    Do you live in Africa?
    1. ThinkingUhuru
No I don't.. I spent 10 months living and working there ( in Kenya specifically), and have a deep love and interest in that continent as well as an interest in working with issues of African development and relief in some capacity.

I have lived in South Africa for 5.5 years. It is my observation that it takes several years of living here to gain an appreciation of the complexities of the problems here. And without that appreciation, it is difficult to conceive of viable solutions.

I am not claiming to be an expert. In fact, I see too much of that on blogs. The only real "experts" are those living in Africa who have to deal with these issues on a daily basis, not ex-pats, and certainly not those who have visited and then left. I will be the first to say I am still not fully fluent in all the complex issues faced by Africa, but I am listening, and I am learning, little by little.

I have a great interest in Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa to be more specific, and study foreign policy therein.
My personal feeling is that our largest problem all along is not making the people we want to help part of the solution, it is arrogance on some level. It is yet more complicated than that, but I yes I have an interest in it.

I was actually hoping people would read my blog and give feedback on the issues raised in THERE, but thanks for commenting anyway

Deeply into middle age, my mind isn't broad enough to get involved with 53 countries and a billion people, so I compartmentalise. I read and see everything I can on Mediterranean North Africa i.e Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.
