I am concentrating on my BRAINS blog, writing about various disorders. Here's the link to my essay on Bipolar Disorder: brainsyoursmineours.blogspot.com/2008/12/bipolar-disorder-medications.html#.... If there is anything you want me to research and write about, please tell me.

For Bipolar Disorder, it is important to distinguish between Bipolar I and Bipolar II, plus cyclothymic disorder. The first of the three is what people think of as "bipolar", and is treatable. Lithium is the gold standard these days, though newer meds like aripriprazole (Abilify) show some benefit as well. Combo therapy is needed for some patients.

Cycling is more typical in teenagers and will later on go into type I or II, though a professional can usually accurately predict which it will be. I am bi-polar type I and my teenage daughter is also bi-polar, currently cycling but heading towards being type II.
