I am really grateful for all the help I have been getting from my fellow BC friends here and would like to offer some help in return. I am officially paying it forward!

From lurking around the discussions at BC and posting my own, I have actually learned quite a lot about blogging in the past six months and am happy to offer my opinion about your blog, design, colors, content, socialnetworking goals, Digg, Stumbleupon, etc...or just offer some encouragement if you are in a blogging slump. I look at hundreds of websites every day and have started to get a feel for what works and doesn't.

You need help? I am sitting around bored today waiting for Carkian to finish my blog makeover and patiently waiting for the blog terrorists to kindly stop attacking my blog for being on Digg.

Go ahead...ask me anything! If you don't want to do it publicly just send me a private shout in my box.

I may not know the answer, but I am here to help and just trying to pay it forward in thanks for all the people that have taken their time to help me out like Kevin @ pointlessbanter.net, Carkian, Time Thief, PetLvr, and all of you other blogging geniuses.

Since most new bloggers ask me about socialnetworking help, here are the sites I use the most so feel free to add me as a friend:

twitter.com/DocNicole

docnicole.stumbleupon.com/

digg.com/users/DrNicole

My biggest tip for social networking is to MAKE FRIENDS. MAKE A COMMUNITY...otherwise you will be digging and stumbling and twittering in a vacuum for all of eternity. Be helpful, form a community of like minded people. GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS!

Does my blog load faster? I took a lot of excess crap off of it recently. Like the widgets from here, I don't want to see who is stalking me haha!

whoops messed up the thread chelle...your response is below...

I am worried about the colour and widget combinations in my blog. Any advice?
    motivations4life.blogspot.com/
    1. DocNicole
I think you are okay because everything is white, blue, and green. A white background is the easiest on your readers eyes. Blues and greens are supposed to be some of the best color choices for your blog...relaxing. People want to be relaxed while they are reading you. Maybe you can log in to technorati and change that widget to blue...but otherwise I wouldn't worry about it...

      Any other opinions for yem?
  3. DocNicole
Hi Richelle! I think your blog is still loading a bit slow. There is some program I have used to test the speed of my blog before and you may want to do that if I can find the link.

You took down your BC widget? I still see it up...weird. I like knowing who is "stalking me" lol. Without the BC widget how can you tell if your friends are actually reading your blog? I guess alot of us read it from email or RSS...
    1. offendedblogger
Yep, I took down the visitors widget so you may be seeing a cache'd version? I only have my blog's rating button there now. Ya know, to show off that 86.something score woot!

Oh, and I know when real friends visit, they leave a comment!

Plus, I do have a high subscription rate so everyone reading this...

Go subscribe to my offenses right now, it's the new black!!
    2. DocNicole
Weird that must be a cached version...and is above my blogging knowledge...lol Go ask someone that can offer you REAL help Richelle.

Is that the highest rating in bc history or what? I am only at like 84.something...*impressed*
    3. DaneMorgan
The more important reason to keep the recent readers widget is social proof. People visiting your blog from anywhere, not just BC see a block of avatars (some of whom they may even know) of people who visit, and ostensibly read, your blog. Social proof is a far more powerful, though subtle force than most people give it credit for being.

I'm just glad to hear you're getting blog help to get things up and running again. Fingers crossed it won't be long before things are working.
    1. DocNicole
Thanks so much! Everyone around here has been so helpful with this blog attack and I have realized that having a community of friends and fellow bloggers is the only way for little people like us to survive on the internet! Go Smell the flowers just told me they are looking in to this mess for me with their team from India.
  5. Jeunelle
Oh my God Doc...you are sooooo gonna get flooded with questions.
    Hang on to your seat.
    1. DocNicole
Well I figured I will do this for just today probably...but I know we all always are fiddling with our blogs and need help or feedback, so I will be the fussy highly fussy opinionated friend for everyone today. Maybe I will have to nominate you to take over tomorrow if this gets ugly. lol
  6. werelax
Well here are my two blogs - Somewhat related to your interest areas
    www.painrelief101.com -
    and a new one www.massagers101.com

Any fussy or major suggestions you have are appreciated
    1. DocNicole
Wow great alexa ranking on your pain relief blog! Congrats...

I really like the colorful layouts of both blogs and find them to be written in an engaging and informative manor. Fabulous.

      Improvements:

I noticed the title of one of the articles was misspelled "suppliment" I have this problem every now and then using word press, and have learned to avoid it by copying the title in to a word doc to double check for spelling errors.

Also at the massage blog there is some weird characters in the first article on thumbs:

      Therapist’s

These are most likely a result of copying and pasting from word. The new version of wordpress has a feature that compensates for this, or you copy from word and then paste it in to the "code" version...hit save and then double check that ZERO HTML code is present. You will need to fix the spacing which I have found can be done by backspacing up and then hitting return...hope that makes sense...but if you have these characters on your blog then they are likely showing up in your email subscriptions as well, which distracts from credibility.

On the massage blog I don't like how the search bar is covering up the "free shipping" that should be fixed...otherwise you have two really great blogs with helpful, engaging content to be really proud of.

Let me know if you would ever like to do a guest post on either or both topics.
    2. werelax
Thanks for the look see and advice. Maybe we could trade guest posts sometime.
    3. DocNicole
Sure feel free to check out my articles and let me know...otherwise I am putting together a kitchen experiment for chronic pain sufferers that I could use other bloggers help on...
  7. yemupz
Thanks for the tip. Am I allowed more than one question???
    1. DocNicole
      I don't see why not!
  8. yemupz
I want to add MyBlogLog's Recent Viewers Widget to my blog but can't seem to understand how to go about it. Any help?
    1. DocNicole
Oh gosh. That is what I hired my blog guy to manage for me. I pay him a set rate each month and he does all the plug ins and stuff like that for me. If you aren't computer literate yet you may want to consider hiring someone to just manage your site for you so you can focus on creating the content. I have finally released to the fact that I have to learn this stuff.

It may be as simple as getting the HTML code and pasting it in to your widget bar, but I wouldn't do it unless you know what you are doing, and ALWAYS make sure you have your template saved and backed up before you fiddle with it.

Hopefully someone with some computer sense will stop by your question and share with us how to do it, otherwise just post it in a discussion under blogging help and someone should be able to tell you.

Otherwise, you can ask my guy Carkian on my top friends to help you manage your blog. I would rather pay someone every month than waste hours and hours trying to figure all this out. Lazy...or efficient?
    2. PetLvr
You do it the same way as you do the BlogCatalog recent viewers' widgets
    3. DocNicole
Thanks PetLvr! I didn't do that one on my site though and it isn't in the region of my template that I feel confident in fiddling with.

    Hi Docty,

what about my blog... am planning to get on with another fresh looks....
but am still stuck. Shall i redesign it.
    1. DocNicole
What are you thinking of doing? Since this is a personal blog, you can easily get away with styling it to display your personality. You don't have to worry so much about what everyone else likes...you do but you don't. I would avoid black, personally I like white blogs because they are cleaner and easier on the eye. For some reason your pics aren't showing up for me and I am just seeing the html code....does it look that way for you as well?
  10. yemupz
PetLvr, I have tried, will get to work on it again and if I don't get it, maybe I'll just get someone to do it. Thanks guys. Am out.
    1. DocNicole
Eh...my blog log totally sucks anyways. I would just stick with BC ;D
  11. earthlingorgeous
Hi Doc! I've been grrrrrr all day because my blog is being stubborn. I posted a thread about the trouble its giving me but only few replies (helpful ones though) I fixed some but I don't know if the problem is still there.

One problem was the overlapping items, text.
    Second was they can't comment.

Help? Can you check if the problem is still there? Thanks so much!
    1. DocNicole
You have three blogs dear! Which one is the one with the trouble?
    2. earthlingorgeous
ooopsy sorry the Earthly Explorations earthlyexplorations.blogspot.com
    3. DocNicole
Where were you seeing problems with the overlapping text? I don't see it but am running firefox. I have found that things look different on diff computers and browsers. I just left two comments and I think they went through. I am glad to see you have the option for non-blogger readers to leave comments. I don't understand why a lot of people on blogspot don't have this set up this way and can't tell you how many times I have tried to leave a comment only to realize I have to log in to my google account to do that...and since I can never remember the pw I just have gotten in the habit of steering clear from these blogspot blogs.
    4. earthlingorgeous
yeah I love comments and I want anyone to comment as long as they are relevant

I was told it was on IE. I removed my blog list that was overlapping the items. I have to get the list back. I love those blogs.

Thanks for the help Doc Nicole

    @DocNicole

I guess so... am getting it... thanks

    @DocNicole

you know what, last night i was reading your post INSOMNIACS..... that's a great post but... i want a little bit shorter than thar... hehe :-)
    1. DocNicole
Oh I started a new weekly thing called "kitchen table cliffnotes" the cliffnotes version of what you need to know. Did the post make you fall asleep? lol...then consider yourself cured!
  14. curlydesigh
I just changed my layout so I am collecting opinions, would love yours!

    todaystyle.today.com/
  15. DocNicole
Hmmm...I am going to have to be your big sister here and tell you something that you may not want to hear for the greater good...but I am not that much of a fan of this layout.

Your content is great, and I found your writing very engaging and entertaining...and helpful...yes we don't want Eva Longoria looking like a lampshade...lol

I really hope you don't take this the wrong way, because I LOVE the spirit and attitude of what you are doing, but the presentation doesn't do that much for me. I am going to be completely honest and I hope I don't hurt your feelings because I really like your writing and hope to help you find something that will grab your readers attention better:

First of all, the grey around the banner just doesn't really go well. Grey doesn't shout "FASHION" at me...grey is drab and doesn't go well with your banner either. I would scale the banner down to exactly half that width in order to better showcase your adverts. Since you are writing about fashion you should have a banner that has the "in" color of the season...purples are really popular right now for instance.

People are relying on you to let them know what is hot right now...maybe have some widgets on the side showing us what the "in" things are as part of an affiliate program and lose the google ads unless for some odd reason you are making bankola off them. Even if people don't buy the things in your widget they still find them more visibly appealing than other adverts.

I can see lipsticks, eyeshadow, jewelry, boots, accessories, and things like that in the adverts section if you can find a great affiliate program (even Amazon.com may work for this...)

I would ditch the google ads under your banner and again switch to an affiliate ad that is a pic, as I found that distracting and difficult to decipher where your content started.

What I envision with what you are trying to do is eventually looking like a hot celeb newsite and going with a magazine layout like what you see at pointlessbanter.net This will showcase your blog better and you can buy a basic template if you are using wordpress at revolutiontheme.com I think you have the potential to have an A list blog based off your writing skills and sense of humor...keep up the great work!

Remember to always align your pictures to the left and downscale them to a standardized size so that your page has continuity and readers visually know what to expect.

I also noticed that there is nowhere for me to subscribe! That should be in the top right corner...you need a following!!

Your content is certainly king...but your queen could use another makeover....it needs to shout FASHION!! Your opinions are hot and I think your layout could be much hotter to match dear. Hope this is all seen as helpful, I wouldn't have taken the time to really evaluate it if I didn't think you had what it takes to really be a success with this.

    Doc
  16. whiteline
Also just changed my layout.. ok, modified. Would love to have feedback on both blogs. Personally, I'm not quite satisified with "Wynd Mills" yet but I'm just learning.

    ridewhitelines.blogspot.com

    wyndmills.blogspot.com
    1. DocNicole
I love the ridethewhitelines blog! Awesome background! I am not usually a fan of black blogs as I find them hard to read, but in this case I find it suits the design well. Great spirit and content.

The wyndmills blog has me left scratching my head. You always should have the name of your blog in the header because that is important for creating a brand name and helping people remember your site. After spending alot of time on this site I don't know what the point of it is...(lol I know not every blog has a point) but I don't understand what it is about...is it about windmills? Is it about spouting off about whatever is on your mind? Is this a personal blog? What are your goals and intentions with this site?

On a completely random note, I would take down that feedburner badge that says you have "3 readers" that is the worlds worst anti-marketing death wish for a blog. When you have over 1000 readers you can brag about it...but until then I would not have it up, a big blog has 50K readers and I think that really only people with 50K+ readers should be putting there subscriber numbers out there...
    2. whiteline
      Thanks Doc,
Great points. I'm not certain what direction WM is going yet - I'm still trying to find a voice on that one. Excellent point on the Title - never gave it two thoughts when I was playing with the template. I appreciate the feedback - thanks so much for taking the time to review.
    3. DocNicole
      Sure no problemo.
  17. annz
Thanks for the offer of answering questions!

I'm worried that my design may be a little too subdued and serious for my Little Four Eyes blog (littlefoureyes.wordpress.com). I want that blog to be seen as credible and helpful, but I'd also like it to reflect the fact that we're dealing with kids, and we're not dealing with an overly-serious subject (well kind of, but not necessarily) and so maybe it could be a bit more playful. Do you think just changing the header to a more colorful picture would do it, or should I start looking for a completely different theme?
    1. DocNicole
I'm confused...that blog you linked too took me to a basic brand new wordpress blog that then said I should go to another blog...which one are you seeking advice on?
    2. annz
gah! how embarrassing to give the wrong URL. toddlerglasses.wordpress.com is the one I'm looking for help on. I made the URL back before I named the blog, so my brain doesn't always convert right.

(The one you went to is one I set up after I realized that I made too many mistakes like that and sent people to the wrong URL. But that's not the one I have questions about.)
    3. DocNicole
Ok so your issue is the same thing I have struggled with for a great period of time "Looking Credible and helpful" while still being fun and engaging. Some of my colleagues don't like that I opted for a cartoon theme and after a while I just had to let it go...there are plenty of other boring sites out there on the internet just like mine, and I am striving to stay strong to my authentic self. I think we can deliver credible content while also being fun. I really like your header the way it is...but you could also consider having someone work up a cartoon avatar to brand your site with. If you choose to brand your site with a cartoon you should switch that avatar over immediately with all your socialnetworking sites to create continuity.

Gosh I just went back over there and read a few articles and I am having a hard time with the idea of you making any changes to the template. I like it, think it grabs the attention, is simple clean and effective. I don't think you really need to do much to change that, unless your goal is to really BRAND your site or make this more authentic to suit your personality and the personality of your family.
    4. annz
Thank you! That was really helpful and nice to have some feedback on that. I like the idea of having a brand, but I worry about making sure it fits. I have occasionally toyed with the idea of putting together some t-shirts and such, and having the brand would be helpful then, but it's a low priority at the moment, I think. I'll have to think more about it. Did you hire someone to make your avatar? She's very nice.
    5. DocNicole
My friend did it for me as a favor. I can give you his contact information if you ever want it just shout your email address in my box.
  18. PetLvr
I'd like to know if people are having problems loading my site.. There's currently a latency problem passing along bandwidth capacity through one of their primary upstream providers .. some people have no problems .. some can't get in ... for me, it's hanging at times ..

PS can you check here? I added you on the blogroll fyi kids.AndYouWill.com/links/
    1. DocNicole
Yep that is slow as a snail PetLvr and I would like the two minutes of my life back that that took to load...lol

Thanks for adding me to your blog roll...I didn't know you had this blog!

Still waiting...waiting....a minute is an eternity on cyberspace...still waiting...ok you are going to need to fiddle with this and let me know when it is done and I will recheck it...still loading...
    2. whiteline
Loaded right away for me PetLvr - could be because it's later in the evening ??
    3. DocNicole
yep it's working super speedy now!
    4. PetLvr
Thanks Whatever the problem was, it was supposedly fixed between 8pm-9pm CST (knock on wood) ... and, as they say - until the next time.
  19. sasidesign
i just give dark green in my themes, is it too silent or not?
and i posted much images is there load faster?

    give me some advice please?

    here my site.. sasidesign.com
    1. DocNicole
Hi Sasi! I really love your blog theme...I think it is clean so it doesn't distract from the point of showing us how to photoshop! I am excited to subscribe and learn how to use this photoshop program a friend gave me.

I don't see a place on your blog that you are advertising photoshop services. You could charge a basic set rate for different photo options. I know a lot of bloggers like myself needs stuff designed and have to find someone to pay for them.
    2. sasidesign
      photoshop service.. hmmm great idea
      thanks for your advice,
but untill now someone need something free more than something paid
but maybe i have to try.
  20. MeghnaK
    My blog is:
    meghnaspages.blogspot.com

Any suggestions for improvement? Thank you.
    1. DocNicole
Hi Meghna! I love the flower theme, but am not a fan of transparent backgrounds as I think they are hard on the readers eye. That is the only thing I would switch right now. Love your top banner! So pretty.
  21. fated82
Is my blog clean and tidy? Would you, as a reader come back to read again?

    mindchic.net
    1. DocNicole
Great blog layout...very simple, clean and easy to navigate. The only change I would make is downsizing your photos a bit so your page loads faster, and aligning them to the left side so it looks like a magazine article.
  22. conditionalcog
Thanks for your offer to help. I have a couple of new blogs and a question for each:

conditionalcognition.com: Does my about page capture the essence of my content?

thelistsof10.com: Should I have only 1 post on the main page or 10? (I haven't written ten yet, but for when I get there.)
    1. DocNicole
      1. I like the about page, I think it is beautifully written.

      2. Hmm...well that is kind of a personal thing, maybe someone else reading the thread will have an opinion. I think you are fine with leaving all your content open to your reader for now, once you get more content you may want to just leave the latest blog open and then use the "more" tag for everything else on the page so that people can quickly see how much you have to offer and find an article that interests them.
    2. conditionalcog
Thanks for the feedback Doc. I appreciate your thoughts and enjoyed reading your blog.

Oh lord have mercy...everyone has such lovely, fabulous blogs.

Mine doesn't measure up, so I don't want an evaluation. I'm just trying to learn from all of you experts.

Color me "blog challenged".....I am ashamed of that, but, my blog is just fun and personal...maybe one day it can be more inviting. I'm trying!!!!!

Doc Nicole! You are a lovely giving soul! I admire you for helping those who want a critique. You are a jewel!
    1. DocNicole
Hi TS! You are such a sweetheart too! I have writers block and my blog is down so I figure I might as well do something productive.
  26. TangledWeb
should I get rid of the social networking chiclets at top as well as subscribe chiclets in left column, or are these things really potentially useful/beneficial to have on my blog?

    www.y5a.net
    1. DocNicole
I would get rid of all of those, but that is just me...some bloggers like them. I guess you should think about what purpose they server for you...visually they are pretty distracting though. I was unable to even find the subscribe anywhere on your site...this is a major problem...it should be in the TOP RIGHT so people can see it and subscribe.
  27. twoblogger
Hi DocNicole, I've checked your blog..nice... and sure you are the expert one.

I just want to know how many post in each page ideal for our blog. I set 10 post/page for mine. Too many is not effective because too much scroll down 'til the end of page but we can show directly some new content post in a page. Otherwise, if to less, visitors only focus for only 1 or 2 newest posts. Which one is better ?
    1. DocNicole
I think ten is the perfect number. If you want to do more than that then you should upgrade to a magazine theme like revolutiontheme.com
that is what I'm converting my site over to right now, which is why it's down.
    2. twoblogger
      Yes you're right doc.
      Thanks for the advice
    3. DocNicole
      sure thing!
  28. Achyut
Hi! I had a blog in the beginning, which I still have. But i wanted to make changes to it which I did. So now I have 2 blogs, with basically the same content yet they are different.
    1)www.achyutktelang.blogspot.com
    2)www.telach.blogspot.com
And although I have mentioned in my first blog a link to visit my new-look updated blog, people don't do it most of the time....
I wanted a transition from my first to second but it has not happened and I am now keeping both of them as even the Googl search gives results for my 1st blog. So what do youthink? Should i continue like this or just remove my first blog???
    1. DocNicole
So I'm a bit confused by all this honestly...your new blog is just a teaser page...or home page to lead in to five other blogs that you own? Why wouldn't you want to just link to the first blog also on this second blog?

I think the second blog def needs more info and more info about you so that visitors know more of what to expect from visiting your other sites.

I think it may be a mistake to delete a blog...I don't know enough about blogging or your page stats or if you are making money off those ads on your page...but I would think twice about deleting it.

Your alexa ranking on both are horrible though...if you want to make money on blogging you may do better to combine your efforts in to one URL.

If someone else has an opinion for you though, I would love to read it.
  29. vms
    Pls comment on my blog
    stock18.blogspot.com
    1. DocNicole
Your content is good, I just am not a fan of google ad placement above the articles. I know placement is everything, but when I visited your page I immediately want to "x" out of it because as an avid internet researcher a design like that is exactly what my brain calls "spam".

If you are making tons and tons of money off this then don't mess with it...but if you aren't making much money I would remove some of the ads that distract from the content and re-monetize when you have established more of a readership. Your alexa ranking is in the 18millions so I think that maybe you should work on attracting readers to your site...
  30. yemupz
Is my blog clean, tidy and attractive? Would you come back or leave a comment after visiting?
    motivations4life.blogspot.com/
    Thanks for the reviews
    1. DocNicole
I think you have done a great job with picking white and blue themes...I really enjoyed the content. You may want to add an email subscription option for dinosaurs like me that prefer to receive updates by email.

You passed my blogspot comment test. Some blogspot blogs don't allow non-blogspot bloggers to leave comments which I find extremely frustrating!
  31. blackzero85
Is my template that old fashioned? I am using blogger's default template and getting advices from my readers to change my template. >_>

    Is my page load slow?
    1. DocNicole
Your page loaded quickly for me. I am not a fan of the template because I like something clean and blank behind the words so I can concentrate on what I am reading. When in doubt always listen to your readers...the people you are blogging for!

Thanks for writing that article on plagiarism...I have had a dandy time with it already!
  32. snowberry
    Hi Doc!

I'm looking for some fresh, nice yet not very fancy blog skins. Could you suggest any free downloads? I'm on blogspot, "http://www.myburntdiary.blogspot.com"

Oh and my 'recent viewers' widget from blog catalog never seems to record any visitor although i see a live traffic on my 'live feedjit' widget.

    Help Pls!
    1. DocNicole
Hmm...I am not sure which downloads work best for blogspot. Maybe you should post a discussion asking other bloggers for suggestions because I know with wordpress alot of the themes that are free are total crap and don't actually work.

I would move away from the black because black is the bloggers kiss of death unless you are blogging about anarchy or depression.

Where is your subscribe button dear? You have beautiful writing and people will want to subscribe to it. Sign up with feedburner asap! Be sure to have the subscribe features available in the top right section.

Maybe work on publishing your own books and use your blog to develop and audience before doing that. If you wrote a novel I would buy it after reading some of your beautiful thoughtful, well written posts. You have real talent!!! You can eventually advertise your novel on your blog page...

      carriebradshaw.com for instance.

Don't put quotes around your link or it won't show up as a hyperlink!

As for the problem with the BC widget...I noticed that I am the only one on your mybloglog too. Maybe these aren't installed properly. I have few computer skills so can't help with that...hopefully you can ask someone with some technical savvy.

Your alexa ranking is 400K so I think you should be having visitors showing up on there. Maybe you should post a discussion asking people to stop by your page and see if they show up on the widgets.

Good luck! I am sure we will see your book on the New York Times best seller list someday!

Is my blog functional/easy to navigate or cluttered?
    1. DocNicole
Your blog is really funny! Great content. To clean things up a bit I would downscale the pictures you use to a uniform size and always align them to the left or right...never in the middle. You have celeb gossip magazine like content so I would work towards converting your site eventually to a theme kind of like what is going on at pointlessbanter.net

I don't think the way your blog is set up really showcases all the great content. I would re-design the top banner, so that it says "Boughetto News" in BIG letters and then has your tagline under that. You need to brand your site with the word "Boughetto"...and the banner makes it tough to read the name of your site. I would ditch the google search button because it is distracting and doesn't invite the reader in to your content....unless you are making a ton of money off of it...your call.

The createspace ad is awkward and looks like it is a partly concealed banner ad.

You have a lot of fun ideas and great content, I just think that the other stuff in the sidebars is visually distracting me away from it.

Spend some time reading the top articles on Digg.com in your category and see how the professionals set things up. Mimic that the best you can because the kind of stuff you write will be popular on digg if the site looks more like a professional celeb gossip column.

I hate to say this...but I am just trying to be honest...so I would do a complete site overhaul and really clean things up. If you aren't making any money with your blog right now you are best off to take down any unnecessary widgets...clear the clutter and showcase your fab content to build a readership. Your alexa ranking is 1 million right now and you can easily be WAY more popular than that! Good luck hun!!!

I do like the idea of advertising some of your most popular posts, I would just only do the latest popular one that fell off the mainframe and turn the rest in to catchy title links.

Hey doc you are doing a great job! You should be commended for the social work that you are doing. If you get till here then take a look at my blog and tell me your first reaction....what needs fixing at first glance?

    indradhanush-laal.blogspot.com
    1. DocNicole
Well you know the more beautiful I can make the blogosphere the better it is for everyone else...lol

I really like your blog at first glance. I think the set up is basically PERFECT for a blogspot blog...

However after reading your content, and seeing that you are in to the science section of Digg...I am thinking that maybe you have outgrown this blog and you should consider creating your own domain with a wordpress blog and writing your scientific thoughts JUST on that while keeping this blog for personal blogging and other ideas.

I read the top science articles religiously on Digg as well and if you follow the format for the articles that are popular I think we should see you hitting the FP consistently. You are extremely smart and articulate in your thinking so I guess the only thing I would say at this point is that it is time to move on and really take this blogging stuff seriously.

You may also want to add a subscribe by email option as I won't subscribe by RSS... :C I'm a blogging dinosaur...I know...I know!
    2. lvs
      Wow amazing....i have a question....

what is the advantage of having a wordpress blog? Why not a paid blogger blog itself...Lot of people have been saying this in the discussion forum...but i dont understand the logic of having a paid blog?
    3. DocNicole
Well blogspot is hosting your blog for free I am guessing so you don't have to pay the ten bucks a month for the hosting, or buy a domain name...another ten bucks...but you also aren't getting all the benefits of hosting your own blog. A lot of people here have blogspot blogs and that is great, especially if you are blogging about your personal life or are just writing on the internet. But if you are looking in to doing it as a profession you should pick a domain name and host your own blog. The ten bucks in google ads you at least make will likely pay for itself while opening up a world of opportunity for those that are interested in writing as a profession. Plus it makes you look more professional and credible that your content is part of it's own website. The most successful professional blogs are "niche" blogs.

    Thanks in advance!
    1. DocNicole
It is BEAUTIFUL!!! I love the banner pic...the design is clean and simple, your content is fantastic...the only tip I would have to make your articles better is to downscale the pics to a standard smaller size and align them to the left...big pics in the middle are a key sign of a blog and not a professional website. Keep up the great work! I would be happy to feature one of your recipes on my site if you would like to work together let me know we can do a post called "The Healing Power of Moroccan Food" and feature the healthiest spices, etc...and explain how they are used in a recipe. You can post it on your site too if you want.

I just want to know what others think cause I know what I think.
    1. DocNicole
These blogs are beautifully put together...clean, well organized, have the most important widgets and info streamlined. I am impressed! I don't have any suggestions for improvement...believe it or not! Lol and I am usually pretty fussy about how things look. You should be very proud of them! :D
  39. CatherinetteRings
    Hi !

    I have this blog . catherinetterings.blogspot.com/

I use to work a lot on it .... I wouldnt mind knowing what i could improve next .

    Any ideas ?
    1. DocNicole
Hi Catherine! I love the rings they are really beautiful. I think maybe at this point it would be best for you to have a home page explaining about the rings, you, your biz, and that big block of rings at the bottom of your page, etc and then a link to your blog. If the goal of the site is to sell rings then I think you should only blog and write about jewelry, maybe healing powers of certain stones and such to improve your alexa ranking. Or you could just use the pic of a ring as the pic for each article you are talking about...or write about the ring...

I think there is just way too much stuff in the side bars. I would take a look at everything over there and decide which things ABSOLUTELY have to be in the side bar...and which things are just clutter taking up space. I am seeing a lot of things that are just unnecessary blogging things and are probably not helping your readers find your shop and buy your stuff.

Honestly I feel pretty overwhelmed when I visit your page, and if I found it on a random search, I would probably just leave the site. I am a reader, and if I found something to read I would subscribe...but I also didn't see a subscribe button.

One thing you could do is switch your theme to a double column side bar so that all that clutter is on one side of the page, so the content is more showcased. There seems to be some real inconsistencies in the content as well, which makes me as a reader feel confused to subscribe because I am not sure what I would be subscribing for.

I would have ALL your ring widgets on the top and put all the other crap that we bloggers use...like the entrecard especially on the bottom of the stack.

Ultimately, I think the top banner is beautiful, clean, and well designed and that the rest of the page should be designed around that to match. The jewelry you are selling is simply not being served justice by this page design. Hope that helps and doesn't hurt your feelings, I can see you have put a lot of time in to this but am just trying to offer my most sincere impressions so that you can be as successful as you deserve to be with this project.

DocNicole, Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment on my blog. I'll work on adding email subscription link to the blog soon.
  41. irtiza104
hey, i've recently added a recent comments widget. but the problem is sometimes it shows comments and most of time it doesnt. can u tell me sothing about it.

    www.lifeasiknowit22.blogspot.com
    1. DocNicole
Hmmm...I just left a comment and I am not showing up in that box. I don't know computer technical stuff, but sometimes reloading the widget cleans up the problem. Otherwise you can just leave it up to fate to decide what recent comments should be displayed! lol
  42. Scribblerchick
If you have a moment to look at my main blog, The Crab Chronicles, I'd love feedback. I am technically an idiot, though, and just use a canned template, so please no cracks about that. If I had the expertise I would do something different but I tried making my own banner and it looked idiotic, so I returned to the canned one...
  43. DocNicole
Gosh it sure would be nice if someone could design you a banner with the Cancer horoscope symbol...but overall I think it is well put together for a personal blog. I am technically an idiot too...so can't help in that realm but think you are off to a great start. My only tips at this point without knowing what your goals and intentions are with this site is to use the "more" tag which will shorten your articles on the mainframe and allow your readers to see all that you have to offer. I also would tighten things up by downscaling your pics so your page loads faster and always aligning them to the left at the beginning of your article to look more professional.
  44. katzeyes
I'm new at this, so I have no specific questions... I would just be happy for any suggestions. :-)

    katzeyes.blogspot.com

    thanks!!
    Kat
    1. DocNicole
Hi Kat! I really enjoyed your musings on olive oil...that was very funny! I think you are off to a great start! Is this a personal blog or do you have other goals in mind? I like things clean, white and simple...but at some point you might want to change your theme and add a custom banner. I like side bars on the right personally, but that is just because I am an avid internet reader and that is what my brain is most used to.

Something that really captures the vision of what your site is about...something with some beautiful eyes I am thinking. Once you choose to brand your site you should keep a consistent theme throughout all your socialnetworking sites with that same avatar.

Your alexa ranking is 400K which is great for a new blog. You may want to write some articles specifically for digg or stumbleupon and try to get some free marketing for that. Digg articles should be something newsworthy and stumble people love something funny or a quick list of "Top Ten...blah blah blah" This is the easiest way along with entrecard to get fresh visitors to your site. You are a fab writer! Keep up the great work, my only complaint is that there is no subscription option...you should go to feedburner.com and install one asap so people can read you from RSS or email. Add it above your entrecard as it is the most important feature of your site...getting people to come back.

      Good luck! Doc
    2. katzeyes
Hi! I sent you a thank you message! But I wanted to add that I have no idea what an Alexa ranking is...
    3. DocNicole
Great question! Sorry I didn't leave the link alexa.com will tell you how you rank compared to the top websites. The higher your number the worse...most new sites start with a rank in the millions and bloggers by frequently posting can quickly lower it to 400K...once you are around 100-200K you can make pretty good money depending on if you blog in a niche or if is for personal reasons.

Alexa ranking really isn't the be all end all...but advertisers certainly look at it when deciding whether they want to sponsor your website or not. You can get it down through advertising, or you can do a little work and spend some time making friends on different socialnetworkers and submitting articles to websites like digg and stumbleupon (well don't self submit...lol aska friend to do it for you and then submit theirs).

Anyways...don't obsess over the number...just check on it every week or month or so to make sure it is going down and not up. Google pagerank is also a big deal to some bloggers. Mine is terrible because I am a new website, but should improve over time. The higher the number the better...but with Alexa you want to be #1...I believe Myspace is the number one website on the internet currently.
  45. blackzero85
    Thanks nicole.
    1. DocNicole
      Anytime!
  46. okokokok
Doc Nicole, all suggestions would be fantastic. . .

    www.thehalflifeoflinoleum.blogspot.com/
    1. DocNicole
Hi okok!! Wow you are quite the writer! I really enjoyed your poetry. That is something that when someday you get all your best posts together you could publish a poetry book of "The Poetry of Linoleum" or whatever...and sell it yourself on your blog. In the meantime I would work as hard as you can to attract a large audience so you have a fan base to sell to...this is something I am intending to do with my website and use my articles to raise money for charity organizations that provide alternative medicine services to underserved populations like children without insurance and homeless people.

So--you can work your ass off for the rest of your life trying to get a book published by a publisher or you can be smart now and learn to market your own writings so you gain nearly 100% of the profits instead of the 1% you would get back from a publishing company.

Anways...sorry to ramble on about that...maybe you don't plan to write books someday, but I think you SHOULD is my point.

#2 Black is NOT the new black...I would ditch that black background asap. I think only about three genres of blogs should have black backgrounds...1) Space blogs 2)Anarchy blogs 3) and blogs about depression. Furthermore black is not what we associate with linoleum and we need to brand your site with the linoleum concept

#3 Branding: I love the name of your blog...it gets me scratching my head about a lot of things in that statement. It is witty and weird and very subtly smart. Perfect! Fabulous! Funny! Now let's make everything in the background look like linoleum to match. Maybe a beigey-yellow mottled background or just about anything that looks like some cheap 80's flooring in the background would be perfect. You want people to REMEMBER your site...People are visual...ugly plastic tiling (not too hideous please ;)) will give them a visual cue that reminds them of their visit...which then helps them remember you and your website name that much more.

      3. Avatar and screenname: I would consider "branding" all your socialnetworking sites/avatars/screennames with the same consistent linoleum concept that you develop for your blog (if you indeed to follow my branding advice and go there...totally up to you...I have just seen alot of what works and what doesn't and know people are lazy (me included) and it is easier for us to remember someone and their blog this way)

      4. BOOK! Holy crap you already have a book and I just wrote that long thing up there about how you need to write a book! Well...the MOST upsetting thing about this is that I went to your page and looked around to see what's going on and it took me this long to figure out that you have a book!

      5. Amazon.com affiliate program...get signed up for that so you can put the picture widget of your book in the upper right corner right above the subscribe features. Because you want people to buy your book I would trump my personal rule of always having your subscribe button as the top right thing and put your book up there instead. I don't know some people may disagree, but I think the most important thing is that your readers see you already have a book and they feel inspired to buy it...and you make 10% + whatever else you get from your book. I would title above the book widget "Buy My Book" unless you think that is too pushy. I would do it, but maybe I'm shameless. Also it says a lot for you as a blogger and makes your writing that much more credible and interesting if you have a book...in my honest opinion.

      5. Banner-again...something with the linoleum or some picture....or something that showcases the words of your blog name a little better. You want this to stand out.

      6. Alexa Ranking- you are in the 4 millions I believe and your site and writing can be so much more popular than that...if you want to put the time in to it get an entrecard.com account going. Place it above or below your other blognetworking badges. You have to drop cards on other bloggers sites to earn advertising credits for your blog, so it does take some work...but I think almost everyone on just this thread has an entrecard so you can easily network with these bloggers. Spend some time on stumbleupon.com because I think your poetry will take off their. Make a community and find me over there if you need some help with that.

      7. Blog Catalog widget: I would add the community badge to your page because it gives other bloggers confidence that you are part of their community...it also helps you make friends with the new readers that stop by...the best thing about blogging is that you get to interact with your readers...so don't ever lose site of that. Try to visit, and make friends, leave comments etc.

I am sure you will be a big success. Good luck!!
    2. okokokok
Dr. Nicole. thank you so much. . . I'm rather speechless with all your kind input.
    3. DocNicole
Sure thing ok...just want you to be successful with your book sales and writing. Keep me posted on how things work out!
    4. okokokok
I've been over to stumble and okokokok was already taken. I've sent you a friend request. . . Thank you again for everything.
    5. DocNicole
Feel free to send me a message when you have a new post!
  47. JMorris
    What's up Doc? Sorry, I couldn't resist! :-D

OK, here's a good one for you...

I'm returning to full-time blogging after a bit of a break. I have 4 active blogs, but only one of them is not actively monetized; that being my personal blog at jmorris.name/.

Back in March, I took all my ads off and announced that I was not going to run ads there. The main reason is that I could afford to do so at the time and that particular blog was not a vocational blog for me, but more my hobby.

Well, now that I'm blogging full-time, I could use the money that site could earn, but I don't want to run adsense or any other contextual ads. They perform very poorly with my target audience (the initiated 'Net savvy) Instead, I'd rather run ads for products I use and know will be useful to my audience.

So, with that long-winded explanation, I ask these questions...

Should I monetize jmorris.name/ with ads for products I personally have used? ~OR~ Should I stick to my original announcement of pulling off the ads and instead link to my money-making blogs to increase their traffic?

    Thank you in advance!!!
    1. DocNicole
Ok...I am going to be perfectly honest here, and treat this as if it were my very own situation and decide what to do (doing that without knowing what your other four blogs are and just guessing they are all totally unrelated)...

Your writing at your personal blog is fantastic, and has a great deal of potential, however we all know that personal blogs don't make money, niche blogs make money.

The nice thing about not monetizing your personal blogs is that it really takes the pressure off. You need a place where you can write about the things that matter to you, without having to worry that you are doing it for money. When you look at money statistics it can be very inhibitory to the growth of ones creativity.

I know tons of bloggers that blog on free sites and are obsessed with it and are creating 100k page views a month for these sites at least for NOTHING...and then there are bloggers that are ticked that they didn't hit the $100/month google adsense mark and feel frustrated and like all is completely hopeless.

So what I would do to keep the creativity at the personal site flowing strong, is add 4- 125 x 125 ads above the "save the developers" and title that "My Websites"...if people read your personal blog and/or they are a friend of yours that gives them the confidence to check out your other sites and is essentially free advertising...the more creative and positive you feel about the personal site...the more visitors will be inspired to check out your other websites...where you should then make more money from increased traffic.

I am not sure if you want to take the "no follow" tag out because I have heard that destroys your sites page rank...google heavily penalizing bloggers that do this, is just what I've heard. IDK for sure htough. But again if your site is not monetized with ads then maybe you don't even care what the rankings of the personal site are.

So that was a very long winded version of "yes, link to the money making blogs"...

If anyone else is reading this though...I would love to hear some other bloggers opinions because I can see how you could go either way with this.
    2. JMorris
      Thanks a ton Doc!

In my gut, I felt the same way. I just needed a bit of confirmation to get off the fence on this one. You make some very valid points and I love the suggestion about the graphic links. I think that's the route I'll go.

As far as the "nofollow" thing goes... Well, let's just say I'm an opinionated blogger and I've gone my rounds with Google before. ;-) I'm adamantly against Google's policy on nofollow, but that is a subject for another day. Good thing I'm an advocate for many of their products or I'd probably never see page one on any query. lol

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my question. It was most helpful! Let me know if I can ever return the favor.
    3. DocNicole
Sure thing...that was a tough question and I just went with my gut instinct on it. My gut got tight with the thought of ads on your personal page. We all need an outlet, and the best thing we can do is keep the right side of the brain happy. Keep the creativity flowing.
  48. Darkblaze37
Doc, what do you think of my blog? What changes should I make to it? (if any)
    1. DocNicole
Hi there- I like it at first glance, everything is clean and well put together. Your content is good. I am not sure what your blogging goals are, but your alexa rank is four million. You may want to get an entrecard.com to lower that. Learn to align your pictures to the left, not middle to look more professional. Wow you are quite the artist! I'm impressed. People at Stumbleupon.com like pictures a great deal so I would form a community there so friends can find your website and stumble your stuff (don't self submit though or be spammy) let it happen naturally.
  49. affiliazionefacile
    Hi DocNicole!
I'm italian blogger and i don't ask to you nothing about my contents (are in italian language but if you want you can translate them with an apposite widget in my blog) but i would like to know something about the rest of the structure of my blog: like colors, font, images and more.

    please write me all :

    here is my blog's address
    affiliazionefacile.blogpost.com

    thanks for all.

    bye bye
    1. DocNicole
Looks good to me! Very clean and simple, but you have the format down for putting your posts together. If your goal is to make money off google ads you may want to move those above the other stuff on your sidebar...ads above the fold will get more clicks. Put the stuff that doesn't make you money at the bottom of the stack. Also, your traffic isn't that great so you could add an entrecard.com and get more visitors to your site. Your subscribe features should be in the top right corner.
  50. truetone
hey checkout my blog! i need to do some makeover by adding new template and using my own domain name.hope u would help me on it. trinityedusystems.blogspot.com
    1. DocNicole
Then you should buy a domain name like Technorats.com or Technorats.net and then have wordpress installed. I don't know how easily it is to transfer your blogs over to wordpress, but that is the basic first step. I would avoid black too...black is the worst choice for a website.
  51. Starchitect
Does my blog say ARCHITECTURE to you?

    www.hermanourbano.tk
    1. DocNicole
Not really. I am not sure what the picture is on your banner...but to me it looks more like a cluttered office space. I would find a picture that accurately represents what kind of architecture you specialize in creating or discussing and use that as your banner. I buy pictures off shutterstock.com you can find something for a few bucks there that will really convey your message and help you brand your site with ARCHITECTURE.
    1. DocNicole
hi there- love the topic of your blog it is an important one!

I think your basic blog layout is good, but I don't see a subscribe feature which should be in the top right corner of your page. Add at feedburner.com

I think the most important thing you could do right now is get a nice clean picture banner added to your page. I would clean up the grammar though in your tagline as there are quite a few errors in it:

"my blog includes all those things which can encourage us with ways to success and way for reaching to our destinies"

ways and way need to be consistent...

Should probably be towards not "to"

This whole thing needs to be re-worded, frankly it is just a mess.

It is too wordy and the message is lost. Focus on the two key words being "success" and "destiny" and create something that simply has those two words in a simple sentence or phrase.

Always check in word that your grammar and spelling are correct before posting anything, and ask a friend for help editing things that stay static on your page. If there are errors in the banner that will quickly detour new readers.

Good work trying to keep people inspired and motivated dear, we all need that!
  52. PuertoRicanGuy
I am hoping I get some brutal truth about my blog. Good, Bad, would appreciate some pointers... Thanks
    www.puertoricanguy.com
    1. DocNicole
Your blog is pretty funny...but I don't know what I am voting for or where?!?!?!

I would change the banner to "The Puertrican Guy" and if you want votes for something make a banner in your right column explaining what for and where to click through to.

The subscribe features should be moved up and you need to center your pictures left alongside your content.

Content is great though had me loling.

What is your home page? Why is the puertoricanguy.com not the home page of your blog? I find that confusing.

Your alexa rank is 7 million...you should read my advice above for marketing using digg, entrecard, and stumbleupon. Your stuff will do well on stumble.

i hope im not too late again..been wanting to get good remarks on how my blogs are like to other people..

They look very well designed to me for what you are doing. I think you should join Food Buzz and put their widget up on your page as well...it is a great way to find other fellow foodie bloggers. I would move the subscribe features to the top right of your columns and maybe think about entrecard.com to get more traffic to your site as I have mentioned in previous comments on this thread. You don't have any comments. The best way to get comments is to leave comments. Find some other people that write recipes and leave comments on their pages...like mine for instance kitchentablemedicine.com I usually leave comments for everyone that comments me, unless they are stopping by to ask questions that take up a great deal of my time.

  55. digitalbodega
    Hi Doc Nicole,
what can you say about my Beauty Blog and whatdo I need to improve on? Thanks!
    lipstickaddict.blogspot.com
    1. DocNicole
Great name and niche for your blog! Niche ads do well with adverts but you need to move the google ads up and the rest of the stuff in your widget down.

Your blog is taking forever to load. You may want to go through your widgets and remove everything except ads, blogcatalog, technorati, and subscription features. There is too much over there.

The banner needs to be redone. It is way too big. The only way to make money with ads is to have them above the fold without making your site look like total spam. The banner should be about a third of the width of what it currently is. From a color standpoint I don't like the red lipstick with the pink writing over it. Also, I don't care for the tagline being "contact me for advertising at my gmail account". You will never make money with a blog until you establish a readership.

I actually think anyone without a significant readership NOT making money off google ads should just pull all of them and clean up their blog until they are established enough to monetize the site. Visitors need to know "What is in this for me?" when they come to your site and you have about 60 seconds of less to let them know. Step outside of your blog and look at it as if you were a visitor coming there from a random google search.

You should also get an entrecard.com campaign going to improve your traffic.

Sorry to be a little bit hard on you, but I really think that with this concept you could be very successful, and want to see you make that happen with this project. You may also consider an affiliate account with amazon.com and have pictures of your favorite lipsticks for sale in the posts or columns.

I liked minimalist theme..just plain white..so that any pictures in posting will come out focused. What do you think.?..here's some of my food recipes blog..Awaits for your precious advice : (thank you in advance)

Hi there! Your recipe sites look great I would just have a few suggestions. I like the white clean look as it makes it easy to read and navigate. I think you have done a great job with ad placement. You may want to consider moving your subscribe buttons to the top right of the column unless you are making a ton from google ads. I think building and establishing a readership usually comes before monetization though. You will be more successful in the long run if you can keep people coming back. Love what you did with your fav things at Amazon and hope other people reading this thread will use that as a good example of what to do.

The only design flaw I see is how the text is starting at the bottom of your pictures. I think it should ideally be aligned to the right-top of the pictures, but if you can't get that to work (would need to barf out a few more sentences to fill space) then the pic should be at the top with the text running under it.

Your alexa ranking is 13 million though so you really need to work on marketing your site. You should join foodbuzz.com and entrecard.com and stumbleupon.com...you can read my comments to other people above on how to lower your alexa.com rankings...without visitors to the site there will be no one to click on those ads.

You can also do some guest recipes at my site too if you would like to have exposure to my audience and get some backlinks.

Hi, please check out our blog. What can you say about it?

    www.askaboutloveandsex.com
    1. DocNicole
Your blog is GREAT for a lot of reasons, so don't get me wrong when I act a little nit picky. First of all your content is great and that is the most important thing here.

I really like the general page layout and design, but you should spend a day cleaning out the clutter in your side columns so your page will load faster. If it doesn't drive traffic to your page, show you are part of the BC community or make you money then it has GOT to go...a slow page is the bloggers kiss of death.

Also, I just don't like the yellow bar under your banner. I don't think it goes that great with the banner and my brain associates that exact color with spam websites that use a lot of yellow to get you to buy their crappy ebook. I would get rid of that and try switching it to the color in that red heart to see if that makes it look more continuitous and LOVE like!

Great content though...really enjoyed your advice in your articles. Let me know if you end up making any changes and I will check it out.

You can find me on stumbleupon if you need help marketing your articles as I think the community there would be best for you to focus on and perhaps even purchase a stumbleupon campaign. (Just don't self submit people HATE that and it is against TOS...)

Hope that was helpful! Overall you have a fabulous blog! Just my honest opinion.

Hi! I know you've already reviewed my blog, so I understand if you need to get to the new reviews first :-) but when you get a second I have another question.

You mentioned clean streamlined looks for blogs -- how do I maintain that while still monetizing my blog? I've added a few ads, when you get time can you look and see if it looks cluttered? katzeyes.blogspot.com

Also, about niche blogging. How do you choose a niche? I just blog about life in general... I'm guessing that's not a niche, lol. I know that niche blogs tend to do better but I'm just clueless.

I have an idea for a new niche blog for you!! haha.
    1. DocNicole
First of all the new banner is STUNNING! Hallelujah that looks good!

Second of all...the ads look fine to me. Really the best place to make money with ads is above the fold and in your blog articles. However, blogging is not a quick fix make money in a day set up and I think most bloggers error on the side of too early monetizing when they don't have any established readership and this results in loss of future potential readers because their site looks like total spamola. So, I would not worry at all about monetizing a website until it is around the 200K mark with alexa. Even then you may not make much money and the obsession over making a hundred bucks off google adsense each month may be defeating the initial purpose of what you set out to do.

Do you have a hobby? If so blog about products in that hobby. Photographers can write reviews on cameras.

What do you think my new niche should be? lol
    2. katzeyes
      Blog consulting, hellooooo! :-)
    3. katzeyes
And thank you so much for the comment on my banner! I kinda like it myself.

  60. happyfoodgirl
Yes, I need some help. I've grown incredibly lazy and have lost motivation for updating my blog. Maybe if someone takes a look at it and sees where I need to improve, I'll grow a little spark.
    1. DocNicole
Ok your blog is hilarious, and a breath of fresh air from all the positive thinking personal development crap I read every day... so I don't think the problem is in your content. My confusion is the difference between blog title and domain name. Did you start the blog out with a different intention to write about food? If so, maybe you aren't feeling good about the blog because it has deviated from it's original intention. Just a thought...but yes, one post a month is not going to cut it.

I would sit down and think about what you REALLY REALLY REALLY want to do and then structure this blog around that.

If you just want to write about people that suck...and when you suck that could be it...but sometimes we lose interest in a project because it isn't exactly what we want to be doing, and if that is the case then this disinterest in your blog should be seen as an opportunity to give it a makeover. Create exactly what you want with it. What does that look like?

Looks like you have been in the blogosphere for ten years though so you certainly don't need advice from me on socialnetworking or page layout. Your page design looks perfect.

Ad placement is an issue on your blog. The google ads on the left lower column should be moved up below the subscribe feature on the right. How much money are you already making with this setup? Your alexa.com ranking is in the millions...so I am guessing not very much. You need TRAFFIC to get people to your site to click those ads. If your site is about advertising you should then cater to bloggers and write reviews about your experiences with the different ad campaigns and affiliate programs. Don't just tell us about it. Tell us what you like and don't like about it. Be the critical eye for us.

You have to build up a readership before you can make money on a blog. Just posting a blog and some google ads is not going to make you money. Which is what most people try to do with this stuff.

You also need to add friends to your community...your widget is empty! That looks bad, like you are not that popular. You can start by adding the people on this thread to your friends and community...

I think you have too much stuff in your side panels though. This could be ameliorated by switching to a double column layout or just eliminating the programs that aren't making you any money and focusing all your attention on the ones that are. Or you could strip the ads from your page and spend a few months building a community, readership, and following so you are a trusted voice in the community before monetizing your site.

People need to know how much you care before they care how much you know...about anything.
  62. tanvirhassan
Recently because of bags of articles into my blog,it takes time to load.I have seen some blog which are really good to visit. In the front page there is only article. How i can do that? www.atozrelationship.blogspot.com
    1. DocNicole
I think it is the pictures that are slowing things down. You have too many pictures. The first article on your blog I don't even understand because it is just a string of pictures...pointless, get rid of it. I would delete it and only post one picture per article. The article below that one should have the picture scaled down in size, and aligned left so it looks more like a magazine.

I don't know how to make one article show up with your blog software program because I run in wordpress, but the other option is to use the "more" tag after about a paragraph of an article so that more articles show up on that page and your readers can decide what they like.

Subscribe should be at the top, ads that make you money next...I would re-arrange your side bar.

Go to digg.com and stumbleupon.com and read the articles in the relationship category to see how people that are extremely successful with this genre do it.

I have no idea...but they are hideous, difficult to read, and should be avoided when at all possible unless you are blogging about depression, space, or anarchy.
  64. TheWorldsDresser
If you have a moment, please let me know your thoughts about the layout of my page. The ad at the top is going to be removed by Tripod soon. If you're completely swamped with requests, no worries - thanks! theworldsdresser.tripod.com/makeup/
    1. DocNicole
Overall I really like the layout and design...I don't even think that ad needs to be removed unless it isn't making you any money, but I have a couple tips for your blog posts. I REALLY don't like the watermark on your pictures. If you really are worried about people stealing your pictures then it can be added discretely to the bottom of the picture...but it should not be in the center of the picture. Also you need to always have enough content to wrap around the pictures. If you don't have a few paragraphs to write about a picture then just don't post it. The pictures should all be downscaled to one consistent size whenever possible...never leave them dangling there with a sentence awkwardly placed next to it. I see this is a pretty new blog and know how tough it is to figure these things out at first, but learning some consistency is key to keeping the page look clean and professional. If it were my blog I would re-do all the pictures without watermarks on them. You need to please your reader, and if your reader isn't happy they won't come back. Every time you make a post think...what will my reader like about this? What is it teaching them? How am I helping someone use this product or learn how to use this product so they will be inspired to buy this product. You can start an amazon.com affiliate program...or maybe sephora has one as well.

Of course I am naturally a fan of anything related to beauty products so want to see you be successful with this, you also need a banner so you can brand your site with your site name.

You may want to read above for some of my advice to other people about socialnetworking and what nots to get you started in the right direction.

Good luck hun! Keep me posted.
    1. DocNicole
Wow you have a lot of blogs! How do you keep up with them all?

How well is your google adsense going? If you are not making much with that you may want to consider yanking the ads and promoting your website, building readership, and lowering your alexa rankings. Looks like your sites are ranking in the 20 millions or so which is terrible and if the goal is to make money you need TRAFFIC! The best way to get attention for free is to work on making a great readership...which you can easily do as a writer, and joining digg and stumble and entre like I have mentioned above.

Your readers may be put off by all the google ads everywhere and thus not motivated to return. "What's in it for me?" is what every single person stopping by your site will ask themeselves and if they immediately see a bunch of google ads then they may click away. Big websites and newspapers can get away with this, but not brand new websites.

The content and layout of your sites is not the problem...getting readers there is. My concern is that you may be spreading yourself a bit too thin with all these blogs and I am not quite sure why you have so many!

A successful blog requires daily or at least every other day updates and you may not be able to be successful with any of these if you are spread too thin. On your personal blog you may want to make 125 x 125 pixel ads that advertise your other blogs and ditch the google ads. personal blogs don't make much money but are a great way to keep up with friends and get people interested in you.

The Indian food blog is a great nich that is not overdone and if I had all these blogs I would focus all my attention on just one or two...but that is my opinion without knowing why you have all these blogs and what your goals are with them.

Hope that helps...you make great content, it is just now a matter of getting people to read it. Holler if you need help at the socialnetworking sites.
  65. roentarre
Do you like to have a look at mine?

Is it easy to browse through or not?

    www.roentarre.com/Blog.aspx?id=4
    1. DocNicole
Wow James! You really have a beautiful website and are an amazing photographer. I enjoyed browsing your photos.

Your blog is great and easy to look through. You may want to start an affiliate program with Amazon and feature your favorite cameras for sale and make 10% of the sales. Right reviews titled "Product Review: Nikon 563826" so that people can find them easily when they are searching. Your opinion as a photographer on equipment is a huge draw.

The problem with your blog right now is traffic. Your traffic rating are not as good as they could be considering the quality of your website and photos.

You may want to participate in "Wordless Wednesday" and give a photo away each week as a prize to the reader that comes up with the best caption.

Remember that photographers have a LOT of leverage in the blogosphere because they have pictures that other bloggers will want to use. If you let bloggers know that they have permission to use your photos in their articles as long as they link back to your main website and say "Photocredit: James Wei" that really gets the word out there...helps bloggers have use of great pictures...and gives you a ton of backlinks in exchange that will improve your websites rankings.

The disadvantage is that your pictures may be more easily stolen and put all over the internet. You can add a small watermark in the corner that says Photography by Roenterr.com ...but offering your pictures for use by other bloggers helps you make friends and advertises you for free...and improves your traffic rankings. You can post a discussion announcing it at Blog Catalog.

That is what I would do if I was a photographer. It looks like your goal is to get new photography jobs in your area, but improving your traffic rankings will ensure that you come up on page one of google when someone enters "photographer in seattle" or whatever...

Sure keep me posted if you have any other questions. That stuff was really hard for me to figure out at first, but simple once you get it down.
  67. digitalbodega
Doc Nicole, Thank you so much for your advice! I did moved my ads up and took out some which are not doing well. I will change my official logo soon because my blog was selected with TOTAL BEAUTY and i have to submit my logo. And yes you're right, the red lipsticks with the pink writing on top doesn't look good either. I have to establish readership yet. Regarding the widgets I did that for link building as part to increase traffic. I tried to register with Entrecard.com but the logo has to be 125 x 125 so I have to fix things first then get back to Entrecard. I will also do so with Amazon. Thank you so much Doc Nicole I really appreciate every comment you did for me, no it's not harsh, it's just being frank.
    1. DocNicole
Glad that helped! Excited to see the new changes. It is a great topic and you will do well with it. You can go to photobucket.com and use the advanced photoediting services to make a 125 px avatar. Submit that to entre and then you should be in biz. Good luck!
  68. lvs
I am amazed that you have kept on going.....I have been following your progress with the blogs here and I must say this is a tough job...your comments are so thorough and helpful....Obviously you have learnt a lot doing this....

Hey Doc why dont you tell us why you are doing this and what you have learnt in the process of doing it.
    1. DocNicole
Hi Ivs! I am amazed too! I was bored the other day and thought instead of focusing on my own problems (with my website being down for maintenance and hacking attacks) that it would cheer me up to focus on helping other people with their problems.

Everyone needs a friend that they can ask "Does this make my butt look fat?" and the friend will honestly answer "Yes, but we can fix it"
or... "I am not fond of that, try this one on instead".

I ask a lot of questions around here and have really grown to rely on this community for support, friendship, and just silly entertainment and laughs. Everyone here really means a lot to me, and I know how frustrating it can be when you aren't sure what changes you should make on your blog or if they look good.

I surprised myself with how much I actually know about blogging. That is what I ultimately learned. As an avid internet researcher and blog reader, I have developed some pet peeves about internet sites, and think that the more we can do to improve things the better.

Also, we are all part of a community here, and the success of the individual always relies on the success of the community. The more others can offer their talents and insight to build up others in the community...the better off they will be as well. A lot of bloggers register their websites here as if it is just a blog directory. But BC is not just a blog directory. It is a community....

I like giving my opinion on people's websites because it is a fun thing to do to get me in my creative side of my brain instead of just reading scientific research articles all day. I love all the possibilities that blogging gives for individuals. Really it is the American dream that you can set up and online business relatively out of NOTHING and if you create good content, and provide a service for your readers you will be financially rewarded.

Blogging is not for the faint of heart though, and in doing this I have realized a lot of people expect to throw up a blog and some google ads and make it rich. Although that is a great long term goal, we have to think more sensibly and make sure we have the basics under control, after a while I just kind of got a basic checklist in my head that goes like this:

      1. Subscription feature: The MOST important thing on the bloggers page...without readers coming back...you are nothing. Everytime someone stops by your page and can't easily subscribe...you lose a reader. Your readers are your customers and they need it to be EASY. The best websites have continuity and I have found that most successful ones keep their RSS buttons in the upper right hand corner. This should trump just about anything else on the page...especially the "search site" feature.

      2. SPAMOLA! Some sites are trying to monetize when they don't have a readership. The NY times and Washington Post and such can get away with over-monetizing the site because readers will fight their way through the adverts to find the content. If you are just Joe Schmoe blogspot blog though people will click on. If it doesn't get you readers or make you money then take it down! Too many widgets and stuff like that just clutter stuff up and slow down the load time.

      3. Google adsense: If I go to any website off a google search and the first thing I see is a bunch of google ads plastered over the top of the page then I just click on. I am always researching things and my brain has learned that these sites are usually spam sites that import other bloggers content. If your google adsense is making less than $100 a month then you should re-consider posting these kinds of ads ALL OVER because it is detouring future readers...aka your customers.

      4. Widgets and cluttermania: If I was Queen of the blogosphere I would only allow in the widgets of all blogs a subscription feature, an about me section, a Blog Catalog community badge so people can see your friends, and the adverts that make you money. If it doesn't drive readers back to you, create you "A LOT" of money ($100 bucks a month for six hours a day of work is not A LOT of money)...or show you are part of a community...then it just has to go! LESS IS MORE! When you are popular you can have adverts spammed all over your page...until then you need to build an audience.

      5. Problem: blogging for yourself and expecting to make money! OMG everyone is not thinking outside themselves. If you want to blog for your family or friends that is GREAT and I think you SHOULD!!! Just don't expect to make money off of it. Everytime you post something think "What does this GIVE to my readers?" If your answer is "entertainment" then you might want to think again. Not everyone is entertained by personal accounts. Readers are selfish...there are 20 million + websites for them to go to...why should they care to go to yours?

      6. Black backgrounds are hard to read. If you have a black background and are not blogging about depression, anarchy, or space then you need to ditch it for something that is easier on your readers eyes.

      7. Not posting your BC widget, or posting too many community widgets: Less is more! More is not more. Really only Blog Catalog and Mybloglog, stumbleupon, digg, myspace, twitter, reddit, technorati, and facebook should be added to the blog. Make the icons all the same size so it looks professional.

The problem though is that most people don't have time to keep up with that many communities. I have chosen Blog Catalog because I think it is the best. I don't like Mybloglog. Absolutely show your readers that you are part of a community! Your participation in a community gives people confidence in you. Just don't over do it. Plus all that stuff takes forever to load.

      8. When in doubt keep things basic. A basic white page with a clean blog title is really all you need. White is easy to read off of, and some subtle use of any color around it works well. Pick colors that go along with your blog.

      9. Brand the Blog! Not having a clean blog title at the top is one of the biggest flaws I have found. You have about 30-60 seconds to impress your reader or they will move on. If they move on, but still wanted to remember you...you have to leave some lasting impressions...branding your blog with it's title is the best way to go about doing that.

      10. Not properly promoting books for sale....If you've got it FLAUNT IT! I have come across a couple blogs that are there with the intention to promote books and I don't see widgets of the books anywhere! Blog readers are readers and they want to read your book. It also creates notoriety so have it predominantly displayed on the page.

      11. Spending more time on socialnetworking and blog design than writing. I see a lot of people on here that are on BC day in and day out but never update their blog?!?!?! This confuses me. The blog needs to be updated every day or every other day with quality content...BEFORE socialnetworking.

      12. Stop and look at your blog like you are a reader: again...if it seems difficult to navigate, if the first few blogs interest only a limited number of people...(especially if it is just the writer)...don't expect people to come back.

      13. Not having comments turned on as an option. What is the point of having a blog if there is no option to comment? If you don't want to moderate comments, or respond to comments then you may want to find a different profession or hobby. Most A list bloggers don't respond to their comments, but without reader interaction it is nearly impossible to get to that list. If you have the time to be in BC discussions, then you have the time to moderate blog comments and at the very least thank your readers for stopping by.

      14. Traffic: Most blogs on here had terrible traffic ratings. I know alexa is not the be all end all...but it does help you determine how you are effectively growing your website. Kevin at pointlessbanter.net has created an immensely popular website just using socialnetworking. It can be done. You don't have to sink a ton in to advertising if you are willing to put the time in to it.

      15. Writing for Digg and Stumbleupon: If people simply examine the content and design of the front page items popular on these socialnetworking sites they can easily improve their blog and copy these professional formats. People love "Top Ten __________" lists!!! Make them for your genre. Make simple tips for stumble...make people laugh, or create a news worthy article for Digg.com to improve traffic and get free customers. Creating this content may take a bit of time but will pay off in the long run. Don't have every article you write submitted to these sites. Trust me. It's NOT worthy...and I mean that for EVERYONE...submit key articles designed JUST for that site and then ask your friends for help with promoting it. Promote their stuff and the stuff you like.

      16. Not aligning pictures to the left or right. NEVER EVER EVER align pictures to the middle. Don't post pictures that are bigger than 320px unless you have a pretty good reason to do so. Big pictures look extremely unprofessional and without proper alignment they just become garish and kindergarteny. Learn the basic HTML code needed to ameliorate these problems to compete with the top dogs on the internet.

      17. Relying on adsense when an affiliate program may be more lucrative. Most affiliate programs pay around 10%. You can google "affiliate program and HERBS" for instance if you are looking for something that will make you money in the alternative medicine genre. Every genre has something that an affiliate program will work well with. Amazon.com is a simple one...don't over do it though. I would be more inspired to buy your "favorite book" or "favorite product" than browse though a whole store.

      18. The about me page: "Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care" Be sure people know what your website is about, what you are about, and why you are doing this. Be honest when posting affiliate program links and let your readers know that their purchases support the functioning of your website. Some people may go out of their way to purchase something from you if they know it helps you out. Just be honest! It's business people.

      19. Do what you love and the money will follow. You can't love everything though. Pick a niche and focus on that. I write about alternative medicine at my site, and have to stay on topic in order to please my sponsors. If you have a niche blog you should work on establishing and growing a readership before you go to bigger companies and ask for sponsorship. When people see the service you are offering they will naturally be inclined to support it. Direct sponsorship advertising will be more lucrative in the long term than google adsense. It is a win-win situation. Your sponsors are paying an arm and a leg through google and you are doing them a favor by offering to advertise, review, and promote their products. Your website is MUCH more powerful than you think. Build it up strong and then use it as leverage to get free products at the very least!

      20. Checking out websites and helping out fellow bloggers if fun, and as long as I have the free time to do it, am happy to offer my opinion. Don't hesitate to ask for help. Ask me, or post a BC discussion.

Subscribe to blog coaching sites like Problogger.net and onecoolsite.wordpress.com/...and www.bloggingwithoutablog.com to continue to grow and be updated on the latest and greatest in blogging.

No...never quit Jack! What are your goals though with this website? To sell your books? I think that you should join amazon.com or barnes and noble affiliate programs and put your books for sale in the side bar. There is a lot that can be done.

Don't ever quit!! You are a tremendous writer, and the problem may be that your blog doesn't quite showcase all that. If you are interested in giving it a makeover I have some ideas on how you may be able to promote the books.

Great way to use your talents. Laughter is the BEST medicine afterall...you will do well with this. I would read bloggers like pointlessbanter.com and deadrooster.com a few of my favorite funny bloggers in your genre.
  74. JamieLay
Ok, can you give me any feedback on my blog? Color, content, load time? Thanks Doc!
    1. DocNicole
Hi, JamieLay! Love your avatar first and foremost, I have seen you around here and it always cracks me up!

Ok which blog? You have two...let's start with muffin top killers...lol hilarious title I love it!!! Oh I am locked out of that one...hmm...let me know when it is viewable.

The suburban blog is great! I would probably just downscale the banner so you can at least see individual blog titles and the start of the blog. The reason for this is that people on socialbookmarking sites like digg, stubmleupon and what not are very lazy and don't want to actually have to scroll down to see if the article their friend sent them interests them. The banner is hilarious though...and I love the tagline.

Ok your content is absolutely hilarious, I know what it is like to have to get stuck with the reject spinning bike. Great content! You are an engaging well written blogger. I don't see a subscription option. You may want to install feedburner to the top right corner.

I love the style continuity of the pictures you choose, the fifties housewife gone wrong feel is very entertaining. I am not sure the black background really brings all those pics together though. Maybe something light yellow or grey would work better...maybe even a brown. What is your favorite color? I would go with that. This is your personal page, not mine...but black is tough on your reader's eyes as well so I would rethink that.

Let me know if you make any changes...I added you to my reader!
    2. JamieLay
Aww thanks Doc...do you also prescribe medications? LOL. Sorry it took so long to respond, but I thought you had given up on this thread. Thanks for taking the time..I will unlock the "Muffin Top Killers"..you can join if you want too!
I will take take your thoughts into consideration...and add you as my friends..I am knew here..so I am a bit rusty;)
  75. luvikavi
    hmm o.k.

What do you think I can improve? www.kavitameanspoetryinhindi.blogspot.com I already know I want to have a column on both sides of my blog, but my xml layout is not structured that way.
    1. DocNicole
Oh my gosh I just read your post on the importance of dental health while eating a handful of chocolate chips. Hold on...I have to go brush my teeth now. I am getting cavities as we speak! lol

Ok...but seriously. I love your content. Well put together, looks like you really have the basics of blogging down, so I would maybe just suggest a few nit picky things.

I am not a fan of black backgrounds. I think white or red would also go well with your theme and it would be easier on your reader's eyes.

Your blog is beautifully put together! You should be really proud of it...wow did you design this template yourself? I really like your banner, I just think you should shrink it to about half that size for the same reason I mentioned in the comment to the blogger above you...maybe even a 1/3 of that size if you can make it work. The pattern is great, and the quote is great.

Just a few little tweaks, the content is great...and of course this is YOUR blog not mine so have fun with it and do what makes you happy. If you love black then stick with it.
  76. deejames
help on my blog template.. my "comments" link is invisible.. i know i have edited some of the css code the last time.. maybe i made something wrong but dont know where to find it..

    deejames.blogspot.com
    1. DocNicole
Oh gosh honey I don't know a thing about code! Sorry, I would suggest you start a new discussion asking that exact question. That is what the choice "blogging help" is for. There are a lot of really smart, helpful people around here.
    2. deejames
thanks anyway, i have fixed it on my own.. with the help of google..
  77. makemesomemoney
    Hi there,
    My blog is here www.makemesomemoney.co.uk

How can I make it better? Thanks in advance!
    1. DocNicole
I think the only problem with your blog right now is that you don't have any readers! I would take down the feedburner stat that says you have 16 readers because it isn't good advertising. You need comments and activity to liven your blog up. The content and theme are great and not the problem.

I try to comment everyone that leaves me a comment (kitchentablemedicine.com) shamless plug...lol

You should also read problogger.net as they just did a recent really great post on how to get more discussion going on your blog.

Blogs need questions at the end to get the ball rolling. That is what makes them more interesting than just a newspaper article.

Good luck! You will do great...
  78. Phillyzero
If you have the time, I'd like some input on my site design and any advice to improve it. Thanks!

    blackrussiancomics.com
    1. DocNicole
Looks like you are off to a great start! Comic strip sites do really well on stumbleupon.com so anytime you have something new just holler at me and I will submit it for you (don't submit your own stuff it is against the TOS and will get you banned)

Check out starcasm.net (also on this thread) and do a google search for "Saturday Morning Cereal" blog as the first one is also new, and the second one is extremely popular just in the last six months.

If I had your talent I would work really hard to make a great comic strip that explains what your site is all about and make that in to the banner. Something that tells people to subscribe too...(you need an RSS feature not just email).

You are clearly very talented so this project should be nothing but a huge success. Be sure to always include your domain name on your comics and when a new one is out you can email it as a "press release" to various news sites that may want to use it. Free publicity!
  79. DiggaDominus
My Dominion ( dadominion.com/blog/ )is approaching 6 months old, yet I don't have the legions of sycophants I feel I deserve. What do you suggest Doc?

Thanks for the advice in advance. Join my social network and I'll make you ambassador to the catalog
    1. DocNicole
You poor thing! You don't have enough minions to do your work for you and sycophants telling you how fabulous and beautiful your blog is every day. Trust me, I feel your pain. lol

Well your content is great, I would just downscale some pics and align them to the left...I would also take the tagline above the banner down and integrate it in to the banner so that you get more of your page showing above the cuff. The banner should only take up about a thumbs length's width of your page.

What kinds of topics do you most commonly blog about? I would add that to your about me page so people know more of what to expect from you.

You don't have any comments! Are you leaving comments for other people? It takes comments to make comments. Start commenting people with blogs like yours and see if that gets it started off. Also spending time at digg and stumbleupon to learn about popular posts in your genre will help you get a feel for what will be a hit at these sites. Craft posts specifically with either stumble or digg in mind and submit ONLY those posts. Your friends should pick up the rest, as long as you are doing the same for them.

yes...yes...dear you will have to be a bit of a minion at first, but your writing and humor is clever and witty so the rest should eventually fall in to place. Six months is nothing for a blog. To build a really successful blog you have to think long term. Do start thinking now as to how you want to grow this vision, if you really want to blog for fans and notoriety then strip down your google ads if they aren't making you any money. Work on building a readership first and then consider monetizing the blog.

Enjoyed my visit! Let me know if you make any changes so I can check them out Doc
    2. DiggaDominus
Your saying my content is great is worth the droolings of a dozen fans. Such kindness will not be forgotten.

Comments I can do, no problem. Digg and Stuble Upon are resources I haven't fully exploited - they will be made to serve.

Thank you so much for the advice and time spent. I do have one minion/partner, my Site Seneschal (webmaster), we will discuss your insights.
  80. luvikavi
Thanks doc nicole@ your advise. I actually picked black because back is my color lol, just check out my wardrobe. I got the template from an online site, wish I actually made it. As for the banner, I'm not sure how to make it smaller, I guess I'll have to jiggle around with the code, lol!
    1. DocNicole
well if black is your thing then go with it! None of the suggestions are urgent of course, it is always good though to have some ideas on how to grow your blog for the future. I subscribed to your feed because the content made me laugh...and happy to not have kids right now! yikes...lol
    1. DocNicole
Yes, I think I already reviewed your blog above James...

You do need to resize the pics on your blog. Since you are a professional photographer I am going to be hard on you and say that the pics should always be the same size...the latest one is way to big and going off the blog template. I would fix that asap.
  81. digitalbodega
Doc Nicole, hope you can check on my blog if it's better I made some changes and there are new ads posted
    lipstickaddict.blogspot.com

    Thanks!
    1. DocNicole
yes it looks awesome! So excited. Great job!!! Love the new avatar...

Look out...hello! You are the lipstick queen of the blogosphere now...everyone will need to bow down.
  82. josephgelb
how do you combine wordpress scripts with a forum scrips on one site whether it be one thing or multiple sub domains of the pie
    1. DocNicole
Gosh...I don't know a thing about code. I ask crkian on my top friends or Time Thief...her blog may be able to answer your question. You can always post a separate discussion under "blogging help" I usually get a response right away from someone around here.
  83. Blabbergurl
Hi, please help! i've just created this blog and i don't seem to get much viewers...anything lacking? is it too simple or what's wrong ( sigh!) do i need to add more content wise?
    blabbermouthmoi.blogspot.com
    1. DocNicole
Hi there! I like the name of your blog. Very cute. looks like your sidebar is not showing up in the right place...may be a problem in your template. I do like the template though. You should install feedburner.com and have subscribe featured listed directly above your "about me" profile widget. As for getting more traffic to your blog, how bout starting with an entrecard.com account? Great way to find blogs to network with, comment on, etc...leave comments for other bloggers and they will eventually do the same.
    2. Blabbergurl
Thanks for your advice, you're a legend!
      Cheers!
  84. josephgelb
how does one i organize and design in phbb forum forum.xbangz.com
    1. DocNicole
I would post that as a separate discussion thread here under "blogging help".

Sorry don't know a thing about code.

does my blog make my butt look fat?

    tommybloggingsports.wordpress.com/
    1. DocNicole
Yes it makes your butt look fat...because it is too tight! lol

What are you doing blogging under the constraints of a wordpress.com account? you need to upgrade to your own domain name and hosting account at this point! Great sports news.
  86. annaswan
My question is simply one of taste, it's not technical, and you don't even have to visit my blog to answer. LOL I used a really minimalistic theme, because I present mostly news style articles. What's you opinion of blog bling? Should people really dress their themes up and use lots of color and graphics on information/news type blogs... or just stick to the minimal newspaper style?
  87. DocNicole
I think the more an information/news site can look like an information/news site the better. I am for that same reason switching to the revolutiontheme.com theme which is a magazine theme layout and will be keeping the simple white background. When it comes to delivering the news your words are your product and they will be showcased best in a white simple environment...just my honest opinion though.

Save the fancy sites for the stuff that needs it.

    Sincerely,

    Fellow fan of white websites.

I'm just wondering if someone can find bible prophecies or other encoded messages in my writing (i.e. "be sure to drink your ovaltine"). From time to time I feel as though Solux, the mantis alien (www.crystalinks.com/solux.html), is inspiring my writing - which probably explains why I tie things like Vercingetorix and his Gaulish hordes into posts about horse racing. You know how Solux can be about Gaulish history.
  91. asosaki

I would just like your general opinion on my blog. It's an advice column, and I'm new at this whole thing lol. Thanks!
  95. maxisangry
Do I have to join StumbleUpon and Reddit and Digg etc in order to allow people to submit my posts? I really hate those stupid things and I hate the Stumble toolbar. Also, I'm an idiot and my blog is stupid too.
  96. MrsBlog
ok, I am in to hear your oppinion.
