In my view, people have had enough being pounded by websites that focus on "SEO", "Increasing Blog Traffic", "Making Quick Money" and "Other Technology" everywhere they look around in the blogosphere.

    My 2 Cents.

My best advice is to build a promotion plan and cover all the "elementary" bases step-by-step. I have been astonished to find that there are bloggers who have joined every social network there is but they have not attended to these basics so I'm putting them forward to you.

    (1) Patience: Promoting your blog will be more effective if you regularly post high quality, original content posts to your blog. Your blog is new. You have only 8 articles. It can take a minimum of 20-25 posts before you build any kind of traffic. The search engines can take 4-6 weeks or more to add any new sites.

    (2) Pillar posts: Every blog has a niche and the key words that describe that niche are what others type into search engines to find your blog posts. Pillar posts are longer posts that require research. They outline the expertise of the writer around a specific topic and are of timeless value to your readers.

A good tip from the readability, value and SEO standpoints is to make sure that in the pillar or concept articles that the author includes plenty of links to authoritative and popular external resources. Certain subjects normally contain certain sub sets of subjects. By covering the material comprehensively you give yourself a good article, and will rank better. Here are references that will help you with this.

    (3) Register with search engines: Find Technorati www.technorati.com/ on the web. Register and create an account, claim your blog(s), tag them, create a watchlist, get a favorites button for your blog and register your favorite blogs. You will find that the site has excellent instructions to help you work through all the steps.

It is said that Google's directory comes straight from the DMOZ Directory dmoz.org/about.html so look into getting your blog site listed in it. The DMOZ, commonly known as the Open Directory Project has strict guidelines as to who is listed. Submission info can be found http://dmoz.org/add.html.

"If your site has been accepted into the Open Directory, it may take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months for your site to be listed on partner sites which use the Open Directory data, such as AOL Search, Google, Netscape Search, Yahoo Search, and hundreds of other sites. We make updates of the data available weekly, but each partner has their own update schedule."

You should *not* submit your site to Google, Yahoo, and MSN more than once every 30 days.

Although Google says that manually submitting your pages to their index is unnecessary, they have an interface for you to do so. But don't be surprised if it takes weeks for Google to acknowledge your site's existence. www.google.com/addurl/

MSN will seldom visit a website unless invited by submission. beta.search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx
Yahoo search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html frequents sites more than MSN but less than Google but will dramatically increase visits after submission.

    (4) Commenting: Promoting your blog will be more effective if you invest time and energy into leaving meaningful comments on other blogs, in forums and on websites related to your blogging topics. If you do not make this effort then do not expect traffic.

Those were some great tips. I'm printing these out and posting them in my office! I'm new to the blogging thing and finally got mine working, but there is so much more to be done. Thank you.

Try engaging in meaningful dialog of the boards, so that people get interested in who you are, click on your avatar and then even go to your blogs. Having an avatar would help. Begging won't.

I see you have exactly eight posts on your blog. Be patient.

I also see one of your posts offers advice on how to get traffic. Given the thread here, you might be suffering from a credibility gap.

    Timethief has it exactly right.

It is very easy to be seduced by all the "blog marketers" saying that they got 4 gazillion pageviews, lost 90 pounds and quit smoking 12 seconds after signing up for www.myfaceblogtwitterdigg.com

Simple fact is that although some will see return faster than others, the short term thinkers will be gone in just about that short term.

Work on your posts, quality is king in any circumstance, and all the marketing in the world won't do you much good if your site doesn't deliver when the visitors get there.

People make the misstake of placing the weight wrong when they hear Social Marketing... Its SOCIAL first.. not Marketing, and being social means participating. You can't stand in the corner at a party and yell, you have to get in the middle and talk.

Social interaction builds trust, trust builds return business, and return business build references.

Good luck, stick with it and im sure that you will grow.

Go around and leave comments on other people's blogs. Usually bloggers love it when strangers read their blogs and tell their feelings. A good way to get more traffic!
