A good citizen is someone who cares for himself by being good to himself and for the country at the same time. He should be regular at casting vote, being honest, law-abiding, paying tax regularly, thinking of common good, thinking of the society by leaving a common place clean and following the rules. Let us discuss the above mentioned points in detail to realise the responsibility of a good citizen.

I agree with you thoroughly, as far as you presented it i.e The good citizen "should be regular at casting vote, being honest, law-abiding, paying tax regularly, thinking of common good, thinking of the society by leaving a common place clean and following the rules".

But another very important aspect of citizenship is identifying unfair or immoral laws, protesting, writing letters to Parliamentarians, involving the newspapers and radio channels etc, in order to have those laws changed. For example if you think conscription is immoral, then a concerned citizen must do everything in his/her power to have it overturned. Same with capital punishment, regressive tax laws or any other law you find morally repugnant.

Standing on the sidelines, wringing the hands in hopelessness, is the equivalent of not paying your tax or driving on the open roads while drunk.

Another thought, ramyasadasivam. Would you agree that a good citizen conserves water in a drought affected country (like Australia) and conserves petrol by using public transport?
