Topics: blogcatalog, blogcatalog community, blogger, blogger advocates
BlogCatalog is looking for some Blogger Advocates (or whatever other great name we can think of for the position). The purpose of these advocates would be to promote the work of BlogCatalog bloggers on the BlogCatalog blog. This could be done through highlight posts that describe a BC blogger and his/her blog, or through posts discussing a certain topic which then refer readers to members’ posts about that topic or a related topic. The main goal here is to promote the writing of BC members and send more traffic to their blogs.
We have come up with a list of 10 topic categories for advocates:
1. Family
2. Arts & Entertainment
3. Sports
4. Politics
5. News (Current Events)
6. Business
7. Science & Technology
8. Health & Fitness
9. Food & Drink
10. Lifestyle
What are the benefits of becoming a Community Advocate?
1.Increased exposure. Your posts will include a byline with either a headshot or your avatar, a link to your blog(s), a link to your BC profile, and a link to your twitter account.
2.The posts you write will not only appear on the BlogCatalog blog, but will also be rotated onto the BC homepage. The links and the positioning of your work on the BC homepage are a great way to gain more visibility in the community and on the web, and we hope will end up leading to more traffic for your own blog.
3.A professional relationship with BlogCatalog can help validate bloggers trying to make names for themselves or trying to make bigger names for themselves. Making connections with members of the BlogCatalog team and other social media professionals we work with can help strengthen your position in the world of blogging/social media.
4.Opportunities such as the chance to attend blogging conferences and other relevant social media events.
If you are interested in becoming a BC Blogger Advocate, please email jason at blogcatalog.com to let us know. In the email please include your BC username and the category for which you would like to be an advocate.
Note: If you already sent an email about becoming a category editor, we have received them. This discussion is referring to the same position; we have just decided to call it something else. If we have not contacted you personally about your email, please be patient. We have received a large number of emails and are working our way through them. There is no need to send another email if you previously sent one.

send it to me jason at blogcatalog.com

I could occasionally write about science and technology, like twice a month perhaps, but not enough to take an editor/advocate position.
-
I previously sent in an email based on the assumption there would be a blogging tips category, but I see that there is no such a category in the list above. In fact there are no "blogging " categories at all.
I also note there isn't a category for for personal development, personal growth, relationships, self improvement, or self help. These would be my second choices provided no blogging categories are going to be featured.
Could you please clarify what the Lifestyle category (10 above) pertains to in terms of scope and range?

At present the blog of those who are community donors are rotated on the front (home) page of BC. Will this be changing?-
There will be a page separate from this one for blogging tips and information. Also we are not opposed to having additional categories on the community page; so if you have a suggestion, please let me know.
Ha, we put lifestyle on there because when we got to the last one I asked Tony what we could put there that pretty much encompasses everything we may have left out and Lifestyle seemed to fit the bill.
Like I said though, we're totally open to other categories and I think Personal Development would be one worth adding to the list. -

Thanks for the reply. That's my first area of interest and where my expertise lies. Unless you say otherwise I will not send in another email as Angie has already acknowledged receipt of mine ( re: blogging tips & information & online relationships) in the earlier thread.
I would like to see personal development, personal growth, relationships, self improvement and self help added to the categories. That's the range my second area of interest is but I did not include anything about that in the email I sent in response to the earlier thread. Please let me know if I have to email again to say that.
I would also like to see Environment (conscious living, green living), Nature & Outdoor Recreation, Photography, and Travel added as categories too.

Would rather like to get involved with this. Only problem is can't decide on a category. Ponder ponder.
Do you envisage a place for category editors that "float" between categories?-
I see no reason why we wouldn't allow advocates to post in more than one category. the idea is simply to create a team that will promote the good work done by bloggers on BC. I think the blog has been underutilized in this capacity.
If you want to help share the work of BC bloggers, then please let us know. Don't worry about fitting into a specific category.

You might consider a writing/publishing category. You do have more than 8,000 blogs listed in that category...

I would be interested in this, but honestly don't have a clue what category I would be interested in.
-
that seems to be what a lot of people have said and we are much more concerned with developing a group of people interested in promoting the work of good bloggers on BC and less concerned with having people for a specific category. If you are interested, let us know and if you want to spotlight bloggers and topics from more than one category, that's fine with us.

Just so you all know, I appreciate everyone's interest in this and have received a ton of new emails. As I'd like to respond to each of you personally rather than send out a mass email, please be patient and know that I am going to do my best to get back to you all ASAP. My goal is to have contacted everyone who sent an email by next Tuesday or Wednesday.
Thanks again!

Shares and stocks would definitely fall under business. Business news, business developments...anything pertaining to the world of business. For example news.google.com/news?pz=1&topic=b&ict=ln

Maybe he got it for what's stated in the OP of the first thread posted on this topic.
" As of now, we are asking for 5 volunteer editors to get things going.
FYI, we are discussing ways to compensate the editors in the future. At this point, we have been discussing options such as a simple pay-per-post system or a system that would take into account statistics such as: traffic, bounce rate, # of comments, etc. We may do a combo of the 2 where editors would be piad per post, but then have extra incentive-based pay or prizes based on the stats I mentioned.
In any case, right now we are looking for volunteer editors and hope community members will be interested as we'd strongly prefer to have these editors come from within BC rather than recruiting bloggers from outside the community."

That being said I think that may have changed.

What About Blogging Category? (blog Tips/resources?)
I will love to be here.
I think this is mandatory and most important -
IMO, ideally, every category/subcategory in the directory should have an editor (I still like 'editor' better than 'advocate') whose task is to sift through the sheer mass of blogs and highlight the best blogs and posts, sort of like dmoz.org was meant to be once upon a time. Is that a possible future development that you guys at BC are maybe thinking of?

@Jaybetee
G'day. I think the concept of BC members acting as volunteer BC Editors or Advocates is an interesting one. However, I have decided that my health is too frequently in a state of flux to volunteer to contribute to BC by volunteering. Please remove my email application from the mix. Thanks, in advance. -
How do you get a blogcatalog email? Like yourname at blogcatalog.com

I am already doing it with the Change The World Thread & Group. Perhaps this is a jumpstart to the program. I will send an email. Thanks.
