Hello everyone. I'm taking a survey and looking for some information. I'm looking for people who have back problems. Particularly Disk related issues; Herniated, slipped, compresses, ruptured, bulging etc. If you've had back problems, please let me know if you had any surgery and if it helped or not. If you didn't have surgery please say so and let me know how your back is doing now. I'm also interested in any type of home remedies that you've tried.

Much Thanks

    Greetings
I was in a car accident about 20 years ago and broke my back and was put in traction for 3 months. One day the doctor came in(I think I was on Demerol) and told me I would never walk again unless I had an operation. I asked for a second opinion and the orthopedic surgeon flipped. To make a long story short, Doctor#2 said Doctor#1 was a moron and that I should get off Demerol ASAP and get into Physiotherapy ASAP, which I did. 3.5 months after the the accident I walked out of the hospital. Doctor#2 also suggested I get a T.E.N.S machine(transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator)to help with pain management. I'm glad I took Doctor#2's advice.

    Still walking

I've had 2 diskectomies. The first disc L4 ruptured in 1985 and I lost use of my leg for a tiny bit till the operation then I was all better. The second disc I ruptured was S1 in 1998 that blew apart with pieces ending up in my nerve bundle...took several months after the operation but I have been great since.

For a blown disc there are no home remedies.

    Hey,

I fell when I was 9 or 10, playing around at my grandparents house, and didn't know I had broken my back until I was 17 and had a chiropractor do an x-ray. I just turned 25, so I've been living with different kinds of pain for like 16 years.

Come to find out I have a grade 2 Spondylolithesis of the L-4 and my Disk is bulging and creating de-generative Disk Disease. This is from an MRI report done 6 years ago. I'm looking into getting another because it has been hurting worse every time I twist or bend the wrong way.

I want to have a new surgery thats out and done by www.laserspineinstitute.com/ I'm waiting to find out if I am eligible for it.

But I am still walking, but can't run or do heavy lifting, or much bending.

I take medicine when its hard to cope with.

What kind of back problems do you have?

    thanks,
    Emily

The first disk removal I was on morphine for ten days and thats it...absolutely no pain after surgery. The second I was in immense pain for months. I was on percocets for 3 months then they put me on amitriptelyn which is an antidepressant that has a curious side effect of blocking nerve pain

For what reason are you taking this survey, just curious.

I'm mostly curious. I'm working through some back issues myself. I've opted against the surgery but I'd like to be armed with some more information. I'm comparing the results with a study by a Dr. Weinstein which came out last year.

I suffer from back problems but my dad has had 3 disks in his back removed as well as numerous other operations and he still works as a binman.

There's a very interesting book called "Mind Over Back Pain." Unfortunately, I can't recall the author's name at the moment, but it is a medical doctor, and it's quite interesting. I know a professional rock & roll drummer who had back and should pain; he claimed this book helped him enormously. Good luck!

Okay, I'll do a google search and see if I can locate it. A friend gave me a book called "Pain Free" by Pete Egoscue. I've found several techniques from that book helpful as well. Thanks a bunch for the input. I hope it will help others as well.
