it's all so annoying. They upgrade we upgrade, more hardware required, more software, gliches, upgrade this machine in one environment, then upgrade another so you can work properly, next company upgrades their apps to work with kupgrades, more bugs, more changes in software.

I use computers for work and it just gets in the way , down time, glitches. In fact the standard computers will be gone in a couple of years i think. It's all changing

      Right
Have you seen those win 7 vids?
    3. acousticguitarist
no and i won't bother until it's all working reasonably well and I'll painstakingly upgrade everything that i have to

I'm still hating Actionscript 3, it's so clumsy. With Actionscript 2 I could just make up code and it worked most of the time.

It so long winded, but I need it now

Polybore has been using windows 7 for a while now (polybore is a beta tester registered with microsoft technet).

Polybore runs Windows XP, Ubuntu and windows 7. Have avoided Vista for obvious reasons.

The good news is that Windows 7 is very impressive and it runs fine on polybore's ancient, eight year old, test rig. AMD XP3200 (socketA!) 1.25GB RAM and Gforce 6600GT.

So it requires less power than Vista?

Do "lemon laws" apply to operating systems?? Can those of us who are STUCK with that useless sack of s**t called Vista get a free upgrade to Windows 7?

My NEW computer is having problems, some of them factory faults, but the technician said I would be better off without Vista as it is sucking up more than half my RAM! I have 2 gigs and have to upgrade to 4 (of which the OS can only see 3.2) just to be able to use my graphics programs without overly long refresh times.

      Now this is just wrooooong!!

I am still using Windows XP - the reasons because I need to work on Engineering Software which are only Windows supported, I have an unsupported Canon Scanner and I like to use Adobe Software.
    Otherwise I work on Ubuntu.

I am however getting myself a new computer with Vista Home Basic pre-installed.
I'll be installing OpenSUSE on a separate partition.

I heard Vista's support will come to an end on April 10 2012 ? Is that true ?
Doesn't make sense because Microsoft will continue supporting XP upto 2014 !

Either way, I'll still be using a most upto date Linux distribution - for Free.

Windows sucks - get a Mac!

it's an interesting point. but many people work in Windows environments in their jobs and need to work at home as well, cross platform issues can be a waste of time. the solution is usually run an extra win os on mac

      Yep.
No matter how much I dislike Windows, I still have to use it for some things.

And some of us live in places where, even if we can get a Mac, we can't get parts, service, or software for it.

Nope. I'm not waiting on any future Windows version. I'll stick with XP for as long as I can.

I'm starting to believe that linux systems are going to overthrow windows in the PC operating system market. Whatever operating system the big software developers endorse is where the flock is going to follow.

I guess if I was smart I'd start optimizing for Bing for when they roll this one out and pick up a lot of extra traffic from newbies
  7. rfburnhertz
    Nope.
I always avoid the next Windows OS until I am nearly forced into it.
In contrast, I keep my Linux distro constantly up to date at all times and upgrade the kernel within a few weeks after it is released.

no.. not gonna buy.. rc is free anyway, also I have a copy of Vista from wwhen I bought my Laptop(though I use XP) and M$ gives a free upgrade to Vista owners
  9. dosox
XP is enough for me. I'm tired of windows
