Some psychologists argue it is not possible to be addicted to the Internet.

What are your thoughts? Is our BC addiction a real addiction in the sense of the clinical definition?

Read both articles.
Very superficially.
Offhand reaction: No question about it, some people have psychological problems involving Internet use. In a way, I am, too: at least to the extent that I've found myself spending more time on the 'net than I planned.
By the same token, I've got book addiction. And think addiction. And people addiction. I've spent more time than planned with all of the above. I'm biased against tacking "addiction" to the name of something that is involved with a problem.
But, there's no question that there are people with 'net issues. And, the articles addressed some of these.
About BC, to be a bit serious: I'd be concerned if- I spent time at BC to the detriment of something else - It's happened, but not (very) often
- I couldn't get discussion threads out of my mind when I'm not online
- My wife told me I had a problem with BC.

I would say that most people with addictive personalities will be addicted to something. As a doctor I can attest to the fact that almost all people are compulsive about something to varying degrees. Finding more healthful hobbies such as blogging is better than gambling, drugs, alcohol, shopping and what not in my opinion because you are socializing, you are learning something by reading, you are discussing and growing ideas and opinions, and yes that can be addicting. But just like with anything else if people keep things in balance and realize that there is a time and place for the hobby that they love to ensure that it does not eat away in to their free time, family time, or work time then it is most likely ok.
@Norski above me, I had dreams about blog catalog the other night too, and that was when I realized I needed to spend a few days away from it
Now I'm back! -
I don't know. It's not like I have sparkly metallic paint on my face and stagger the town with a brown paper bag in tow...
Not yet at least. I don't know does internet addiction lead to huffing?
I could be watching tv all day. But I prefer interacting with people and exchanging ideas instead of watching pre-made ones on the tube. Just my TC -
Guilty! I dream about blogging and BC, I even had a dream that I was reading comments and editing my templatE - www.pinayjade.com/2008/04/i-had-dream.html

I've been on BC for about a month or so. Blogging since April. And now I'm on here almost 24 hours a day, if I do fall asleep, the first thing I do when I wake is come right back on, reading blogs after blogs, discussions etc. and not much posting of anything, or updating my blogs... and I dont think I'm the only one...
