Some psychologists argue it is not possible to be addicted to the Internet.

What are your thoughts? Is our BC addiction a real addiction in the sense of the clinical definition?

Well, when I am not online, I don't break into sweats.

Not that I will admit to anyway.

It's more of a compulsion than an addiction.
  2. Norski
    Read both articles.

    Very superficially.

Offhand reaction: No question about it, some people have psychological problems involving Internet use. In a way, I am, too: at least to the extent that I've found myself spending more time on the 'net than I planned.

By the same token, I've got book addiction. And think addiction. And people addiction. I've spent more time than planned with all of the above. I'm biased against tacking "addiction" to the name of something that is involved with a problem.

But, there's no question that there are people with 'net issues. And, the articles addressed some of these.

About BC, to be a bit serious: I'd be concerned if
    • I spent time at BC to the detriment of something else - It's happened, but not (very) often
    • I couldn't get discussion threads out of my mind when I'm not online
    • My wife told me I had a problem with BC.
    Good topic.

      Well, Norski,
      Luckily for me:
I have nothing better to do
      I'm never off line
      I'm single.

I would say that I spend a lot of time online, however not to the detriment of my day to day life.

I would say that most people with addictive personalities will be addicted to something. As a doctor I can attest to the fact that almost all people are compulsive about something to varying degrees. Finding more healthful hobbies such as blogging is better than gambling, drugs, alcohol, shopping and what not in my opinion because you are socializing, you are learning something by reading, you are discussing and growing ideas and opinions, and yes that can be addicting. But just like with anything else if people keep things in balance and realize that there is a time and place for the hobby that they love to ensure that it does not eat away in to their free time, family time, or work time then it is most likely ok.

@Norski above me, I had dreams about blog catalog the other night too, and that was when I realized I needed to spend a few days away from it

    Now I'm back!

I spend several hours on-line daily. While I don't dream of BC, I do think about my future projects and posts for my blog. I don't think there is anything wrong with that though.

I am starting to get addicted to internet but it is just part of a new trend.
  7. jackpayne
I have good action from sources other than BC. But, for some reason I only stay active--overactive, really--in BC. I know not why.
  8. jackpayne
    Anyone else got the "disease?"
  9. DocNicole
I don't know. It's not like I have sparkly metallic paint on my face and stagger the town with a brown paper bag in tow...

Not yet at least. I don't know does internet addiction lead to huffing?

I could be watching tv all day. But I prefer interacting with people and exchanging ideas instead of watching pre-made ones on the tube. Just my TC

We could start a BlogCatalog group to help us get over our addiction.
  11. earthandeconomy
What would the group name be?

Self Help right next to Blogging Help
  12. earthandeconomy
I do not for certain...my personal blog post number is decreasing in direct correlation to my BC comment posts increasing. Help!

My friends and family are complaining and I have only been blogging for two months...except for the son who got me started... he talks to me by I.M. now and says that I am doing well but........should I be worried?
  14. PinayJade
Guilty! I dream about blogging and BC, I even had a dream that I was reading comments and editing my templatE - www.pinayjade.com/2008/04/i-had-dream.html

    Oh man! LOL
  15. kdawg68
Well obviously I failed in my own 12 step program. I even admitted I had a problem. I'm back on the wagon. Or is it off the wagon? And aren't I stealing an old Seinfeld joke when I say that? How scandalous.

Hi, my name is Anne and I'm a BCaholic. Oh, man! Just think ... a REHAB for BC. Ahahahaha--that would be the most fun we ever had! Like anyone would recover from anything.

And now a moment of silence...

    God, grant me the serenity...

I've been on BC for about a month or so. Blogging since April. And now I'm on here almost 24 hours a day, if I do fall asleep, the first thing I do when I wake is come right back on, reading blogs after blogs, discussions etc. and not much posting of anything, or updating my blogs... and I dont think I'm the only one...
