When I first started to blog, it was discouragement, but after 6 months, things started to unblock themselves...
Time fixes everything! Keep on blogging folks, there is a light at the end of the tunnel

Two weeks and Twenty Blogs later my earnings total $1.74 through Google Adsense. I really don't get it all of the hype. Suppose I really need help with web design and ads and links. I am simply a writer and an artist. perhaps I should have been a Geek because they have a tendency to be very smart. Anyone?

also, Theresa111, I just passed by your site (I like it!)... I am, by no means, an expert but, I would suggest that you maybe consider editing the colors of your ads to help them to better blend with the rest of your site. It may/may not help, but it may be worth a try. And, maybe even throw an add or two in with your posts. Best of luck, let me know if have any questions!

Hi Theresa111,
Nice blog! Great content! One thing I would suggest, and I'm not sure you're able to on the blog platform you're using, is to break up your posts into a small teaser paragraph with a "Read the rest of this entry" link. When the user clicks on the link, the whole post will be visible.
It might just break up your home page a little and show off more of your content.
Hope that makes sense. Keep up the good work,
steve

Thank you. I have this concern: I own a wonderful Apple iMac computer. This is a PC world. I am unable to change anything. So far I have had some tech assistance from blogtoolkit.com. They only offer a certain number of templates and I chose the most effective one. I cannot place Ads, I cannot change Colors and I cannot Edit after I have published just in case my fingers accidently touch an incorrect key. You know, they do it all the time I do keep asking them to do a better job but do they listen? These hands of mine have a mind all their own. Just kidding. Okay. My trial period ends very soon. I might need another blog site Mac friendlier and if I develop a web-site do I still need a blogsite too? Is there a free one?

Concerning the Blog day of Silence, I think everyone should read this:

If John Chow posts about the site then isn't he also giving it more traffic. I wondered how many people went over the evil site just to check it out of curiosity. Oh well, what else could John have done. I would have participated but I completely missed the post LOL!!! I think it's a great idea though.

Okay here's the problem. I have a niche site -- however my keywords are targeted to my niche and not "high paying" keyword targets. I have plenty of traffic...Do I have to change my blog around to get any response from adsense or comission junction? Can a blogger expert please audit my blog, www.powerpopaholic.blogspot.com (aka take a look and tell me what's wrong here). My adsense total is a lone penny and I've been blogging for over a year now (even though it's only been monetized recently).

you have a really cool music related site...try n switch to yahooooooooo! (or maybe bidvertiser) they pay more..or, perhaps, throw in some high rpc keywords here and there (relate your posts to something with high rpc- inc., dui, dui lawyer, online degree, las vegas golf, etc)
i heard cj, where are your products??
i like your site, if you only want to make money, maybe set up a different site, too, with high rpc keywords and use it as a cash bank while you continue to build your music blog...
remember, whether we're discussing my 2 cents or 50 cent, I won't charge you a dime

First I agree with AmitMehta for the colors as your ads stick out.
Second, try to chose the words used in your articles, as for some reasons I get this ads on your page: "Forex blog" , "Retire on US Gov loophole". Forex is high paying keyword, but it is not connected to music and no one will click on it. This frase was probbly the reason for them "perfectly pleasant job", try to use frases which are always connected to music, and then you will have clicks.

My biddest problem is not being an older site for places like reviewme and ones that require you to have had a site for a certain amount of time.

I would have to say it's the limited amount of time I have. I am a mother of 3 children that I homeschool as well so I don't have as much time as I would like to spend working. I have 4 blogs that I am very serious about keeping updated and soon I will be adding a few more blogs specifically for niche affiliate marketing. I have decided that 20 hours a week work is not to much to negatively effect my 'mom duties' but is still enough time to work on my blogs if I budget my time correctly.

The biggest obstacle to making money online is one's ATTITUDE. Never in history has it been so easy to start a business with so little risk. As long as your are passionate about your blog and learning and your goal is to make money from your blog, then you will make money online.

Definitely...model people who have done it. Pay close attention to the language they use when they speak about the reasons for their success. It is incredible to see the language patterns of "successful" people and how similar they are despite their successes being in different areas. No matter how you define success listen and learn from other successful people..and then model them. The amazing thing is that we have access to as many successful people as we have time. Just visit www.youtube.com and type in the name of a person's you really admire..and many times you will find a video of them talking about their lives. If your goal is to make money online... there are not shortages of people and opportutnities to do so.

Biggest obstacle or traps?
Not managing your time effectively could be one of them. Do not get sucked into the mundane acts of mindless web surfing. -
Bottom line is quality content! If you dont have content that is worthy of some one spending time at your site then dont expect them to stick around long enough to make you any money!
The trick to quality content is either writing it yourself (about a subject that you love, for me photography) or hiring a copywriter who can string a decent sentence together!
There are many different monetisation methods out there as well, you have to find one that suits your site and your needs:
Adsense
Amazon Ads
Chikita
Affiliate schemes (CJ, Tradedoubler)
Selling link space
Selling banner space
Selling content
Selling images
The list is endless, but only certain ones will fit your site and readers/viewers. -
Mindset. This is a big area. Attraction is the key. If one can understand this law, making money online is easy. It is really easy.

I think the biggest obstacle to making money online is the loss of recognition of the fact that in order to make money, you have to have something to sell. I made some very good money five years ago or so selling a product online; I now work for a company that is highly successful in marketing the services of others online. But in both case, the starting point was something to offer visitors and the questions were things like, "How can I get this product in front of the right people?" and "How can I be more attractive than other companies offering similar services?" When the effort is built around "How can I make money?" it overlooks the one absolutely inflexible point in the sales game--you have to have something to sell. Ad space is available in literally millions of places at varying rates and varying traffic levels--it's not really a product unless you have something special to offer. But I don't think the "trick" is finding the something special that will drive ad revenue--I think it's finding what you have to offer that's of value without the presumption that you're going to make money online with it, and then figure out from the nature of the product or information what the best way to market it might be.

I know that there are surely a lot of obstacles that you guys are having trying to make money online. The thing that you need to keep in mind though is this. Try to prioritize what you really need to do to be ABLE to make money online. What I'm trying to say is that, to be successful at what you're doing you need to have goals like getting enough visitors, writing good search-optimized articles, and etc.
If you take a look at my site it's only less than 100 days old. But do I have a lot of advertisements and money making articles? No. My goal for now is to get loyal visitors because I know that it's the best thing I can do for now to make money online for the future. My alexa ranking has already improved by over 2 MILLION in just a few weeks. If you just plan out your priorities and goals in what you do in your blog, you will have a better chance of succeeding with your blog.
