Ego could be defined as whatever covers up basic goodness. From an experiential point of view, what is ego covering up? It's covering up our experience of just being here, just fully being where we are, so that we can relate with the immediacy of our experience. Egolessness is a state of mind that has complete confidence in the sacredness of the world. It is unconditional well being, unconditional joy that includes all the different qualities of our experience.

Ego could also be defined as your conscious mind. I'm aware of my ego because it's talking to your ego right now. If you were without an ego, you'd be in a coma.

If you think that all the world is sacred, you haven't seen an Ebola victim.

I think the ego is very important and valuable, but I also think it is important to become aware of it.

Not to identify yourself with the ego, but use it as a tool to make a difference in the world.

    Yes. I always say I

Rather specious definitions, if you ask me. And based on those definitions, I cannot answer your question.

I am aware that I have an overblown ego, but that's ok with me and my ego

Hey! Just because you're beautiful, smart and successful is no reason to have an overblown ego.

I like my egos. I toast them for about 3 minutes and add syrup. mmmmm

Unfortunately I am. The ego is the rock around our necks. As they say "kill the I (ego) and you will not have problems..."

That's just what The Man wants you to think. It's more convenient to cater for one universal ant colony type ego than for each individual human ego.

A bad case of importantitis affects your career and relationship. I keep my ego in check always.

Until I read your whole question, my first thought was a Pema quote! I LOVE her and have many of her books. I'm Buddhist and the times I don't practise are the times I turn into a self-centered terrible petty person. I've learned I can be a real bitch when protecting my ego. I notice more drama in my life when it is out of wack. The movie Fight Club actually has several references to Buddhist and Zen ideas:

"You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake.
You are the same decaying organic matter as everything else.
We are the all-singing,all-dancing crap of the world.
We are all part of the same compost heap."
