mozillaZine says that "millions of users will attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the most software downloads in 24 hours."

I use Firefox, but I don't plan to help set that record - no principles involved, it's just that I have other tasks penciled in for tomorrow.

How about it: are you going to be in on a maybe-record-setting download? Why - or why not?

Tomorrow? I'm using it now... did it come out earlier for Mac? I don't know, my husband downloaded it on my Mac...

I know: the downloads are available right now (I updated my post, with a link to the download page).

I think part of it has to do with the International Date line: It's already "tomorrow," east of North America, where I live.

How's version 3 working, BTW? I've read some pretty good things about it.

So far it's not bad. One new thing I noticed is that, when typing in a URL, instead of the drop-down just showing addresses, it shows the title of the sites, too. Also, instead of popping up a box to ask if I want to save a password (I'm not sure if this is just a Mac feature or not), it shows as a little bar on top of the webpage. It looks slightly different, but it's not overwhelming.

Yeah. From the writeups, it looks like version 3 is more of an evolutionary, than a revolutionary, change.

Yeah, I haven't noticed anything spectacular so far. Can't say what it will be like on Windows, but older versions of FF have been very similar between Windows and Mac.

I'm rather disturbed with firefox lately. I have virtually no add ons and it stops working all the time.

Won't be me trying to break the record.

I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've used it on a variety of (IBM clone) systems, with zero problems.

With the browser. Some of the systems were twitchy: but I doubt it was a browser issue.

Do you think you might have gremlins?

No I have vista - that may be the problem.I have no problem with safari on Vista though. I am used to firefox and like it just lately it is buggy for me.

At least one browser works. I'm afraid that I'm not as enthusiastic about Vista as my son is - he's looking forward to what he regards as The Next Big Thing.

Yup, i even blogged about it today at asianlunatic.org/2008/06/spread-the-firefox-its-today/#comment-7

So I understand. Thanks for the link.

I would like to help set the record, but the campaigners have neglected to mention which timezone they're working with and the download now buton takes me to the ff2 download page which still shows ff3 as being a public beta. Its 7:10am in Spain so I can only assume they must be working on California or even Hawaii time, but if they can't be bothered getting their info straight, why should I be bothered downloading it?
    1. Norski
Most excellent point! We've run into timezone issues already, in this thread. Firefox3 became available sometime in the late afternoon or evening of June 16, here near the center of North America.

I have no idea what '24 hour period' will be used to determine the record, if any.

So what's the link to the official release of ff3 (not the beta) and I'll go download it now
  7. Svelmoe
I mainly use Firefox (due to the developer plug ins in it) but I do not plan on participating.
No particular reason, I just find the idea ..... silly to say the least, and because I'm more pragmatic regarding software.

I have used firefox 3 for a week now....
  9. PetLvr
Well .. hopefully Firefox 3.0 won't be such a memory hog crashing everybody's system as v2 has been.

    @br3adman .. how's your take on FF3 beta?
