I don't like mainstream crap, so I only listen to CDs. But I guess los...I mean people who like rap and pop like the radio.

I admit, I'm NPR addicted. I feel like a dork laughing to What Do You Know, etc. but the small pleasures are the good ones.
    1. Stillthinking
We can be dorks together because I have my NPR mug and NPR canvas shopping bag and "This American Life" on my Ipod...
    2. lisleman
add me to your NPR friends - love Wait Wait Don't Tell Me
most of the time in the car I listen to my mix CD's.
    3. legbamel
I'm an NPR dork, too. I listen to Morning Edition on the way to work and All Things Considered on the way home. I'm addicted to Click and Clack and Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me and What Do You Know? absolutely kill me.

I also listen to the only independent local station, as it's completely ad-free and run by a bunch of geeks who love music. How can you go wrong with a format like that?
    4. Stillthinking
      @legbamel

You need to listen to This American Life. I love "Click and Clack", "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me". I also listen to "Fresh Air". I have a tiny bit of an embarrassing story.

Back when "Odyssey" with Gretchen Halperich was still on the air, I was completely unaware that WBEZ, Chicago's local NPR station was producing it. I thought it was produced out of Boston. Well, being a total dork, I was talking about my NPR obsession at a party with this really nice guy. He asked me what my favorite and least favorite shows were. Of course "This American Life" was my favorite and my least favorite was "Odyssey". He asked me why I disliked "Odyssey". I responded that I found Gretchen's Eastern snooty accent to be aggravating and that the show was overly dry. His response: "I'll let Gretchen know that next time I talk to her". I just about died from embarrassment.

      Open mouth, insert foot.

I listen to Delilah on Fridays, mostly.
    1. TrentLane
What state are you in? I used to listen to someone by that name...
    2. owlbarn
      Arizona
    3. TrentLane
Oh, never mind then. I never went to Arizona...
    4. siahsmom
I'm in Maine - There's a Delila here too in the evenings... hmmm.
    5. trailofpen
Delila is syndicated nationally so chances are that you can probably listen to her wherever you are at.

I was a radio fan back in 1984 when I havn't any TV at home. I became a TV fan from 1985 till 1998 till I hadn't any computer at home. And now I am a Computer (Net) fan. :-)

Still listening to radio is the most soothing experience of all.
    1. dialoguewithyou
I agree, radio is still the most soothing experience of all
  5. Stillthinking
I love non-commercial radio like NPR.

I used to listen to NPR for hours a day.
  6. greencurmudgeon
I listen to BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4 every day.
    1. jafabrit
Yep, thank goodness for the internet because now I can listen to all the bbc shows.
  7. Jaybetee
I don't really like radio all that much, but the car i drive to work each day only has a cassette player and I don't have any tapes--except for the Beastie Boy's Check Your Head and some Grateful Dead Bootlegs, which I have already played way too many times. So, I tend to listen to the radio because there isn't another option.

I listen to CBC radio every day. I switch back and forth between CBC AM and FM. I also listen to co-op radio stations broadcasting from the universities and colleges. I do not listen to commercial radio.
    1. jafabrit
yak, never listen to commercial radio.
    2. timethief
Yak! is right when it comes to commercial radio, but CBC is advertising free public broadcasting radios, and their documentaries and other programs are top notch. On Wednesday afternoons I listen to a great 3 hour long co-op radio program featuring world music. I rarely ever miss it.
  9. DrPPoorluk
Be it talk radio or music, I need the damn radio! Rides to anywhere are a miserable thing without it. What's wrong with a little mystery or chance anyway? Those go away with the personal programming of an ipod or things of the like.
  10. coolbuster
not much on local radio. internet radio, yes! imah big fan coz i once worked in a radio station...
  11. sunyy
    i m a radio fan
  12. oreosmom
radio is okay sometimes, but the commercials really make it irritating to listen to. i really only listen to the radio in the car, and even then i usually bring something else to listen to.
  13. harriselizabeth
^If am bored then I listen to the radio.
  14. DrPPoorluk
Video killed the radio star. Then the videos really started to suck. Then the videos turned into reality shows. The radio star re emerges...
    1. lisleman
did the music video go bad or did the studios figure out how cheap it was to produce reality shows? The should just be called shows with unknown and unproven talent.
  15. tcinvestor
I prefer my own mixes and internet radio but also listen to a local radio station. It is an independent station so they have the ability to diversify & be creative with the playlist so it's a cool station unlike most homogenized garbage on the radio airwaves.
  16. bringbackpluto
If I listen to music it's always on my ipod or CDs.

But a third of the time I need a break from music, so I listen to talk radio. Usually just sports stuff. Nothing political or I just get worked up.

Talk radio!!! I can't believe it. That's what my mom used to listen to. I always thought, "HOW DEPRESSING!"

Fast forward thirty years. WOW! That's scary.

    What's next?.....Hairy Ears here I come!
  17. ChrisMM
Actually listening radio isn't so nice that was before... My favorite songs are only in mine cds and MP3. It is a quite boring know that I can't listening my favorite songs in radio. If I heard I'd be suprised :O
  18. Halconite
The radio is still the most reliable "window" to the world in the Philippines and the most reliable medium in the grassroots or rural areas ...
  19. dialoguewithyou
Wow! am excited to know so many of us here still enjoy listening to the radio
  20. torp
I listen to radio when I'm in my car, but only Yankees baseball or liberal commentary. I tried listening to conservative radio, but their ignorance and lies make me sick. I also listen to satellite radio at home -- mostly liberal commentary or old time radio shows like Jack Benny, Fibber McGee & Molly, Gunsmoke, Suspense, Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, etc.
    1. Stillthinking
NPR my friend. You will love it...
  21. celticmusicfan
I love listening to NPR ST Luis MO. I know this is an American radio which has nothing to do with what's happening in my area but the topics are thought provoking. I also listen to BBC.
  22. Epicharis
I don't listen to music on the radio...radio stations rarely play the kind of stuff I listen to anyway. But I do listen to the radio all the time, I listen to BBC Radio 4 which has news programmes and documentaries and comedy shows and drama. I get withdrawals if I can't listen to it!
    1. polybore
BBC Radio4 is one singular constant in time with the heartbeat of polybore's life.

Knowing polybore's luck, when the heartbeat stops, the bloody Archers music will be on.
    2. Epicharis
      hahahahahaha!
  23. siahsmom
I love the radio on in the car - like it loud - I think it's because I grew up in the 70's back when FM was the coolest.
    1. dialoguewithyou
      thanks for sharing everyone
  24. kdawg68
I'm embarrassed to admit that I've actually become a fan of the "Mickey and Amelia" shenannigans here in Baltimore on "98 Rock". I started out HATING them and thinking they were juvenile idiots, but now I've grown accustomed to their foolery.
    1. dialoguewithyou
wow! am excited to hear from so many radio lovers
  25. tcinvestor
Listening to a little local independent tunes right now.
    1. DrPPoorluk
After all these years, all the stations In my area are still getting the Led Out! I love it!
Get the Led Out= A block of 4 Led Zeppelin songs. Usually at 7pm & 10pm. Depends on the channel.
  26. avecchioni
I love Amy Goodman's 'Democracy Now' program in the a.m. (carried by many college radio stations). She's an investigative journalist who covers topics generally ignored by commercial venues. I also like 'What do You Know' hosted by Michael Feldman, and 'Prarie Home companion' hosted by Garrison Keiller. Once in a while I'll also listen to a White Sox game on the radio.
  27. mantiz
Only internet radio for me.. cause they play some real music and the local stations at my place suck!
  28. trailofpen
The radio is horrible. I stay away from it at all costs. I tend to make my own music to listen to nowadays. Although I am a big fan of internet radio.
  29. sisterofmercy
I listen to the radio every day probably, but I much prefer IPods as you're guaranteed music that you like.
    1. legbamel
But you won't be exposed to new music you wouldn't otherwise have tried. That's one of the best things about finding an independent station (one that posts its playlist on-line, especially)--you get to hear stuff that's actually worth the 20 minutes you have to spend hunting it down on-line because no big music seller is carrying the obscure band.
    2. avecchioni
That's true. I've discovered some great music on college radio stations (e.g.--Joanna Newsom: The Milk Eyed Mender).
  30. rcrane52
    i love radio.
but in the spirit of full disclosure, i'm a radio ventriloquist so i guess it's a big part of my livelihood.
    1. dialoguewithyou
      interesting
  31. KPinski77
NPR pretty much all day every day
  32. maccasenior
Hi! Now that Digital Radio has hit the airwaves in Australia I might have my ear glued to the radio more often!
