Are you planning to Go Pink in October to show your support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month?
The Pink For October site is down, but that doesn't mean that we can't still show our support by decorating our blogs in Pink, carrying the Pink Ribbon and adding the button to click for free mammograms.
I've posted the buttons and links here.

I still have the free pink blogger templates to download as well -- or just to look at for inspiration in creating your own Pink blog.
Please spread the word and please come by and leave a comment if you decide to Go Pink so I can add your link to the Supporters List.
Most of us have been touched by breast cancer in our personal lives. If you have a story to share I'd love to hear it. For myself, I have 2 blogging friends who had double radical mastectomies. I started creating these templates in their honor. These women were brave enough to journal their experiences, their fears and doubts, their triumphs and the pictures as they went through chemo, surgeries, and reconstruction. I'm happy to say that they are survivors.
I have lost 2 great aunts to breast cancer and I have a dear friend who lost his wife and the mother of his 4 daughters when she was in her early 30s. She refused chemo because she was pregnant. She lost her fight shortly after giving birth. I think of her strength and determination as I work on the free pink templates. She reminds me that all we are is what we give to others in the end.
And that cancer touches us all.
We need to take care of ourselves. And each other.
PS. This is my first post for discussion. Please forgive if I've messed up the links or have otherwise not done it right. I'd appreciate constructive criticism, but would prefer it through private messaging.
Thanks,
T

crazyTsu, I hope you do. As well as your friends.
But the most important thing is the button link to the free mammogram site. The sponsors will donate money to pay for mammograms for women who can't afford them based on the number of clicks. You can only click once in a 24 hour period, but if we can get enough buttons up we should be able to really make a difference. The best part is it's a way to help and it's free! They are not asking us to make the donations, although you can if that's your choice, they're just asking us to put up a button so our readers can click for free.
Going Pink is a matter of personal choice. But carrying the button is the greatest way to show your support and make a difference in someone else's life.

Not at all. Two years ago I wrote a post called "Why i don't go pink for breast cancer awareness month" and I still feel that way. I got a lot of hate mail from it, but it did cause a couple of other bloggers to remove their pink ribbons, and I got a lot of thank you mail as well. I have had some relationship with breast cancer, a friend of mine had it and my grandmother died from the effects of the chemotherapy she had during her breast cancer.
There are many sides to every coin, but generally that is the side I am on.
This is the link to the two year old post if anyone is interested.

Coop, I'll definitely read. No hate mail here.
I asked the question as a question. There is no right or wrong answer.
I'm truly interested in knowing how people feel about it.
Can't believe that people sent you hate mail over it though.
That's a little crazy.
I've heard stories about sponsors before. Even the feed the children funds. I still give anyway. It's just my nature.
Of course going pink or clicking a button isn't coming out of my pocket. If I was donating I might be concerned. But I'm not, just showing support.
If you change your mind you know where to find me... -
Oh certainly. I think it's a matter of what an individual feels comfortable with. I do go purple, or at least write about Domestic Violence Awareness month, which is also October. Mainly because I have worked at women's shelters all my adult/teen life and there is no cash cow reaping the rewards of the cause.

Looks like I'm commenting in all the wrong places. Sheesh!
crpitt, you walked? That's really awesome. I don't know about the sponsors or charities. I tend to trust until I'm given a reason not to. Then I'm outta there and let them deal with their own bad Karma. But, You Walked! That's inspiring in itself. At least you know one person who was empowered that day for sure--You.
You're definitely my hero. -
cr: I walked the first couple years after my grandmother died, I walk for Congo now instead, or at least have for the last two years. There is a lot of community based stuff going on here that can be done though, cancer treatment patients are in dire need at times of support and a lot of that includes rides to treatment, housecleaning, someone to stay with them so the family can have a day off and so on and so forth.
I'm all for doing things, it's the going pink campaign and the cash cow it has become that bothers me, and many others. -
Domestic Violence is a great cause. I work at women's shelters myself. Ashamed to admit (after reading your post) that I only work there during the holidays. I couldn't agree with you more that if you're really devoted to a cause you should be devoted all year, not just for one month a year.
But I am passionate about fighting breast cancer.
I really do want to see it cured. Cash cow or no, I really hope to see it eradicated in my lifetime. I have a daughter. That makes me passionate about it.
I guess that what really matters is that you find the cause you're passionate about. You've found yours and I bet it's helping a lot of women out there. Even if it's just sharing the stories. It's still a crime that is swept under the rug far too often. Someone has to be their voice. -
Walk for Congo? I feel dumb. Have to look that up. I'm still new here so I haven't had much time to really delve into groups or anything. But yeah. I'm an action person myself. As a matter of fact I'll be out tomorrow seeing what I can do to help the families here who just got flooded out.
I always say 'next year I'll walk'. Then I never do.
I kinda suck that way.
