Shameless blog promotion...I wrote an article about Autism. It's informative rather than an personal ancedote.

I saw the movie "Vaccine nation" on Googlevid. Scary.

Read my article. It hopefully clears up the misinformation that's out there.

Good summary of the basics, particularly the fact that there is no credible study linking autism to vaccinations, mercury, or similar substances. Check the DSM-IV TR for the latest on the diagnostic criteria for autism. The current frequency is about 1 in 168 children.

Wow - guess the Mayo Clinic info I used for my research is a bit dated! New info is coming out every day!
    2. harveyavatar
That is bullocks. The Amish dont vaccinate and they have no autists.
    3. busylizzy
@harveyavatar - there are many things the Amish don't do. Perhaps one of these other things are linked to autism.

Mayo clinic is def not the best place for peer reviewed, scholarly articles.

EB - thanks for your opinion. I was just writing one entity's stand on the subject, not my own. I do need to write another article, citing the opposition's position.

Very nice post. It's nice to read information about autism that isn't clouded by fear or rumors.

@Aoi, that frequency rate is pretty frightening, is that for autism, or any autism spectrum disorders? The article I found says the frequency is 1 in 166 for autism spectrum disorders (abstract: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18724565?ordinalpos=7&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntr...).

@annz - thanks for adding a comment. Love your avatar - is that your child? Cute, whoever it is! Happy New Year to you and your family!

    busylizzy,
I didnt find your article on autism. I did read one on AHDH, which is often due to watching too much TV (brutal transition from those alpha waves).

@harveyavatar - visit my Brains blog at brainsyourmineours.blogspot.com. It's the top article.

Read! For historical perspective on health issues, I recommend reading/seeing "Murder by injection" by Eustace Mullins.

You are morbid and getting off the beaten path! But I do welcome your input any time! Have a Happy New Year (and don't be morbid! Make that a resolution)

Actually the statement that the Amish don't have any autistics is not accurate. Due to a highly structured community and an agricultural society many mildly autistic kids are not as obvious. Early Intervention services are used by the Amish.
    1. harveyavatar
In that case, maybe the non Amish should follow the same procedures ;-)
    2. busylizzy
@aftercancer, Thanks for your input. Good to hear from you. Take care and Happy New Year!

"Morbid", yeah right. Get busy pulling your head out the sand Lizzy. How is that for a resolution?

@harveyavatar, So what is your favorite conspiracy theory?

Quite sad really... Rainman was an awesome movie though.
    1. busylizzy
I missed that movie. Because you say it was awesome I am going to bug hubby to put it on our Netflix list. Thanks for the recommendation!
