t know about you but nearly every blog I go to has far more than ‘idle chatter’ yes they do exist but surely not to that extent.

Most of the blogs I visit I find via Google I agree, but on that note the most useful info on any given subject seems to come from ‘those who know’ who write blogs on a miriad of subjects from DIY to wine making, to give an example I, at the moment have tons of apples growing in the garden and little time to harvest them, not that you could eat that many, so I decided that making cider this year is a good idea, now some years ago I used to make beer and wine but cider would be a new process for me, I started to search for cider making info with Google.

I found all kinds of websites and blogs on the subject and have saved 3 or 4 to my favourites….all blogs, it seems that the websites are loaded with info but somewhat sketchy, (in between the adverts and links to buy wine making kits), the blogs on the other hand have relevant and useful information and has set me on the right road to produce good cider for this winter.

So much for idle chatter.

They also said in the article about there being far more blog writers than there are blog readers!, and this got me thinking as to why I have a blog, it is here as an add on to my main work website, and I know new and existing customers read it, and as far as some blogs go I don’t get that many comments on my posts, but am I bovvered?.

From my servers records I know by the ‘hits’ on the site it’s worth doing and thats what counts, I like to think this blog has slightly more than idle chatter, in fact I am thinking of starting another one, so to the people that wrote the above article, it looks like blogs are here to stay, get used to it!!!!

Your comments would be valued

I understand the person's criticisms, but they must not be looking very hard. Makes me wonder about their skills with a search engine.

By the way, where did you read this stuff? You dont't cite the source here or on your blog.

Stoneman will see if I can find the source page in my history files

You may want to be careful about putting full articles on here, wont it show up in google hell once it gets indexed, you could always put a teaser and then have a few more visitors go to your site to see the full article.

I see you mention about more bloggers than there is readers, but isnt this the same who the internet on a whole, more websites than there is people in the world.

Just a google search for .com brings up 6,550,000,000 sites

crkian, I am also guilty of producing many websites per person, I have a dozen or so domain names in use, host 7 websites, 3 fourums and a couple of blogs, I seem to remember a quote many years ago that if every single person had one car the world would come to a standstill, that said a year ago I didn't even know what a blog was.
On your first point, I quite agree :)just not got the hang of promoting my sites yet, I come here to have a nose at what other people have to say and write about

Also good for blogs too, one of my best finds was on that site for a wordpress plugin, one of the reasons I saved the above site was as it was the first post I had commented on, I got a nice pearsonal e-mail thanking me for my comment, I thought that was a nice touch so joined.

And if you want to see how it works and have not commented on my blog before, leave a comment then check your e-mail you entered.
