this isn't really anything to shout home about, but i just noticed my Technorati ranking has changed overnight from 1,400,000+ to 779,857.
could it be the blogcatalog influence?? :-)
and my mind-blowing authority of 3 has doubled to become a huge 6 haha

i think that because technorati has so many blogs with so few links that those first links you get will result in the biggest ranking increase.

I went to check on my ranking, but Technorati seems to be down. AGAIN! The Tech could have such huge potential, but seems to keep failing far too often. My problem with incoming links is that they keep dropping off the other end of the 180 day period...
-
I read somewhere that your Technorati ranking is not permanent, after 180 days if there's no changes to the ranking you might get down the rank again.
So make sure a continous effort is made especially if you had join the Technorati Train....don't let it die...or risk plonking the rank and starting all over again...

borzack: when you've logged in to technorati, go to the Home Page and find where it says "Your Blogs". Under your Blog name should be an "Authority" rating. Click this and on the next page your ranking should be displayed.
Hope that helps,

As far as I'm aware you're inbound links are scrapped by Technorati after 6 months, so you need to keep writing great content and getting new links in order to keep improving.
-
Awww David... THAT sucks! If Technorati really wanted to do anything like that, prpbably a better way to do it would be rotating links... your first month's links vanish on the 6th month, and the 2nd month's links are scrapped on the 7th month, etc... but to scrap them at once?
That means my blog and newyorktimes.com stand shoulder to shoulder after 6 months? lol

56k for mine, been there for a while.
Cymru reminds me so much of entering wales to goto Chepstow when I was in the Army -

and mine's Authority: 21, Rank: 238,005 - exactly the same as yours borzack and a slight improvement over the figures at the top of this thread from 9 days ago

I've been trying to install the following Alexa and Technorati plugins, but one line of code keeps blowing up. It looks so simple, but.....

I like how the widgets are only 80 pixels wide - very neat and tidy, unlike the ones you get from the Alexa web site.
Oh well, I've spent too much time on this already. Onto another weekend project.

Oh, okay, I found the rank: 29,841
And my new blog that I just added yesterday has a rank of 2,078,611. LOL...so, I'm assuming a lower rank number is better! -
I am at Authority 44 and Rank 109,519 in Technorati right now for The Online Presence Blog (OnlinePresence.BlogSailor.com/). My next aim is to get the ranking into the 50,000-75,000 range.

Blog Catalog is certainly the best blog directory I've found. Many folks from here have visited my site, and even left nice comments.
Thank you fellow bloggers!

I get some traffic from Technorati. It is difficult to predict and understand.
One of my blog prolight.blogspot.com/
got a authority jump (from near zero to 30 then back to 29). I am not sure why that happened. It could be because I joined a Blog University blog roll at that time.
Anyway I think because of that I got 107 visitors from Technorati. Now it is going down and again I an not too sure why.
One the other hand I joined the BlogCatalog buzz see
on
web.weiersmuller.org/
organized by monawea
as a result of that my authority when up to 12 (from near zero again)!
Hopefully this is going to bring some visitors in.-
My authority is very low (4-6) for all of my blogs and I have only one ranking that's under 1 million (and that only by a hair), and yet I regularly get traffic from Technorati. The really funny thing about it is that it's often on odd terms--things I've only mentioned in one post, and that should be competitive enough that I wouldn't be popping up at all. I can't quite figure out how they rank their search results.

You could join the Technorati Favorite Exchange Train

The cool thing is, we're all helping each other. A link here, a comment there, the odd stumble....it all helps.
Just wanted to say thanks to all who have helped with my current position. A lot has changed since I joined BlogCatalog and it's all for the better! -
Technorati Favorites do not seem to be of any benefit. However the link exchanges DO work and DO increase the authority. I have noted using Google Analytics as well as SiteMaster that as my ranking / authority increases I get more hits and more connections from unique sources and searches.
It IS a lot of effort and it does involve a lot of time but it pays off. I have gone from 14 to 100+ in 2 weeks. YES I would love to be higher but that is the speed of making the connections with other sites and people.
In our case we need exposure to bring Public Relations pressure to allow our son to be united with us in Albania. It is difficult but the more exposure we get the more attention the pen pushers in Government seem to pay. It worked really well in Ethiopia and we finished there well, now it is time to get him actually with us.
So anyone want to link for a good cause? If so add us and if possible a short story about Alex to your site. alex-roadtofreedom.blogspot.com
Thanks -
Hi cymrusteve, congrats to you.
Though I have a Technorati account, I've not fully leverage on its potential. Glad to pick up a few pointers here. Cheers! -
I joined the Technorati train a while back.....faved about 340 blogs and was faved by 105 fans....rank went fom 880,00 to Rank: 132,985
I also went from authority of 5 (links) to authority of (38) links...thanks to 4 memes and link exchanges.....
I haven't had time to look at google ( I think I have 0) or alexa....(where I am up in the 100s of 1,000s) -

Interesting to dig up this old discussion from May 7th, where I posted my Technorati Rank was 779,857 and my Authority a huge 6!
Today my Rank is down to 62,195 and my Authority 79.
For anyone who doesn't have a clue what I'm talking about:
Technorati Authority is the number of blogs linking to a website in the last six months. The higher the number, the more Technorati Authority the blog has.
Technorati Rank is calculated based on how far you are from the top. The blog with the hightest Technorati Authority is the #1 ranked blog. The smaller your Technorati Rank, the closer you are to the top. -
I think that's a factor for sure. I've also looked at a few of the Technorati Exchange posts online and personally contacted a few of the participants whose blogs interested me. Most were very appreciative of an "add" and added me back.
Just need to keep up the hard work. After 180 days these links will drop away unless they're renewed.
Good job yourself gabotron. Making quite a name for yourself on here... -
Shameless plug for karenlim:
Here's a link to Karen's great site - www.secretofunlimitedprosperity.com/
I must warn you though, there's so much good stuff to read you'll need to block off some time to work your way through the articles...
Enjoy!

I am waiting on bc approval for my technorati blog it's setup just for getting votes..take a peek I hope to get it approved soon makemepopular.blogspot.com

Wow, this is an old post!
Currently I have 269 fans and an authority of 178 and somehow I've made it into the Top 100 Most Favorited blogs too: technorati.com/pop/blogs/?faves=1
For the record, my rank is 27,375...
If you're unsure of the Technorati terminology:
Technorati Authority is the number of blogs linking to a website in the last six months. The higher the number, the more Technorati Authority the blog has.
Technorati Rank is calculated based on how far you are from the top. The blog with the hightest Technorati Authority is the #1 ranked blog. The smaller your Technorati Rank, the closer you are to the top.
Good luck with whatever your goals are,

Only one of mine (Aircrew Buzz) is in the top 100,000 -- ranked 70-something thousand, last time I looked. The others are drifting along.
FWIW, Aircrew Buzz has been around since early 2005, while the others are much newer. I think it just takes awhile sometimes for blogs to be "found," especially those (like mine) that inhabit a rather obscure niche.
That said, I've never been really sure just what a Technorati rank does for me or my blog(s). And I'm getting real tired of page changes in Technorati taking forever and a day to load -- so I hardly go there these days, for any reason. -
