I have a Karen Matheson album called down river, Connie Dover is nice, we have her on a compilation.

I like Flora Purim, the Brazilian singer, also Cesaria Evoria.

as for Jazz singers, Billy Holiday is beautiful... and Astid Gilberto

they are both great. Norah Jones has a great DVD where she's playing with a real country edge. Her half sister is a sensational musician.

I once mixed a concert of North Indian and South Indian Music, I studied North Indian Light Classical with Ashok Roy, a student of Ali Akhbar Khan. I've played with lots of tabla players
    4. siralmo
      you mixed the concert??
    5. acousticguitarist
yeah, my ears are good, it was for the Australian Institute of Eastern Music, I'm not sure how I ended up doing it, but the Southies had a clay pot player, from memory I think it was Ghatam.

I was studying with Ashok, and I was asked to join his band, they ended up playing at Womadelaide a few times. It was too hard to co-ordinate because I had a young family. I was using a mad tuning B F# B F# B F natural

you can teach me some of your tabla skills

I agree about Loreena McKennitt, she's wonderful.

How about Annie Haslam from the band Renaissance? She's got a marvelous voice, too-- very haunting.

I also like Katherine Whelan from the Squirrel Nut Zippers-- sounds quite a bit like Billie Holiday.
