Au Pair Program

Have any of you had experience with an au pair program in the United States (or elsewhere), either as an au pair or a host family? I wrote about a few issues I've learned about (language4you.wordpress.com/2009/05/30/being-an-au-pair-in-the-united-states...), and I would be interested in hearing about others' experiences.
If you've never heard of the program, it is a way for people in one country to live in another and learn the language and culture while taking care of children. It's quite good, but it's also a cheap source of labor that can sometimes be exploitative.

I'm currently considering working as an au pair in Northern Europe. I think I'll probably just do nannying in the UK though...big bucks in some areas!
