I have art in my blog among other stuff. Oh, and it's my own art.

      morhantj,

Your talent is well represented by both your creative work and your website theme. Very clean and subdued design to contrast against your artwork. Single page layout simplifies navigation. One of the best animated logos I've ever seen. Love your inkblot designs, and "It's Turtles all the Way Down" is stunning. Wonderful!

      MeannaBlog,

I like what you like, too! I can't think of a better background color (black) to propel that awesome amount of color from the screen. I really enjoyed your introduction to Dalek's work, and that pencil sculpture by Jennifer Maestre is absolutely brilliant. I'll be visiting again to see what else you find!

      dotartdude,

Art at Random - Nice basic color scheme highlighting interesting works. I enjoyed the mixed media on paper the most. The labels under each entry are unnecessary since you have a tag cloud in the sidebar. An overall pleasant visit.

Dot Art - Haven't seen this done quite as well lately. Pleasing background image and theme. Very pleasant dot art designs. I think the 5" square canvas size is spot on (sorry). Same comment as above about labels. I particularly like your motivational description for each work. Interesting visit.

Pic Folio, Pic Journal & Video Journal - Rather standard fare but you are consistent with your theme across the boards. I enjoyed your Mardi Gras videolog, and the YouTube videos are seamlessly integrated into your site with good, descriptive text. Nice job!

I like where your going with this..Have at mine: photo-projectz.blogspot.com/

It may not be what art, but to me photography is an art form.

    Cartoons... but is it art?

      PastExpiry,

I think I'm a Johnny Ancich fan! I realize how difficult comedy may be but you do it stylistically and with a unique "off the wall" humor. They all drew a smile.

I like the color scheme of your site, and you managed to place a lot of data in the body in a pleasant way, but it seems a little bottom heavy. I'm afraid that criticism goes without a good alternative other than integrating the transition between the two (more columns), or even placing in on another page. The array of links under each cartoon might be more presentable together as a drop-down menu.

I have to say the gallery links to Shareapic are a bit annoying with all the advertisements. Is there a way to host your work locally?

Overall, very nice art work. I look forward to seeing more!

    ChicaX,

Photography is definitely an art form (as proven by many new and old masters). Your site was a pleasure to visit. I love the colorful and "artsy" header design. It's interesting without being too busy. I also appreciate the "About Me" intro embedded inside the header as the first thing I read when accessing your site.

I've always preferred a 3-column theme when properly done such as yours. My only suggestion would be to move "Photos By Category" to the top since that's why I went there in the first place, but that's just a personal preference.

Your abstract images are eye candy, and the "CameraPorn" shot is supremely reflective and moody. Well done!

Thanks, I think that was one of the better quality reviews I got. I appreciate it.

I don't blog about art, but here are two that I like. One deals with the Belle Epoque and one with the Jazz Age:

    Art Deco: artdecoblog.blogspot.com/
    Beautiful Century: beautifulcentury.blogspot.com/

      stoneman,

Art Deco - A clean and stylistic site with a good use of neutral gray in which to contrast the color and B&W photos. I like the spartan text that showcases those wonderfully elegant photographs, but the labels seem to get in the way. Perhaps a tag cloud in the sidebar done in the same style font used in the titles would be more presentable. The buttons dividing Archive and Deco Links could be moved to the bottom (my preference). The only problem I found was a mis-placed picture of Louise Brooks (bottom) that extends outside the border (checked with IE & FireFox). Overall, a beautiful presentation.

Beautiful Century - Another stylistic website with great eye appeal. The background graphic is most appropriate and compliments the classic images. The selection of elegant fonts adds a finishing touch. I find the presentation interesting but I'm left without knowing the purpose. Off hand it looks like an online classic fashion catalog but I know there's more. For instance, a little background information or bio on actress Pilar Monteiro would hold my interest and motivate me to read more. I think the dead space in the header area could be filled with lots of good information to serve as an appetizer for the lady taking tea. Nice design, though.

      lordsomber,

DeviantART - Interesting site. Very well organized. Clear thumbnails. Lots of good details and viewing options for each work. Pleasant color theme. Not too crazy about the full page ads but I understand their usefulness.

I thought the "Today" page was a brilliant concept and is well executed. A great platform for promoting new artists and their exciting and ambitious work.

The Pungeoning - A handsome blog. A visually attractive site but I have no idea what it offers the visitor. Since I really didn't glean anything of value I lost interest in just a few moments. How about a little definition or a brief statement (other than the subtitle) about a more specific cause or purpose? The blogs looked enticing but the content is a bit too esoteric by catering to a very specific interest. Overall I felt it was an unproductive visit.

Thanks for the critique... it's okay to get lost in the "esoteric-ness" ...

Here is somewhat of a summation:

Dada artist Chell B wants a review

    kevingoodman,

The Offended Blogger - A very stylish and pleasing website design with an ominous warning right from the start. I thought the Fran Lebowitz quote was appropriate and it prepared me for what I thought was going to be the most crude and offensive content I'd ever come across on the net. But aside from the usual Christian bashing and Chelle's predilection for penile profanity, I enjoyed my visit among the sidebars of equally offensive resources (Cats That Look Like Hitler) and blogs about the discourse of her own offensive life, and a couple offensive contests to 'round it out.

There's a lot of entertainment value there, but it's all on one page so you might consider a small table of title links at the top to help quickly guide us hapless Nimrods to a blog of interest.

Oh, and I do have one suggestion for a future subject; I recall a bumper sticker I saw years ago that managed to offend just about everyone. It said, "Gay Nazis For Jesus."

    Mike-
    1. offendedblogger
Haha!! I was thinking more of "Bong Hits for Jesus" because that is the title of my next Offensive.

Wow, I am so flattered to have been pimped like that by Kevin.

thanks a lot for such in depth review.. yes there are few grammar mistakes.. which i know exists. Will keep you updating about the blog.

      manumartin,

Manu Martin - Another tastefully designed, dark themed website with a delightfully ornate header promising interesting things to come. The black border around the blue-tinted photographs drew me into the subject matter, but the real treasure lies further on down the page. I was really impressed with your early illustrations, and the example of your first experience drawing with a tablet demonstrates your natural talent as a creative draftsman.

I can see how the example of your father's superb workmanship provides you with inspiration, and I found the detail of your work on the epic "Ramayana" remarkable.

The site does a fine job of presenting your work, but there are some areas that could use a little improvement. A bit more attention to grammar would be beneficial, and I'd really like to see more background info in your Complete Profile. Also, matching the Google Adsence color scheme to your site (an easy to do) would make it more consistent in appearance.

All in all a delightful visit and I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.

Manu- It's very interesting for me to see such a fusion of European illustration style with Hindu content. Is that common now-a-days in India? I'm an American ferenghee so I only know traditional Indian forms.

      martyweil,

A Year in Asheville - A clean, simple design with plenty of white space and color to keep the eye in motion. Getting to and from pages is easy and fluid, but I found myself asking, "Where the beef?" There's got to be something there to keep the interested visitor, interested. The layout is crisp but the content is flat. The images are great, but a little explanatory text to the thumbnail will draw the viewer's interest into what you have to say.

But the main question I asked when first accessing the site was, "Where the heck is Asheville and why did someone make a site about it?" I stumbled around a bit until I found the "About" link, then discovered what I needed to know.

The structure is there, but a couple improvements will make it more complete and pleasure to visit. Firstly, how about adding, ",NC" to the title, and maybe a short paragraph about living there a year. That would solve the immediate mystery of where it is. Or at least move the "About" link to the top of the page. Also, I expected the "Most Recent Photo" thumbnails on the right side of the page to open the full sized photo or a gallery category listing instead of linking to a blog post. The linked blog post does contain the full sized photo, but there's that lack of local content to tell me more about it.

It's a great start. It just needs more time put into it. And, yes, I know how hard it is to find the time but it's usually worth the effort.
