What backup system do you use to backup your files. I've been using Areca, which is a Java app so it runs on most systems. It's easy to setup, backup, and restore files.

I was just curious what other programs people out there use.

Here's a post that contains several approaches that can be used.
    Disaster Planning: Backups for Bloggers

I have used offline blog editors to compose my posts and publish them to my wordpress blogs. Using an offline blog editor provides a back-up of each published post on your own computer (windowslivewriter, BlogDesk). I have also subscribed to my own feeds. However, neither of those two backup methods backup the comments, categories and custom fields. Exporting the contents of my blog out periodically and saving them to disc is IMO the best approach. In addition my web hosts provide a backup program.

I've never heard of Areca and I'm interested in hearing more about it.

I should have specified that I'm backing up files off my hard drive, primarily work related.

I read a little about KaTeker. Areca does incremental backups, which uses less space. It's also a stable release (7.1), while KaTaker is still in the alpha stage.

      OOPS! I misunderstood. Sorry
I have an Acer Aspire. It has a backup program I use and then save the backups to disc.

The only stuff I back up is my academic work, and the analytics I do for my job, and that is on an external hard drive.

polybore uses Acronis True Image Home. Have a small home network with a linux box acting as NAS. Acronis is scheduled to back up the PCs on the network to the NAS.

Has saved polybore's butt a couple of times. Mrs Polybore's entire music and photograph collection resides on her PC. The photographs are irreplaceable and because the music collection is in the thousands the thought of ripping that lot back onto the PC is nightmarish.

That looks like a good backup system, but it doesn't look like they have a Linux version.

I back up using an external hard drive thingy for photos and college work.

    Also use flickr for photographs.

I don't really back up anything but my favorites and the files in my documents. As long as the files are not big files like pictures or music, video...

You don't need any program. All you have to do is buy a USB key. I just transfer the files to that every so often. I have a bit smaller one. But they probably make them hold more storage now.
